Height is getting a little inconsistent on here. Tom Skerrit is down as 5ft 9.5 (and looks it in the picture with our esteemed site editor) but he was taller than Woods in Contact. In my view Woods has never been taller than 5ft 9.5. His height has been exaggerated appearing with the short Scorsese band of actors with even Robert DeNiro never being over 5ft 7.5 peak height. This is a great site but comparative analysis is often poorly employed by the users.

Going back to the 80s (for example the Academy Awards in 1987), Oliver Stone had at least 1in on him. I think 5'11 is fine as a peak height for him.

He is also not 5'10½ anymore. He is probably close to 5'10, but might be a little shorter now.

No way, I think Rourke would have been. A fifty or sixty something Rourke looked quite close in height to 6ft Calzaghe who rob has met and in 1998 had minimum 1 inch on Mike Tyson who was a string 5ft10 back then. Also looked a similar range to guys like Denzel Washington, I think at peak he would have been a solid 181cm guy at least.

James Woods is not 5'10. In Casino he wore platform shoes as he exits the door from a cafe after taking Sharon Stone's Money he is a good head and 3 inches shorter than the door and this is with platforms on. Average American door whether commercial or residential is 6'8. He looked 5;8 with platform shoes on when he did Casino. Today he would be 5'6 at most but if he were to have his photo taken with Rob he would probably be close in height because actors when they drop in height they go for the shoe lifts to keep the disposition they have when they were younger.I believe today he is 5'6. In Casino he was 5'7 flat feet, Platform shoes he looked 5'8 to 5'8.5 when he did Casino.

Woods was quite a bit shorter than Brian Dennehy in the 80s. Around 5'11" seems possible, but only 182 cm in the morning. 5'8.5"-5'9" Eric Roberts was almost as tall in really big Cuban heels. But De Niro was never 5'9.5". 5'8.5" maybe, possibly 5'9" max. It'd make sense Woods would be the same height as Alec Baldwin because Baldwin was never taller than 5'11" himself. Surprisingly, Woods did look 182 cm with Glenn, even knowing what we know now, but he did have possible camera and pavement advantages.

I've recently watched contact, and in that movie Woods portrayed an important role.
In 1997 Woods was 50 so I think he was still at his peak, or if he has lost something I think it would have been a very small fraction at times...in contact he was as tall as Matthew mcconaughey and Tom skerrit.
Rob met the last one and listed him as a 5'10" in 2012 and a 5'11" peak guy...
5'11.5" or even more are actually extremely optimistic measurements for James woods...
5'11" at peak is realist I'd say!

Judd De Niro looked taller than 5'9 at peak. He looked 6 inches taller than Pesci in Raging Bull who looks over 5'3 in that movie. De Niro looks 176 cm in Raging Bull and Deer Hunter. Woods looks 181-82 cm in Once Upon a time in America. I think he may have hit 6 feet in the morning back in the day.

Never taller than 5'11", that video which Spence posted is nothing conclusive. Firstly, it's next to impossible to compare them together because of the angle of the shot. De Niro's height has also been argued, from my point of view he was never taller than 5'9". But even so, that scene from Once upon a time in America says absolutely nothing about their height since you can't compare them to each other. I saw that film some years ago but I don't recall them ever standing next to each other in any clear shots, since they spent much of that movie apart.

But back to Woods. Every single occasion when I've been able to compare him to another actor, the conclusion is always close to 5'11". One of which I've mentioned before is Salvador from 1986. There he stands on more than one occasion next to James Belushi, they seemed very close in height, Belushi might have had half an inch on Woods at most. Belushi is listed as 5'11" and looks that height.

Although his height really doesn't matter, the current listing seems accurate enough.

if Glenn confirms the pavement didn't give him any advantage, his peak height should definitely be ugraded to 6'1 and his current height to 6 or a little less. if you compare this picture to others of Glenn with legit 6'1, there's little doubt this guy is much more than the listed peak 5'11

The guys saying he looks more than 6 ft in the pic are simply exagerating, he may be 6 ft right on the dot or maybe even 182 cm. I simply don't see a 12 cm difference there (which should be under the eye, is Glenn's top of the head under his eyes level? no) 6 ft 2 is ridiculous. Anything from 5'11.5 to 6 feet is possible, but I don't see anything over or under that. Probably 5'11.75.

In this pic he does look tall around 6'1'' - 6'2'', but there is a lot of pics of him in which he doesn't look over 5'11'' - 6'0''. The angle and the the sloping ground makes him look taller. I think he was 6'0'' ish in his youth. Glenn I think that you are right about Kevin Dillon. He probably is 5'10'' in the morning. He tends to slouch which makes him look 5'8'' - 5'9''.

Frank I agree,I thought Colin was my height cause looks short in movies.but I asked my friends and they all said to be polite,"a little taller".then when I meet the guy,and he is consistantly 5-11 everytime I see him,with long legs and body,I cant figure it out.you could kind of tell when someone is short with lifts.maybe he is a hair over 5-9 and wears lifts.5-8.5 is too low.thanks for hearing me out.

Well, we agree on Woods. But in Farrell's case, why does he look so short in his films?

Its not about it being a myth Frank.you need to put your ego at rest.I AGREE WOODS is 5-10.but I SAW him look 6ft.so have others,hence the 6ft statements.just like I see Colin Farrell always at 5-11,maybe he is a little under 5-10.lifts arent the answer to everything,but in WOODS and Farrells case it might.you always seem to catch everyone liftless.I willing to bet my life Colin is no smaller than 5-9.75.I saw Woods look my height 16 years ago!

Woods is exactly 5'10" This silly myth that he's 6' just cracks me up! I'm sure it tickles Woods as well. The reason he looked taller than De Niro is that he IS taller than De Niro. De Niro is only about 5'8". My God, an aging formerly 5'10" Dana Andrews was taller than De Niro in The Last Tycoon!

In Eyewitness (1981) he is a lot shorter than Morgan Freeman. If Morgan Freeman was 6 ft 3 at that time, then Woods was no more than 5 ft 10 in the 80s.

I doubt Woods was ever more than 5'11. He was 35 when "Once Upon a Time in America" was made in 1982, still a young man, and looked only slightly taller than the 5'9 De Niro.

I actually don't think he was ever 6'. He looks 5'11" in most of his 80's films. Saw him in H'wood one night, spoke to me in my car.
