Recently watched Shawshank for the zillionth time and Mr. Freeman looked spot-on this (peak) listing, based on comparisons with the rest of the cast. He was 56-57 then, so maybe had dropped a tiny fraction and peak was closer to 6'2.5". P.S. Happy birthday to one of my favorite actors. Did not realize it till I checked on his age at Wiki.

I’m glad to see that Morgan Freeman is starring in my film tonight, which is Johnny Handsome, which is debuting on the Legend/Horror channel. It’s from 1989, and I expected it to be fairly dated by looking at Lance Henriksen, who still had brown hair back then.

Now one thing I thought rather out of character for Morgan is to call the deformed Mickey Rourke ‘an ugly son of a bitch’. I can’t imagine him being like that in real life. Having recently watched him in The Shawshank Redemption, I found it amusing that he could look so much shorter than his co-star, who is Tim Robbins, a VERY tall guy.

I’m giving the beautifully spoken Mr Freeman 6ft2.25 and 6ft1.5 for today’s height. 😁

If we look at all the photos of him and Cooper its safe to say there is no less than 2 cm beetween them. Morgan also have loose posture with him. standing tall it could be 3 cm.Morgan is probably 186,5 if he is measured today. I still insist on the full 189 for his peak. The only guy that could make him look under 189 peak was christopher reeve. in some old movie it look like atleast 3 cm if not more beetween them and reeves was 192. If reeves was the full 193 then morgan did look legit 189. Overall morgan have seemed that height in all other movies.

Kobe is almost 6’5 and freeman is barely scraping 6’2, people in that 6’0.5-6’2 range can look much shorter around a 6’5 guy who is massively built like Kobe especially in a pair of dress shoes adding an additional cm.Anyways freeman can still touch 6’2.5 lmo after 5 hours up and drop to 6’2.25. @Celebheights 6'1.5 well yeah he look more than 3 inches shorter than Kobe on that picture, but in my opinion, Kobe's forehead are relatively smaller than average so that make his eye level much higher than guys with simillar stature as him, so that make people look rather shorter than they actually are when standing next to him, that's why i think Morgan can still have 6'1 based on that picture.

Freeman is a guy in person a couple decades ago when I met him who was probably just a little over 6’2” but could definitely come off taller, a man who had good posture and a confident way about him. Running into a young Paul Rudd at the same time, he seemed very different, slumped, rushed, shortish and not wanting to chat with folks.

I think because of all the over inflated heights in Hollywood sometimes people's actual heights can be difficult to assess,Freeman is probably just a very honest 6ft2 guy and sometimes can seem taller because of the exaggerations of some of his Hollywood counterparts.

I wouldn’t argue 6’3” for him. In the movie Edison, Morgan Freeman appeared to be roughly 2”-2 1/2” inches taller than Justin Timberlake. If Morgan Freeman was in his peak 6’3”, then Timberlake’s 6’1” claim all of a suddenly makes sense.

That's really strange to shrink that much If they were not.

There can be a lot of factors involved.

Usually, a healthy person without a sports background and no injuries is not going to shrink much.

You do realize our obesity problem is insane in the United States.

It's more than just "older people" I know.

I golf with many, many different older people. Most haven't shrunk much, If at all. At most their shrinkage is similar to Morgan Freeman.

I know 1 man who says he has shrunk 2, but he's an outlier.

@Viper: I can assure you they are just normal people with normal, non-back-taxing jobs, yet they shrunk a noticeable amount before age 60. Either way I've said pretty much all I'll say on the matter. You won't be able to debunk human shrinkage by bringing up older people you know who seemingly haven't shrunk much or some who can look taller when they want to. People shrink with age, some more than others, and I'm sure most would agree Freeman hasn't shrunk as much as you'd expect from a tall 80-something-year-old.

Those late 50s people were probably hardcore sports people or ran everyday.

So much of perceived shrinkage is just worse posture.

Out of all the people I've known over the years, and only one that has even remotely shrunk to my eye is my eye doctor

Agreed. While people do obviously shrink substantively as they age, in some cases a fair amount of their height depreciation is comprised of poor and/or compensating posture. It takes more effort to stand at attention at any time and with advancing age, for some folk it might literally be downright too painful also. A lot of current photos of Clint Eastwood crop out the lower vision of broadly planted feet and clearly bent knees (possibly to for more secure balance at his age also). Anyway, when I first saw Morgan on screen I would've casually given him 6'3" at peak. At the least, I don't think he was anything below 6'2 1/2".

@Viper: Circumstantial evidence is what that is. Maybe it's genetic, maybe it's lifestyle related, maybe it's both, but the majority of people do tend to shrink at some point even if you personally know someone who seemingly hasn't shrunk at an advanced age. I too know a few people like that who stayed within 0.5in of peak height through 70's and early 80's, I'm not saying they don't exist, but for every one of those I could name 10 others who had lost 1-2 inches at the same age, even a couple who lost near 1 inch by late 50's.

I know a a guy who is near 80 who is a former minor league baseball player. He was listed at 6-3 and still looks it.

Based on my family and others I think a lot of it is poorer posture, not shrinkage.

I see so many older guys when they stand up straight for something like the national anthem, they automatically become "taller" all of a sudden. Hell my dad seems closer to 6-1 when that happens

@cmillz: You can say that in the case of some photos but definitely not at all of them. For example, in his first two photos next to James Woods, Woods is closer to the camera and only on the third they are at a similar distance. And in the picture with Jerry Lewis, here not Morgan but Lewis stands a little closer to the camera. Also in his photos next to Brad Pitt, Elisabeth Shue and Robin Wright they are also located at a similar distance from the camera. However, when it comes to his photos with Ashley Judd, I was mistaken when writing about their footwear in my last comment, because it wasn't about their footwear, but only about Ashley heels. Looking at photos, videos and movies of Morgan from the 80's, 90's and the beginning of the 21st century I would still say that Morgan was one of the more legit 189 cm guys and that is why I hope that Rob will someday give Morgan 6ft 2.5 as his peak height.

For his peak height, I would rule out a flat 6'2 or the full 6'3 for him and say that anywhere between 6'2.25 and 6'2.75 could be argued for him which is why 6'2.5 would be the ideal listing. It seems unlikely that he's only lost a half-inch by now, 2cm seems far more likely.

He looked the same height as Clint Eastwood in the 90s, Eastwood was a fraction off peak at that time and stood about 6ft2.5,so 6ft2.5 sound's like a realistic height for Freeman at that time. Also in the clip with Michael Jackson, Jackson is wearing very high heels, and if he was 5ft9 barefoot then he was 5ft11.5 in those heels, and Freeman looked 6ft4 in comparison, if you take his heel into account. He also held his own with Conan who IMO was a solid 6ft4 guy, so 6ft2.5 very believable as Freeman's height.

I'd have no trouble seeing Freeman as edging someone like Samuel L. Jackson by a cm or even more, who really doesn't convince as being an more than a flat 6'2" standing his best at his peak, probably never being more than 6'1.5" by early evening. I am 37 and went to the wax museum in london, I was the exact same height as morga freeman altough I am only 72,88 inches flatn and the issue was this one, he surely must have shrunk with age, from my 6 inches flat to Mr Freeman 6,2 or over is impossible. Richard, height loss can vary greatly from person to person. Freeman seems to have done unusually well not losing much at all, but Clint is the other extreme as he lost more than most.

Strong 6'2" seems right just as he said. Problem is when an older actor claims a height, you're never sure if they're claiming a peak or current height(e.g., Ernest Borgnine). Wouldn't be surprised if he'd have claimed 6'3", would have been a lot more reasonable than Samuel L. Jackson claiming it.

Danimal, if you have men who lose significantly more than average like Clint, Arnold, Hogan and Dolph, then you also must have men, who lose significantly less than average. Morgan Freeman just happens to be one of them, although I do think he could look as tall a 6'2.5" or even 6'3" at times in the early 90s. Also, that survey only included 2,084 people. A decent sample to extrapolate from, but far from enough to be conclusive with 320 million people in the US alone.

There are no good shots of him and Clint together in unforgiven,but there are a few pics of them from that time and Clint has the edge on Morgan. Clint was about 6ft3 then.Now Morgan is taller. In last vagas he looked still a strong 6ft2.

Robbins may very well have been a full 6ft5 in his 20's-30's and woken up at 6ft6. But really a barefoot 198cm guy in the evening peak? I don't know about one. That would bring Freeman up to almost 6ft4 which he never looked. Freeman could have been a solid 189cm guy though.

Freeman usually always comes across as tall on film. He was obviously shorter than Tim Robbins in Shawshank but then again I believe Tim is around 6'5" to 6'6" tall.

I could be wrong on this, but I just saw "Ted 2" and at the end he appeared to be wearing some HUGE badly disguised lifts. Check out his shoes in the court-house, the mid-section appears to be nearly vertical and the light reflects it, his trousers do nothing to disguise it as they hang about 3 inches above his foot as if he's taller than the trousers expected and he even walks a little bit as if he's got some big uncomfortable lifts in.
Possibly the worst example if lift wearing I've ever seen.

Yep, a very tall guy, I met and talked to him in the late 90s. Freeman look 6'2.25"-6'2.75" at that time, commanding presence and voice in person even though I'm a solid 2 inches taller (don't recall but I believe I was fully grown by that point).
