Interl Core i7 Processor, you speak of combat prowress and say Vaino M. was the greatest. I don't think so. Pier Gerlofs Donia was the greatest warrior. He was 7 feet 5 but he was strong enough to wield a sword 7 feet long, Vaino could not do such feats. Donia also carried a 1000 pound horse above his shoulders, that makes him the strongest man ever even stronger then Angus McAskill.

Yes, if you trust legends from hundreds of years ago.

Seriously, the only thing we can say for sure about Donia is that his size and strength were highly excaggerated. Thats what happens with legends. For all we know he could have been 6'4 which is those days would have been massive. We'll never know wether the sword is legit or not. It's SAID to have been his sword.

The same goes for McAskill, even though he was much more recent. I doubt he was 7'10 as is claimed and the stories of his feats of strenght are clearly blown out of proportion.

We'll never know for sure, especially about Donia, so there's really no use in claiming he was the strongest man ever or that he was 7'5. There just isn't enough info, only legends.

Despite not being as tall as some of the more epic giantesses of history, I'd bet my house that Katja Van Dyke had biceps harder than a bulls forehead.

Siegfried
Trintje Keeve (Dutch Giantess) although she died very young, was probably very strong. My mate Boxer had some ancient book from some library, and there was mention of another Dutch Giantess who could supposedly lift more than several men. This woman was alive centuries earlier than Keever, as best as I recall.
SomePerson said on 12/Feb/09
I don't get why you want to know about the strongest gians or giantesses.

What about strongest giantesses. Anyone got any suggestions???.

A.Nonny Mouse. This is a forum about giants, however some giants have also been
strongmen, wrestlers and soldiers. Therefore discussions on such are indeed pertinent.
aram x said on 9/Feb/09
Well I am guessing Vaino did weigh in the 400 lb range when he was healthy. Even Wadlow was over 400 lb when he reached over 8 feet. Surprisingly Wadlow's weight (according to medical records), also dropped considerably near his death and his peak weight of nearly 500 lb was actually recorded when he was 'only' 8,9".
Anonymous said on 9/Feb/09
As I remember reading, Vaino was about 400 lbs when he reached 8 feet, but he started having physical problems and weighed less than 400 the last years of his life.

As Chaz said below, in the early stages of acromegalic gigantism, it is quite common to be extremely strong. There are many tales of young giants with enormous strength equal to MacAskill or Myllyrinne. e.g., John Carroll(at the age of 22) lifted a car that had fallen on him. Five years later he was confined to a wheelchair. The disease overwhelms in its later stages so you are very weak, when a few years earlier you were King Kong.
Chaz said on 8/Feb/09
It seems quite common for giants to be very strong as young men,but if they are acromegalic all that HGH takes it's toll, and they become very weak, even wadlow was very strong as a boy.
aram x said on 7/Feb/09
Then how much did Mylliyrinne weigh at his peak height if he was already over 400 lbs by the time he was 'only' 7,4"? Maybe he seemed down as he grew because I've heard his weight at his peak height wasn't much heavier than the weight you gave.
A. Nonny Mouse said on 7/Feb/09
Here we go again. What is this schoolboyish obsession with strength? This a forum about giants, not strong men or wrestlers. "I bet my giant could whip your giant".
For heaven's sake!

Lovelace Love an Irishman, who for the purists was not really a giant by height, though they say about 6'8 and 560 to 600 pounds had great strength.
He had the strength of several men according to tradition.
mytg8 said on 6/Feb/09
According to Guinness at the age of 22 Myllyrinne was 7-3 1/2, 434 pounds, compared to MacAskill's most likely height of 7-4, 425 pounds. I'd bet that Vaino was just as strong as Guinness' "strongest man ever to live".

Interl Core i7 Processor: Good list but there are a few omissions. You must include (in no particular order) such incredibly strong individuals as Ted Evans, Louis Moilanen, George Auger and, although he certainly wasn't the tallest giant, Martin van Buren Bates. Bates, after all, was an officer in the American Civil War. Following the war, he even hunted down and killed the eight men who murdered his brother. How's THAT for a warrior?

Out of all the giants of history, I believe the Myllyrinne would have made the greatest warrior. I think it would go something like this, in order of combat prowess:

1. Myllyrinne
2. Machnow
3. McAskill
4. Gonzalez
5. Bao
6. Wadlow (He might be a little unstable but I gotta give him the maddest of props for his epic reach)
7. Swan (She gets bonus points. Due to their semi-magical nature, giants are bound by the old world code which dictates that men are forever forbidden from striking women)
8. Bol (Mad reaching skills)
9. Lanier #1
10. Lanier #2 (I can't seperate them, but everyone loves warrior twins)

Is there any that I'm missing?
Tommy said on 4/Feb/09

The record books could open up more categories or perhaps we could have regional record books. This woman Zainab Bibi could be Greater Manchester's
tallest woman. There again I could be the tallest, fattest bloke down our street with the longest beard and biggest feet. I remember some time ago when
someone wanted a celeb to open an autumn fayre, and were having difficulty finding someone who was available that day. Graham from the advice centre said we could get some celebs Uncle or next door neighbour. In the end they got some Ice Hockey player and he was a pretty big big guy.

This has something to do with giants because Lappland has many giant tales.

I think Johnny C has responded eloquently enough concerning his site. I understand why some people might be frustrated at expending their time and energy for someone else to make profit but nothing is preventing them from doing the same thing, although I doubt it will be to his level of 'scholarship'. I'm pleased if I've sent him info in the past, or if anything that I post magically gets put up on his site, because at least it is archived properly, as comparative data, in a way that I don't have the time or the inclination for.

What has made me cross, and effectively stopped me from sharing the majority of my finds and my archive, is rude and crude behaviour, I hope Johnny C has more patience than I could show...

Highman: To summarise the point to you (in order to help put this matter to rest, so that we can all return to topic)... It may seem absurd to you when I effectively play down the volume of links posted to this message board (mask, in particular, is an absolute star!), but the average three-per-week (340 since 1/Dec/06) of links alerting us to tall folks I haven't listed isn't that much, when you consider my project has a few thousand entries (including 1,350 tall women under 7 ft - we very rarely go there in this message board). Honestly, my friend (I hope?), you have no idea exactly how huge my project is (I even bought a new computer last year, as I needed more memory storage capacity), how big the project was before I even discovered this message board, how much material I have in reserve for future publication, and relatively how little of it came from this message board.

To most people, the links and info. posted here seems like masses (even though it all disappears every month or so - unless it's archived by someone, somehow....), but if you've been compiling the most comprehensive body of work ever published on the subject of the tallest people, this message board (fascinating though it is, and extremely well maintained by Editor Rob) brings up only a small proportion of the data I'm publishing.

When asserting as absurd my statistics regarding data source percentages, consider, for instance, the proportion of my project that is devoted to women under 7 ft tall - a category of tall people rarely discussed in this message board (the same is true of much of my tall actors category). The women under 7 ft tall category accounts for some 70% of photographs in my archives, of which very few (only one or two per entry) have been posted in my Google blogs.

We thought this was a collaborative site that you were assembling with our postings on THIS SITE.

I personally think Editor Rob should ban you from posting or planting your links on this site in the future as it is clear you have acted in your own self-interest at the detriment of this Board. Again, if you had integrity you wouldn't have had to respond with such a lengthy response and you would have been forthright about your announcement prior to me calling you on it.

My own interest in the subject of Tall People goes back to when I first received
a copy of "Guinness Book of Records" one Christmas during the 1960'S. That being said I was always interested in Giants and Strongmen etc. Steve "Hercules"
Reeves was one of my first heroes. (okay he was not a giant-just a big bloke)
I have always admired tall girls-ever since I can remember-still do. Anyway cutting to the chase-I discovered this website by pure accident whilst doing some research-glad I did. Johnny has done a fantastic job-the effort and time invested has been terrific. Congratulations are in order. I myself for many years collated hand written files on this subject and have corresponded with
Guinness Book of Records-Libraries-Magazines and Newspapers etc-even considered
writing a book as there are few if any really good ones on this subject. I have discovered there are many other real authorities who visit here-who know their subject and no doubt some have made worthy contributions to this site. But Johnny C has compiled the best and so far as I know the finest and most comprehensive work on this subject. Again congratulations are in order.
THANK YOU.

Although I asserted here yesterday that I had given my final word on the matter of my tallest people project, the ill-feeling posted toward me here is proving sufficiently distracting for me that I feel compelled to put closure on the matter with a statement clarifying the position. With the exception of dealings with a few trouble-causers in 2007 (subsequently Banned from participating here), my relationship with contributors to this message board has always been amiable and respectful, and I wish that situation to continue.

The subject of the tallest people has always held universal fascination, and my own interest became a project initiated in the 1990s as a personal hobby, before publication in 2006 in the form of a series of free Google blogs (eventually, the series subcategorised into some 800 blogs).

My decision to publish was driven by the frustration that all other tall people listings cite established but often exaggerated height claims, normally with misspellings, dead hyperlinks, non-inclusion of known tall people, limited photographic accompaniment, and lack of or erroneous essential biographical data (full name, place of birth, date of birth/death, aliases and alternative spellings, hyperlinks, references in literature).

Every one of the thousands of entries published in my project is well researched and heights are given evidence-based objectivity (notes: (i) in providing both metric and Imperial units of length, my data is universally understood; and (ii) I credit heights as unconfirmed in cases inconclusive to myself). The aim of the project is the attainment of true and full facts in compiling the most comprehensive body of work ever published on the subject.

Hyperlinks posted in the CelebHeights Robert Wadlow message board have provided a basis for investigation of about 20% of the material published in my project. However, much more than using this message board as a source of material for my project, since 2006 I have contributed fully to discussion and debate, I have posted hyperlinks and presented on-topic data, and links posted in my project have alerted new people to the existence of this message board.

Given that many people are introduced to this message board via links posted in my project, I feel it important to dispel certain misunderstandings: (i) I have no editorial involvement with this message board; and (ii) my published work is independent of CelebHeights

how could ANYONE look at Naseer Soomro and think that Stadnyk is anywhere near his height, much less 7 inches taller....the guy is a towering figure ! that video xei posted shows him being like 2 feet taller than the ordinary men he's with....other than the photos of Stadnyk with his 5 foot tall mom, we've never seen such a difference with him.

Go to the Wessels site.....there's photos of Stadnyk with Georg Wessels, and photos of the same Georg Wessels with Igor, Sandy Allen, and other giants who have confirmed heights. You'll see PROOF POSITIVE that Igor is nowhere near 8 feet tall

Don't know what the result of their one-on-one match was, though Andre did beat Haystacks in a tag-team match in New-Zealand 1980. He teamed up with the magnificent Zulu agains Haystacks (who was called The Mighty Goliath there) and Ripper Collins.

The fact is Johnny C assembled data, pictures and vids that we all posted onto his "site" only to make that a pay per view site. Then for those of us who questioned him, he emailed us free administrator password accounts. I don't think that is very credible. I thought what made this board unique was a free and uninhibited exchange of pictures and data. Now Johnny C has taken our efforts that we clearly contributed to his site and made it for his own profit.

Thanks for reminding me about Haystacks supposedly having brothers who were giants. I remember hearing that, and wondered at the time how big were they.
like Conal Cochrane stated about the grandfather's height, it was balyhoo about the brothers too. Though as Chaz has mentioned Haystacks got his height from somewhere. So you would think there would be other tall individuals in his line,
as he was not an acromegalic.

Haystacks didn't really have gigantic brothers like he says in an interview, it's just a part of his wrestling character's background. They had made up a whole history for the "Giant Haystacks" -character, including a gigantic family. The 7'4 grandfather might have been a part of this tale, I don't know.

I too see Haystacks as 6'8 max in his prime. That's a rare, but not a growth decease -like height. Haystacks wasn't really a giant, he was just a very very large man.
A. Nonny Mouse said on 12/Jan/09
Chaz, I'm not sure about that sibling question. I don't know what medical opinion was at the time, but I'd say both the Hugo (Ugo) brothers look like men with over-active pituitaries
Conal Cochrane said on 12/Jan/09
Quite a number of Giants hailed from the Emerald Isle to be sure, and whilst Giant Haystacks may have had an Irish Grandfather (doubt he was Seven Four)
that was probably balyhoo. Mind I did hear that the man in question was a Blacksmith and a man of enormous height, though never have come across any proof of his height.
Chaz said on 11/Jan/09
Haystacks must have got he's height from somewhere, becuase he had no Ilness, unlike a lot of these other one's,if they are a Acromegalic giant there is no chance they would have a tall sibling, there is a very rear case of twins I saw, one add Acromealy and was 6'8'' and add all the large chin nose forhead and looked nothing like he's bro anymore who was only 5'10''.they were only 18 and the Dr said if he add not had treatment he would have been over 7'6''

ssx said on 10/Jan/09
I agree with Mask. If Zhang could stand straight, he'd be 8'2" or so. Others have gotten credit in the past: Rogan, Patterson etc. Zhang should get the same treatment. No doubt he is the worlds tallest, with video proof to top it off!

Thanks for the great links Mask. Your research skills are most impressive! IMO, Carmel's being at or a little over 7'0" makes sense.

There may be a genetic component to Carmel's height, but it seems that this claim is sometimes used as an excuse to explain the height of a guy when the cause is clearly a pituitary tumor (who wants to admit this?). There's usually reference to a "grandfather" or "great grandfather" of extraordinary height, but he's conveniently long since passed away (e.g., the claim that Andre the Giant's grandfather was 7'8" when there is no proof of this. Andre's the poster boy for pituitary tumor gigantism and acromegaly).

Sandy held title of World's Tallest Woman for most of the period since 1976-though she did loose her Crown ever so briefly more than once. Chinese giantess
Zeng Jinlian took the title briefly-however another Chinese giantess Hu Chung
Rhang (Fu Qun Zhang) at 7 ft 7. 85 (1961-1979) Who I believe weighed about 250
pounds was also acknowledged as World's Tallest Woman-thus deposing Sandy very briefly. Yet another giantess "Mulia" was listed for a time as world's Tallest Woman one year-her height being listed at 7 ft 7. 75- though in her casr I believe they recalculated her height and I think she was found to be just below
7 ft 7. The next year Sandy was reinstated. For the best part of thirty years Sandy was Tallest Woman and as we know Zainab Bibi never held that distiction
despite that story.

Nice documentary, too bad it's in a language that I don't understand. The first part is pretty funny. We first get to see Robert Wadlow, who's legitimately at the upper end of 8 foot and looks it. Then we get to see Eddie Carmel, who claimed 8'10. LOL, he doesn't even look to be within 2 feet of Robert Wadlow. This guy isn't even 7'6 as Guinness claimed he might be. In most scenes he's only a head taller than the average persons around him. And in the scenes where he does tower over people, you can tell those people are not very tall.
I know he had severe curvature of the spine during the end of his life, but even a 7 footer towers over people. I'll try to cap some of the scenes from the movie somewhere this week.

In that pic of him with his parents Eddie Carmel looks enormous. Could it have been doctored?

I do believe you are correct in assuming Tiliya was a eunuchoidal giantess. I know she was listed at 7 ft 5 in GBR-though I do wonder was she officially measured. For some time-I have tried to find a picture of her without success.
It would be excellent if the esteemed Mask or any of us could uncover one.
The woman who is listed as India's tallest woman Svetlana Singh-as you will know was supposed to be 7 ft 2 though turned to be 6 ft 8 and a half. However Gitika Srivastava originally from India-who lives in America is taller at a height of 6 ft 11.

Here is a picture of the Van Droysen Sisters. Otherwise Annie Haase and Dora Helms. They are listed at 7 ft 2 and 6 ft 9 (unconfirmed heights) on this site. In this photo I would say the difference appears to me like 8 inches or so. One author says there was a foot difference. They were sometimes billed at 8 ft 4 and 7 ft 4, which we know is an exaggerastion. At one time GBR indicated that the taller one Katja Van Dyke "Annie Haase" was not more than 6 ft 11. However it appears they had confused her with Dora. Though these women had so many different aliases and variations of spelling their names. Annie as well as being called Katja-was sometimes called Elsa. Dora was sometimes called Hilda or Charlotte. As well as Van Droysen it was somes Dorryson or Van Dorryson.
Van Dyke was sometimes Van Dijk or other variations. Kayja was Katya or Kaaje.
Very confusing. Both of these women were said to have weighed around 33 stone or 462 pounds.

Grady Patterson is still something else... His fingers look very long like Wadlows and Rogan... Yet his face looks horribly disfigured (no wonder why he liked the shelter of his church!).

Did you ever find Dr. Tremont?? He died in 1968 right?? May be hard to find.

However, John Carroll is still even more of an enigma.... But kudos to Johnny C for unearthing Grady Patterson... this Board really is the go to source for this kind of stuff....I think Guinness with Stadnyk has really come unhinged....Xi Shun should ask for a measurement face to face with Leonid....

Johnny C time to update your site with some new photos about Vladimir Tkachenko while attending a celebration in June 18th 2007 let me tell you that the second pic from the bottom in the first column portrays him with the host and his son Igor who is so much shorter than him standing at "only" 6'7".
A curiosity: Vladimir inherited his tallness from his great grandfather!Like me!
In fact I'm about 6'1" and the only person in my family standing above 6'0" was my great grandfather on my mother's side he stood about 6'3"!

Big Show, the difference between Smits and those other guys is that he has never been listed at anything under 7'4" at any point during his pro or college career. Some of those others guys' heights fluctuate based on what shoes they are wearing during their measurements and for some, they've grown (which is rumored for Yao). Smits was always a solid 4" taller than Shaq and was 3" shorter than Muresan/Bol. I'm not 100% certain on his height, but I'm arguably his biggest fan and have tons of literature, basketball cards, articles, etc on him. I live and work near where he resides and hope to run into him one day and I'll be sure to ask his barefoot height when I see him.

At 7footersplus website, Fernando Romay is billed as 6ft 11.386in But I´m sure he is 7footer I have sawn him on tv many times and he seems like 7,3 or more,
Sometimes a person seemms like taller or shorter than he or she in in a photo, because s/he is appearing between very short or very tall people.
Leonid seems like short because you have sawn him in a photo with tall people

Near by me is dvd/game shop and i see Satyricon there but i didt buy it. It´s still there but i hear in this board that it´s only small part. It cost about 20€/28$.

I wouldn't bother buying it. A few months ago I downloaded it and I couldn't spot Nashnush in it. I hadn't watch the movie in it's entirely but only fast forwarded it, but I couldn't spot any extremely tall person in it. He's suppose to appear during a scene on a barge. There are several barge scenes in the movie, but I couldn't spot him anywhere. If he's in the movie it's a really short appearance (maybe only a few seconds).

Big Show, not all NBA'ers are measured in shoes, particularly the tall ones.

Where did I quote that all NBA'ere are measured in shoes. I said most of them are. So basketball heights are by no means evidence unless we know for certain that basketball players were measured barefoot. Smits has always been referred to in the Netherlands as being 224 cm tall (which is equal to 7'4 1/5), but seeing as some basketball players get listed with there shoes on and some don't how do we know for sure that Smits height is a barefoot listing. Is there any documentation that will prove this? Yao Ming is listed as 7'6 by the NBA, yet he was listed as 225cm (7'4.5) during the 2004 Olympics and in one pic he was shorter than 7'6 Shawn Bradley.
andrew the giant said on 9/Oct/07
Wow, Sidibe has some pretty limited movement. Granted he's quite tall, but I can't see him being quick enough for the NBA.
Has anyone found the scene in "Satyricon" with Nashnush? I still can't believe he's 8 feet based on the picture we've seen.
LV said on 8/Oct/07
Wow, that kid is a MAJOR project. He doesn't even know how to dribble or dunk!

Big Show, not all NBA'ers are measured in shoes, particularly the tall ones. They have the option of being listed as their barefoot height and most do (Ming, Bradley, Bol, Muresan, etc). I've seen Smits referred to as 7'4 1/4" on a Dutch website a long time ago. I don't buy 7'3" barefoot for him. Keep in mind I've seen nearly every pro game Smits played in. Several in person.

Johnny C: You are killing me with Musutuman, Tibetan Giant and Uppal all at 7-11 with zero evidence to support any of them. I just don't buy any of them at that height....
Highman said on 8/Oct/07
Big Guy: There is no evidence to really support Uppal being an 8 footer. I have looked at many pictures but they are horrible angles. There is the video made before he went to surger and he was standing next to a car. If we can get the cars height then maybe that could suggest his height. No one has gotten that car's height.

At least Finnish version of Guinness book says that there is no evidence for Stadnyk be Tallest man. They still say that offically Xi shun is tallest. Sorry Stadnyk:)

Fingleton is tall but he is not gigantic. He´s quite skinny and his hands r not very big. So he might be just lucky because it´s quite rear in those heights. Hope
to see him acting in some movies.
Big Guy said on 8/Oct/07
While I realize it is a moot point now, I believe that Vikas Uppal was a legit 8 footer. In the photos and videos I have seen he was taller then any of the
current giants we talk about. It's a shame there was no public measurement of
him. Also, no matter how many videos, pictures, stories, etc. I see. There is/was no one close to Wadlow. He was in a seperate class in my opinion.
His size was staggering. I believe he could have passed 9 FEET. That is hard
to believe.
Big Guy said on 8/Oct/07
I saw the TLC shows last night. Stadnik is a very interesting case. I have seen
photos of him where he looked absolutly huge and then photo's of him where he
looked 7'5"-7'6". In the show last night Dr. Besser was stated as being 6'4".
He was standing next to Leonard and based on that Leonard could be 7'6" at best. Also saw poor Yao Defen. She was measured at 7'8" on the show. This poor
woman is a mess. She can't stand without support, her face is very distorted,
she has all kinds of medical issues. So sad. Once again, while I do not know
that much about him, Fingleton at 7'7"+, has to be the healthiest giant I have
every seen. He looks fine, walks fine, just appears perfectly normal only king
size. If that is so, he sure is one lucky guy.
Highman said on 8/Oct/07
Saw the TLC shows last night. The Yao Defen was measured lying down at only 7-8.... I sure she is today taller than Sandy Allen is today but she is no 8 footer, that's for sure. She is in a very sorry situation. However I think it was prudent for the Chinese Doctors to not operate if they didn't feel secure with her ability to survive.... Unlike Uppal.

I still cannot believe that Stadnyk was given a physical and Dr. Bessers didn't measure him for Height, limbs, fingers, foot size, etc. In another TLC program Dave Rassmussen was given a physical for Marphan's Syndrome and the physician measured him and his extremeties.... yet Besser didn't measure Stadnyk?!??

Also, if I see one more show with him toting around that hoaky Certificate of a measurement. I wish Guinness would get it right..... they did show a picture of Zhang in the Yao Defen program.....but no mention of his name....

Because I once saw him, it is a small ambition of mine to find out when "Jan Van Albert" died. Are there any Netherlands folk amongst us who might know how to discover the date? I'm assuming he died in his own country.

Rik Smits was listed by the NBA as 7'4 and we all know they measure most of their athletes with their shoes on. I think Rik Smits is 7'3 barefeet. Rob Bruintjes is not the second tallest Dutchman, unless Robert Zwaan has passed away. In the 90's Robert Zwaan was the tallest Dutchman according to Guinness with a height of 223 cm (7'3.8). To my knowledge Rob Bruintjes has never been credited with the title "tallest Dutch person". Nowadays the Dutch edition of Guinness doesn't list the tallest person from The Netherlands anymore, but according to KLM, which is a organisation for tall people, the tallest Dutchman is 7'6.5 and the tallest member of KLM is 7'3.8 (he's the guy on the pic with Rob Bruintjes. He doesn't like publicity so I believe these pics are one of the few that there are of him). Here's another pic of him:
