Actually looks 6ft2 range in this photo with Alan Napier (solid 6ft6) and he's further away from the camera!

Not this tall for me. Definitely edged by Milland in Dial M for Murder, about 1cm shorter imo. 6ft1 flat would be the best listing.

John Williams, not to be confused with the composer, conductor and pianist of the same name, finally has his own page - hooray!
Ah! The picture is from an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, which has rapidly become one of my favourite programmes since I found that it’s showing on Sky Arts.
John was indeed a very tall man for his time.

Wow! Two great classic cinema adds in a row. Keep them coming, Rob :)
I’m still supporting 6’1” flat for Williams’ peak. He was at least half an inch under Ray Milland in Dial M For Murder (I previously posted the relevant footage on the Milland page), barely two inches taller than James Mason in Island in the Sun, and was even sometimes struggling to match Cary Grant’s 6’0.5” in To Catch a Thief. By the time of The Secret War of Harry Frigg, Williams was about a full inch under 6’1” Charles Gray. Williams also hardly cleared 6’1” with the older Alan Napier in Rob’s above provided photo. Therefore, Williams never really struck me as more than a solid 6’1”.
