Joe Pesci seems to usually be a tad taller than Martin Scorsese (who used to be about 5'3) in photos together. Maybe Pesci was a strong 5'3 while Scorsese could dip below 5'3 at times. Either way these two are very short. I think the average guess is a tad too low for Pesci.

Hey Rob....I'm about 5feet3,and yet I still find shorter people than me when I'm shopping. Yet movies with Joe Pesci, almost everyone looks taller than him. I wonder if they are using all taller extras and background actors. I try and find where Joe pesci is the taller one,in a movie,especially with a female character,and he is either the same size as the female actress or shorter.


Yet at 5feet3,I see plenty of shorter people.

You can be very short and still a good fighter. I have an uncle that's 5'4.5-5'5 range and he used to be hard as nails back in the day. He could take down guys who were 6 foot and he wasn't a muscular fella either just a good scrapper lol.

Not many people know, but Tommy Desimone was actually 6ft2+ (I've heard up to 6ft4) and built like brickhouse...could properly fight and could take it aswell as dish it out....Pesci's character seemed a little overprotected....not legitimately tough...

He made both Danny Glover and Mel Gibson look gigantic in the Lethal Weapon films. Yes, Danny is a foot taller(6'4) and Gibson is at most near 5'10 but he barely scrapes 5ft3.
I'd say a flat 5ft3 based on him with average height and taller actors/actresses.
He could be under now due to age and posture.

I honestly think Pesci just scraped 5’4” at his peak, but that is the absolute maximum. He could have been as low as 5’3” range at peak, but I would not believe anything lower. Anything within the parameters of 5’3”-5’4” could have been argued for. Pesci looks taller than Martin Scorsese in many of their photos together, in some photos they look the same height. I think Pesci was a shade taller than Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny.

He was 5’3” at peak and is probably 5’1”-5’2” now. I find Joe claiming 5’5” hilarious. He was never that tall especially when you saw him next to 5’9” Mel Gibson and 6’4” Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon 2, 3, and 4. He was laughably short compared to those two, I think he actually looked shorter than 5’3” in that movie, like barely 5’0”. In Home Alone, he looked more than a foot shorter than Daniel Stern and he didn’t even reach his shoulders. He looked at least half a foot shorter than 5’9” Robert De Niro who isn’t very tall, but he towered over Pesci when they were together in Goodfellas and Casino. He made 6’0” or so Ray Liotta look like a giant in comparison. Joe Pesci was 5’3” max in the old days and is probably no taller than 5’2” now.

That's pretty cool to see a stand-in use this site for his work. This site has certainly grown in recognition.

And there's many reasons to find height interesting, including all of the things that go into projecting a certain image on the screen. For instance, it's interesting to see that Boris Karloff, who played the original Frankenstein, was under 6 feet tall. And I know that I have many other things to occupy my mind, height is just one of many interests. I assume most others on the site are the same way. If you don't like it then how did you find your way to this site and why post a comment?

You can see that here with Scorsese: Click Here Not only are his shoes thick, but it looks like he's standing on something and you can imagine him standing on his toes there. Lifts don't really work as well with really short men. Proportions look way off, but I can't fault anyone for wanting a boost. Btw, Sharon Stone looks like an Amazonian compared to them at about 5'8"! And Pesci had pretty bulky shoes at the Lethal Weapon premiere, but more importantly, didn't look much shorter than Jet Li and looked at least 5'4" with a roughly 5'9" Mel Gibson: Click Here This height seems about right, I wouldn't try arguing any taller than 5'3.5".

I would. There is a scene in My Cousin Vinny where I think him and Marisa are barefoot and if anything she edged him out I think. And if you really look at her with Gena Rowlands in another film, Tomei was more 5 ft 3 range than 5 ft 4.

I have 'Goodfellas' and 'Casino', both excellent films and I've seen Joe playing a more comical part in 'Home Alone'. Of course, he looks tiny in all these films - certainly not a full 5ft5, as he claims! I'd say 5ft3.5 - 5ft4 at most. Nowadays he'll probably be even smaller!
Last night I ordered a copy of 'My Cousin Vinny' because it sounds hilarious in the write-up and I will receive it at some stage today.
When I've seen it and been able to peruse his height, I might revise my ideas, but until then
I'm going for 5ft3.5!
One last little thought: his high-pitched voice makes him 'sound' like a short person!!!

Well, watching him in Lethal Weapon 2 next to Mel Gibson who wears cowboy boots he looks 160 but reaches Mel's eyes especially in the scene before Riggs falls down in the pool beneath the hotel. I don't know how many inches there could be between the two but Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon looks short, maybe 173 in boots and 168 flat (this is only my opinion). There are few scenes in the Lethal Weapon saga in which his barefoot (Gibson) and the cam always films him form below to make him look taller. In that scene I mentioned before Joe Pesci's barefoot while Danny Glover and Mel Gibson wear shoes, lifted shoes in the case of Mel. I'm not an expert of height comparisons though so cannot judge with extreme certainty.

Funny but him and Scorsese look an awful lot like the tiny little old fellas I saw talking on the streets of southern Italy in that photo and I swear a lot of those fellas would be lucky to have ever seen 5 ft 4. 5'2"-5'6" is very common for old men in southern Italy.Some of the shortest ones I saw with back trouble though granted I doubt were much over 5 ft but certainly 5 ft 3-4 is a very common height for old guys in southern Italy and Pesci and Scorsese would fit it right away. I don't know if you've ever been Rob but if you ever do go walk through some of the villages in the south and you'll be amazed at the height of the old men who congregate in the village centres outside shops!! Not all are that short and some are 5'6-5'9" but it is rare to see an older guy over 5'10" in southern Italy! Some of the 6'4"-6'5" Italian footballers like Luca Toni must feel like Bill Walton in the south!

Could Pesci have been 5'2.75" (159 cm), Schneider 5'3.5" (in comparison to 5'7 Martin Lawrence)? Also Pesci did look a little more than a foot shorter than Daniel Stern in Home Alone.

Obviously Pesci will have lost at least a bit at his age, so he could easily be closer to 5'2 now, but no need for a peak height listing since he isn't all that active now and is more one of those legendary actors.

Will never forget the time he was on Saturday Night Live in 1992. There was a long sketch with him and Rob Schneider and you guessed it, Rob WAS TALLER than Joe. Joe would have been 48 or 49 at that time. Rob was not the 5'5" he claimed for himself either, so what did that make Joe Pesci? Short and even shorter now (20 years later).

And yes Michael FIRED Dileo in 1989. They had nothing to do with each other after that.Even though he suspiciously came back to Michael's life just 3 months before his death.

And I definitely think Joe Pesci is more like 5'2 or 5'3. And so do most people. In Moonwalker for example he wears these shoes with huge heels! Sure he looks a bit taller in them but I doubt he's as tall as 5'4 without those heels.
Seems like this place has everyones heigth with their shoes ON! I very much like to think of actual height wthout the shoes on thank you very much. For example I'm only 5'6(about 167 cm) but with the right kind of shoes I can easily look close to 5'9.

Under 5'3...He played the bad guy in MJ's Moonwalker film, a role clearly based on Michael's old manager Frank Dileo. Dileo has to be under 5'3 too, he always looked so tiny with Michael and we ALL know MJ isn't any more than 5'7 at MOST himself! So I think Joe Pesci must be only 5'2 or something. Watch closely at the end of the scene when he shoots Samuel L. Jackson (Stacks is his name in the film). When he exits the door, you can briefly see a massive 3" Cuban heel on his shoes. You can also see his heels when he leaves his mother's house to become a made man. Basically any master shot you can see his 3" heels.

I believe Joe Pesci is 5'4". What makes him look super short in his movies is that people compare Pesci to the average man (5'10"), and of course he looks much shorter, but if you look at Joe next to the average woman (5'5") he will look about the same height (ignore heels though). Look at his movies, Pesci is much shorter than the men but about the same height as the women, thus making him around 5'4" (give or take an inch).

Yes, people agree movies are no indication of true height but still site comparative height in movies as evidence. Pesci is particularly short - shorter than Spade / and schneider too I think. I can't buy more than 5'2" - 5'3" absolute max. I think Pesci owns every scene he's ever in. He is reported to be incredibly quick witted and highly intelligent. He's in Dudley Moore territory I think. I actually think all 4 I mentioned are scene stealers and likely all pretty intelligent too.

I watched Joe Pesci on the golf channel,when he played a round with Christie Kerr of the LPGA. They were nearly identical in height. On Christie's website, she is listed as 5'3 1/2", so Joe could be 5'4".

My husband who is 5'9" met DeNiro while working on his Hotel Project in Tribeca a few years ago. I asked him, what's he like? My husband said, "he's small," so I guess DeNiro really is around 5'9" tall. My husband looks a little bit shorter than the average guy walking around so I guess DeNiro is around 5

If you watch My Cousin Vinny, Marissa Tomei has some good sized heels on and she is probably around 2 inches taller than Joe in most scenes. I think her flat footed height is around 5'4". That would seem to make Pesci right around the same height.

I don't think that De Niro wores lifts in Casino.(but I can tell you that he wores lifts in Heat). Compare De Niro to Sharon Stone, Don Rickles and others and he looks to me 5 ft 9.

A better movie for comparing De Niro and Pesci is Raging Bull, there are scenes in wich De Niro is barefoot and there are scenes in wich both have shoes, Pesci comes to De Niro's eyes, so let's say De Niro head is 24 cm, pesci comes to his eyes so Pesci 12 cm shorter than Bobby.

Joe Pesci is in the most sites listed as 5 ft 5 because he comes to De Niro's nose. Sometimes Pesci can look short in his films, Pesci works a lot with Scorsese who likes to use 5 ft 8 + girls in his films like Loraine Bracco (5 ft 9), Sharon Stone (5 ft 8 + 3 inches of her big heels) and Cathy Moriarty (5 ft 9).

Trust me CasperUK, as I'm sure every commenter on this site can confirm that I of all people ALWAYS take footwear into account when measuring a height. I'll try to explain as best I can without rambling... but peoples' heights are still directly proportionate when comparing 2 people in shoes. When they wear heels or lifts, that's when a variable is thrown in. That is why I always take this into account.

Also, I consider a person at their real height with or without shoes. I see a 6'1'' guy, but once he puts shoes on, I dont consider him to be nearly 6'3'' all of a sudden. I'm just over 5'7.5'', and I don't think that I magically transform into 5'9'' when I put on shoes...I'm still the same old short me haha.

That's why I paid close attention to footwaer at Pesci's. Pesci had normal shoes on, while my grandmother who still wears heels at age 73 had larger shoes on than Pesci. She's shrunk nearly 2 inches in her old age, and is now 5'3'' and pesci still looked a strong 5'4'' beside her even though he had a shoe disadvantage. I'm standing firmly by this height, Rob.

Mr Awesome you have to consider the shoes a person wears, the average shoe a man wears has a median height of 3.7cm, if Pesci is 5'4 (160cm), take that into account and he is just around 5'2.5". You have to consider the footwear a person is wearing, that is why i always like to go for the natural height of a person.
