People can downplayed height or inflating it. Most people tend to round up or inflating height instate of claiming a true barefoot height to others. Reynolds case i go with a downplay more like the 6'2 he use to claim and i would have need to re-measured my cousin next time who get a 6'1 7/8 (187.6) at night, because he met Reynolds up closed in person having notice same footwear they had and he told that he look about an inch lower than Reynolds. Other case people like Brandon Routh and Geoff Stults i would go with 6'1 favor on his word on Letterman show. But no i would have thought they were all 6'2 at worst.

@viper: Ryan's claim is a convincing argument as the most logical conclusion is that a man claiming to be 6'1"-6'2" did measure between those figures. Playing devil's advocate, all I can really think of is Ryan being undermeasured due to posture or an error or downplaying his height to be modest after Letterman remarking on it embarrassed him, but this seems even more of a stretch as I can't see him pulling the 6'1" out of thin air like that. If Mark Strong can be 6'1.5" then Ryan can be as well, though I'd lean more 6'1.75" in general. Internet listings depend on the source, though I do remember not thinking of Ryan as this tall back in his Van Wilder days. Maybe that's because I also read a shorter listing. I wonder why he decided to claim 6'3" all of a sudden.

@Canson: Yeah, if I had to guess one was taller, I'd say Favre. Of course, we don't know that would still measure a full 6'2 1/8" at 46(when the photo was taken) after 20 years in the NFL. He doesn't look like he's shrunk to me, but I don't think you'd notice if he were a 1/8" or even 1/4" less.

@viper: That's honestly what he looks in the 2 photos above. If Ryan were 6'2.5" minimum, he should look close to 4" taller than Taylor Kitsch and the difference doesn't look anywhere near that. At the very least, it's not unreasonable to give Ryan the height he claimed. The only explanation I could think of aside from Ryan measuring 6'1.5"-6'1.75" is he was embarrassed at Letterman remarking about his height and modest because of that.

I agree that Ryan's height varies a lot in photos and I think your guess is as likely as any, though I can see why some guess him at 189 cm. With that said, saying 189 cm is the least he could be like Junior requires emphasizing the comparisons where Ryan looks taller while disregarding the ones where he looks shorter. In fairness to viper, Ryan's one claim seems to support that estimate and Ryan looks more 187 cm above with Taylor Kitsch and Denzel. As for my guess, I could either see josh b's estimate or the possibility Ryan never drops below 6'2" and could measure 1/4" over at noon or might be the same exact 6'2 1/8" that Brett Favre measured. I'd be somewhat surprised if he measured more than 1/4" taller or shorter than 6'2" in the evening or around noon. A legit 6'2" is quite tall, but people don't realize this because many 6'1" max guys claim 6'2".

@Canson: I'd give Denzel the full 6'0" peak, but yeah he is looking under it these days and in the photo above, Ryan has 6 cm max on him, but Denzel looks to only have 0.7" shoes and Ryan has about 1 cm thicker footwear so considering footwear he does only look about 2" taller. Denzel at 182 cm would be roughly 184 cm in those shoes, but posture is a bit of a variable as neither man stands that straight these days. He's not looking 6'2.5" in the above photo with Taylor Kitsch either considering Kitsch is 5'11" max by his own admission and Rob lists him slightly under that.

Snoop has awful posture. He's far from an ideal point of reference. Samuel L. Jackson can also look shorter than he is. Just look at Jackson with 5'9" Kurt Russell in a lot of pictures. Here's a 53 year old Jackson back in 2002 with 6'1" Barry Bonds: Click Here With a slouch and I believe less footwear, he winds up looking shorter than Bonds. Granted, Bonds could be 186 cm, but even so, I have doubts Jackson was a full 6'2" and even if he was, this shows he could always look shorter than he is. I think Paul Walker should be downgraded a 1/4" instead. It'd fit better with his 6'1" claim and explain why he didn't look much taller than Freddie Prinze Jr. A full 6'2" like Ryan and Brett Favre will look quite tall. Ryan could be 6'2.25", but I have a hard time saying he was taller than a peak Brett Favre(6'2 1/8")

Rob, I think Ryan is 6'3, 6'2.5 at least. In an interview with Letterman who claims to be 6'2 you can see Reynolds is visibly taller. Also, in pictures with Samuel jackson and Hugh Jackman who both claim 6'2 also. Hugh jackman is listed as 6'1.5 here on celebheights and Reynolds is at least an inch taller than jackman, probably more to be honest.

He could be a hair under and chose to be honest or could have been just 6’2” flat now a days and not known he grew until later. Had I not played ball in college likely I may have continued thinkinh 6’4 flat today but was measured then so knew I grew a hair. I still say 6’4” but in some cases 6’4.5 or 6’4 and change if the need arises someone is close in height and claims 6’4”. Then again I’ve met people who are maybe 6’5 once and he had footwear advantage making him 6’6” in shoes whereas I touched 6’5 in a casual shoe and he asked if I was 6’4” and said yes. Also same when I had a 6’3” ranger ask if I was 6’4. I didn’t pay attention to shoes but may have been a strong 6’3” where it was no advantage just rounded down. I will round down to 6’4” often but if I’m at the advantage I will say 6’4 1/2 like when I wear Jordan’s or timbs. I never go above 6’4 1/2 tho very often unless I go with 6’4/6’5 which is rare these days. I almost never claim 6’5 these days although when I played ball I did sometimes in basketball conversations but if it were around friends or family who knew I was 6’4” then I was 6’4”

I have a German friend who claims he's 193-194cm, but doesn't look anything under 194cm and could be solid 6'4.5" He's still in his early 20's so my theory is that he could've grown a bit since measuring 193-194cm and wasn't aware that he grew. It seems strange to me to say anyone has "easily" 0.5 cm on anyone. Such a difference is negligible visually as normal variations in popular styles of footwear and posture vary at least that much while different hair styles, eye levels and proportions could also swing a difference that small.

Jack I've met and played against and he's not more than 188-189 similar to Russ. Ryan was slouching in my pic, but not that bad, he's slouching here worse as he slouches down to only a half inch or so taller than Gosling: Click Here But here's the one full pic of the two from that I've seen so far and then a better one, which shows footwear on stage: Click Here Ryan seems at least an inch taller in both - perhaps 3 cm - despite worse posture in the first and a noticeable footwear disadvantage in the second as he's in 0.6" Converse and Gosling in what look to be pretty thick shoes, though I don't know how much they add in the 1.25" to 1.5" range. I'm not so sure about that stage though as there's a [grainy] video and it seems that height changes depending on where they stand. As for Fillion, his shoes aren't at all what I'd call suspicious. They're not less than an inch, but there's no reason to think he'd have some sort of lift. In fact, they don't look much different than Ryan's, perhaps 1/4" more if anything. He did look taller, but Fillion only claims 6'1.5". I've said Ryan is much more likely a full 6'2" than 6'1.5". So aside from Ryan probably being a half inch taller in reality, there's also a low angle for a lot of those photos(which tend to favor the taller man) and the camera is also on Ryan's side for some of them.

I don't know why he claimed 6'1"-6'2" as well and won't speculate too much except to say it'd be foolish to completely rule out something that fits that range without knowing why he said it. Of course saying possible and probable are too different things. I do think a lot of posters don't show enough hesitance guessing people taller than they claim to be. There are exceptions, but they're more rare the shorter the person. This isn't necessarily referring to Reynolds, but I see it throughout the site.

Due to the fact that neither of them have their heads fully up straight, shoulder level is the best way to compare them (which will be fairly accurate considering that both have faces that are easily 10" or more inches length, with Reynold's possibly being just a fraction of an inch longer based off of the photo that you linked where the chins were at the exact same level). Reynold's shoulder look as if they are AT LEAST 2" inches higher than Gosling's. Another photo from the event that you linked, where Reynold's head is slightly tilted down (while Gosling's is tilted a bit up):

The eye level implies that there's minimal difference, but that's clearly not the case when comparing the tops of their heads. Most of Reynold's facial length is in his forehead, while the latter has most of his length in the lower part. Therefore, considering this and the head positions, you could add about 4-4.5 CM onto the number of the CM that you see between the eye levels, and you have the difference (this isn't considering the rest of Reynold's posture). There's easily 2 1/4"-2 1/2" inches between them.

It's not that Reynolds needs to be upgraded, but rather it's that most celebs who stand next to him should be slightly downgraded. Reynolds is a legit 6'2" no more no less. I see some people inflate him to 6'2.5" or even 6'2.75" which is inaccurate.

@Celebheights: Yes, I do think 187 cm is possible just as I think up to 189 cm is possible. I've praised Rob many times and specifically ask his opinion, but that doesn't mean I won't disagree with him at times. It'd be foolish to say he couldn't be under 6'2" when

1.Ryan has claimed 6'1"-6'2" range.
2.He looked clearly shorter than 6'2" Brett Favre even accounting for a footwear disadvantage of probably 1.5 cm
3.He looks no taller than Mark Strong whose acting agency lists him 185 cm and is listed at 6'1.5" by Rob
4.He looks 187 cm with 182 cm Denzel and 179 cm Taylor Kitsch in the two pics used by Rob above

So if you want me to rule out the possibility of Ryan being slightly below 6'2" then these things will have to happen.

1.You'll have to find me Ryan saying he purposely downplays his height and/or claiming to be taller than a flat 6'2".
2.You'll have to find a better picture with Brett Favre than this one: Click Here where Ryan looks basically the same height or within 1 cm max
3.Rob will have to upgrade Mark Strong to at least 6'2" or you find me a better pic showing Mark to be shorter than Ryan.

There's a lack of balance on this page. Photos where Ryan looks taller than 6'2" are emphasized ad nauseam and some are even misrepresented to suit that purpose(e.g., the Brett Favre pic and the recent pic posted with Emma Stone) like an author with an agenda quoting someone and then telling the readers what they just read rather than let the quote speak for itself. This pic with 6'0.25" Ryan Gosling is no worse than the vast majority of pics regularly posted in support of Ryan being taller: Click Here Ryan was slouching as he often does, but they look like that in most of the series of photos. Taking that photo and others at face value, Ryan winds up not looking much taller than Gosling. Do we know exactly how much he's losing from his posture? Of course not. Saying it's possible he's a solid 187 cm is not the same as saying he IS that. I'd like to see him with better posture before being more definitive and I'd also like to know why he said 6'1"-6'2". Here is Ryan with Common: Click Here Ryan doesn't quite have 2" on Common the way they're standing. Both have loose posture, but while Ryan is likely losing more height, it's possible Common is more like 5'11.5" or 5'11.75".

It's funny how people almost lose their minds when you suggest it's possible Ryan is a 1/4" shorter than Rob's listing and what Ryan claims. If you had said Jackman at 187 cm was possible 10 years ago, the reaction would have been as strong. Frankly, I haven't even looked at Ryan's height that much. Almost everything I've posted or commented on has been right in front of my face or provided by someone else. Before this inevitably devolves to me being accused of disliking Ryan or something like that, I'll say I actually like the guy from what I've seen and give him credit for being in really amazing shape in Blade Trinity. Rarely have I seen an actor with such an impressive physique since the heyday of guys like Schwarzenegger, Stallone and Van Damme.

As for the premiere, Ryan is slouching too much to judge, but the camera is probably negligible. I don't see Ryan bigger at all in that scene, though. HHH seems bigger if anything, but fight scenes aren't good for exact height comparisons and it looks like he has bigger heels than Ryan. Ryan could very well be the full 6'2", but once again, that's not proof he's taller.

Also, Favre was measured before a couple decades of NFL football. Of course, we can't see their feet, but all things being equal, Ryan looks under 6'2" with Favre. Ryan is taller than Jackman because Jackman is about 6'1.5" and Ryan isn't even taller than Hugh in every photo of the two, which suggests to me that the difference isn't big. Glancing at the series of pics with Snoop, I can see Ryan's boots give him a clear advantage over Snoop's pretty thin sneakers. It's difficult to find a really good pic from that premiere, but the difference can definitely look more than 2 cm and Snoop's posture can make him look shorter than he should with Michael Pena and Samuel L. Jackson as well.

He's not 6'3". Sure, he can look near it on occasion, but Rob's listing seems fine. I mean look at him with 182 cm Denzel above, he only looks 2" taller despite a possible fraction footwear advantage and has 7 cm max - at least in that pic above - on 179 cm Taylor Kitsch. So he's actually looking 186-187 cm in those 2 pics. Doesn't mean he is, just like looking 190-191 cm in some pics doesn't mean he's that tall. Photos can diminish or exaggerate height. Rob has shown some striking examples of this from conventions he attended. People are focusing on times Ryan looks taller almost exclusively despite two examples above of Ryan looking shorter. Also, in some cases, it's always worth considering that the person Ryan is compared to may be shorter than believed. In Samuel L. Jackson's case, I think there's a good chance he's under 6'1" these days seeing him with 5'9" Kurt Russell.
