Federer’s 6’1” listing is fair. I could see him being no more than an inch shorter than Mahomes. He also holds his own by Murray, who stands at a flat 6’2” in person, making Djokovic’s 6’1 1/2” listing spot on.
TurtleZach4 said on 8/May/23
@Jawilder
If I made a celebheights website, I would list Federer 185 cm flat
When posture straightened, I could see a 185.5 cm listing for him
If I were to list the Big Four players, it would be:
Nadal: flat 183.5 cm
Federer: 185-185.5 cm
Djokovic: flat 187 cm
Murray: 187.5-188 cm

With 5’11.5 Jimmy Fallon at the same event with Patrick Mahomes, he’s looking a legit 6’1.
Jawilder said on 3/May/23
I think it’s possible he could be 6’0.75 at a low. The lowest I would go is my height, 184.5. I think it’s more of a posture thing with Federer. His posture is all over the place. When he is standing rock solid tho it’s hard to see him under 6’1.
Look at him with Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes is max 6’2. Fed is struggling to look over 6 feet.

Then again, you have this picture with Brady where he looks over 6’1.

And with Tiger Woods, who I don’t think was over 5’11.75, Fed looks an easy 6’1.

Turtle Zach said on 13/Aug/22
@Leighton Tang
Ronaldo isn't 6'2 (with sneakers, clears it). Djokovic is a perfect example of a 6'1.5 guy. You can see that Ronaldo is wearing a cap and is standing in erect perfect posture. Djokovic on the other hand, seems to be slouching a bit in the picture. Add in all that, Ronaldo is gaining half a inch, while Djokovic is losing 1/4 to 1/2 inch. This evens Ronaldo down to a strong 6'1 (6'1 to 6'1 1/8) and Djokovic a very very weak 6'2 (6'1 1/2 to 6'1 5/8)
Adam Fernandes said on 11/Aug/22
Kyrgios is a legit 6,4. He just slouches a lot. Lowest I could see is 6,3.75.
Leighton Tang said on 11/Aug/22
@John: Super Tennis Fan
Look how thick Ronaldo's shoes are though. They clearly give much more height than Djokovic's.
Leighton Tang said on 11/Aug/22
@Turtle Zach
Rolando is 6'2 though, not 6'1, so he would be half an inch taller than Djokovic and a full inch taller than Federer. (Unless you meant Ronaldo of course)
Jawilder said on 4/Aug/22
Yeah I’ve got kygs at 6’3.5
Arch Stanton said on 4/Aug/22
Kyrgios slouches a lot though. I think 6'3.5 would be reasonable. Other way around, Novak looks a bit taller than Ronaldo there if you take off his cap.
Turtle Zach said on 3/Aug/22
@John: Super Tennis Fan
Yeah, Rolando is definitely closer to Djokovic's height than Federer is. Federer probably drops down to 6'0 7/8 (185.1 cm) at night, maybe even 6'0 3/4 (184.8 cm) after a very brutal tennis match, while Rolando maintains his 6'1 height consistently throughout the day.
If Federer ever meets Rolando, I for sure think Rolando will have Federer by at least 1/8 inch.
Also, the Djokovic and Rolando photo isn't the best way to perfectly measure their heights. Djokovic is standing closer to the camera, while Rolando has better posture in the picture (legs are also closer) which is usual for him.
I think Djokovic will edge Ronaldo with all things considered (barefooted, straight posture for both)
For me Djokovic is a solid example of 6'1 1/2, while Rolando is a guy who can range from 6'1 to 6'1 1/4 depending on pictures
John: Super Tennis Fan said on 1/Aug/22
@Turtle Zach
Speaking of Ronaldo, have you seen this side-by-side photo with him and Djokovic?
Click Here
Ronaldo actually appears to cinch out 6'1.5 Novak, at least based on eye level. But Novak's eyes could be set lower than Ronaldo's, or there could be a shoe disparity (also they are at slightly different distances from the camera, based on their feet's positions). In any case, I learn toward giving Ronaldo 6'1.5 based on this photo.
Turtle Zach said on 1/Aug/22
Fed is your typical 6'1 guy (not over, not under the mark during the afternoon). He isn't a strong 6'1 guy like Cristiano Ronaldo who can be 6'1 1/8 or maybe 6'1 1/4 in the afternoon.
Nadal: 183.5-184 cm
Federer: 185-185.5 cm
Djokovic: 186.5-187 cm
Murray: 187.5-188 cm
Kyrgios: 191.5-192 cm

Fed is 6'1 on the dot, can look a bit over sometimes maybe peak 6'1 1/8.
Kyrgios is *not* 6'4. He only looked 1.5 inches taller than 6'1.5 Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon trophy presentation. Early in his career (like during his match against Nadal at 2014 Wimbledon) he was listed at 6'3. My guess is 6'3-6'3.25, can appear even shorter because he slouches.

I think 6'1 is fine for him in retrospect, because I reckon 184.6 is his evening measurement. So he could be like 185.2 late afternoon. A 6 7/8 would probably be perfect but 6'1 is fine.
The difference to Rafa is 1/2 an inch at least but more like 3/4 or 2 cm when you see them away from the court. Rafa wears slightly more built up tennis sneaks so Rafa is perfect at 6'0.25 imo.

Jamestherealone, these pictures are after 3 hour long tennis matches, you cannot make consequences from that. If somebody like federer has a more sensitive back he can shrunk even a further 1.5 cm then the usual 1.5-2 cm loss until afternoon, and even after such a long match ha might just have a poor posture. Nadal has a bit stronger phisique and seems to holds up more straight and fine in these pictures. Actually thats the case also with me, i usually lose 1.5 -2 cms until 3 pm, but if i play long matches i can loose 3cm-4cm easily, but oc getting back some of it soon enough. In normal circumstances or on pictures before matches federer looks surely 1.5-2 cm taller than Nadal. Anyway he gets 6 feet 3/4 from me.

No James, again you can just pick one or two pics that look that way but it just isn't the case looking at all the pics or if you have met them in person as I have. There is about half an inch between them at least, and at times it can appear nearer 2 cm. This is especially true in formal events where both are presumably wearing similar dress shoes.
Remember Nadal wears air max heels with special orthotics on court. Even so, looking at all pics, not just a select couple you cherry picked, will show them with a noticeable difference in favor of Roger when on court.

Well everyone else has been brought down at least 0.25 inch since original listings here so Fed here at 6'1 throws it off a bit. Domi said on 4/Oct/20
Rob, would you consider moving Federer to 6'0.75? You have moved Novak down 0.5 inches from his original listing and Rafa down 0.25 inches from his, and it just seems a bit off to have Federer still at 6'1 flat when you look at the 3 relatively.
He is clearly closer in height to Nadal at 6'0.25 than Novak at 6'1.5 to me. He is also quite obviously shorter than C Ronaldo who is listed at 6'1 here.
There was also that program on Eurosport with the 184.6 listing, I have seen that spoken about before on tennis forums too. It is possible that being during the evening and after some athletic movements it was a bit lower than he should be listed at, so I could see a few mm more but not the full 6'1.
Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal are the 3 greatest ever, at least accomplishment wise, and it seems you have Djokovic and Nadal at specific and very precisely correct heights imo, please do the same for Roger! :)

Rafa is better than Federer. Rafa Nadal is the best tennis player ever. Just compare his records. He had 17 slams knowing just 1 type (Roland Garros) is clay. Imagine If 2 or 3 of those 4 slams are clay. Probably Rafa would had won 5 or 6 slams more than Roger Federer. Roger had more opportunities so 2 Grand slams like Autralia and US Open are strong advantage to him. Rafa just had 1/4 slams of Clay. Rafa had more and better records than him, better stadistics, etc. Since last year a ot of people say Rafa is the best tennis player ever and I agree. Roger was in the past. He is 6'0.75 on the nose. 185 cm on the nose no more. 6'1 is taller than 185 cm

I think the difference between Federer and Murray is like, one of if not the best/only examples of a true 1 inch difference between celebs that we have on this website. Probably closer to 3 cm, but still a perfect example that more people need to look at.

It's about a 3cm difference if you include Federer's footwear advantage. He's wearing thick Air Maxes while Murray's wearing thinner sneakers.

Sorry but it looks more 2,5-3cm than simply 2.While I still need to see a vid of that 184,6cm,there's always a possibility he measures that after a game or a long training session.Murray was certainly honest about his claim and I think he also measured after training.In fact this could explain why Murray looks clearly taller than Djokovic despite the latter having been listed at 187 on many places.Djokovic has a genuine chance of being as short as 186 after a game imo.

There's no chance he was 6'1.5 knowing Andy Murray stated his height 6ft 1.8in (187.5 cm) and you can see Murray is about 1'5 inch on Federer (3-4 cm). @presley Well he does seem to at least claim slightly over 6'1" since his website lists him at 186. That said, his ATP profile page lists his height as
1.85 m, although I think this is simply Imperial units converted to SI, since I looked up some other players and none of them have heights that would correspond to half-inches, like 1.87 or 1.89 for example.
I think it might be fair for him to claim 1.86 since we usually see him on the court during tennis matches, when he exerts himself more than usual and thus might fall below his usual low. If he falls to a flat 6'1" after a tennis match then 6'1.25" on a regular day is very believable

Just checked Hewitt's official profile on the Wimbledon website. He's listed there as ~
Height: 5 ft. 10 in. (1.78 metre)
Weight: 170 lbs (77.3 kilos)
It's closer than the 180 cm listings. But 177 cm would be more accurate, as 5' 9.5" looks to be his absolute low.
Also, there are plenty of pictures of him with Federer and there looks to be slightly more than 3 inches between them.
He wasn't any taller than me. I'm 5' 10.25" (in the morning), so a 177 cm tops guy really...

Hi Rob.
I'm surprised Lleyton Hewitt doesn't have a page on here.
I met him at Wimbledon this summer. He definitely isn't the 5' 11" (180 cm) that he's commonly listed at!
He's 177 cm at best. We were level. Even ground, same sized footwear. I mirrored his posture at times too, just to make sure.
In fact, I'd imagine him to be height twins with
Matt Damon.
You should add him. He was a popular champion and proof that average height players can make it in tennis.

He could well stand at 184 cm (so a tad shorter than full 6'1), which seems reasonable.

never can tell the difference between djokovic and Murray in terms of height anymore back in 2011/2012 it looked like decent half an inch now looks like nothing at all. I guess maybe just camera angles accounting for small differences. I've met Murray and he is defo not over 6"2 could seem less with a girl I know who is 5"5. Also in Davis cup photos from 2015 qf tsonga and Murray look the exact same height they are probably the best photos of them together.

@james 5"11.75 is the lowest I think you could argue I really don't see a difference is those pics but at the 2014 Aussie open I could. He is a burly guy for a tennis player so that can make him look shorter. Though 182 for wawrinka doesn't look to good for Federer at 6"1 as fed is just 0.75" taller. Both could be a fraction shy of their claim at night.

he might...having watched a couple of Costner 80's films recently I think about 6ft 1 is ok, but I wouldn't really put him over the mark.

Rob,his parents are very short compared to him,do you think that him playing since young age made him so tall compared to them ?
Editor Rob: certainly doing a sport like that will help maximise growth, maybe in some cases it can even push the body beyond a normal range it is expected to reach genetically.
So are Andy Murray's parents. It's quite common to have average parents and a tall son. There's a lot more variation in genetics than you think and there are other factors which can also account for height.

A perfect example of 6'1. No more, no less. One of the greatest tennis players of all time, and even though I'm a Nadal guy... nothing but respect and admiration for Darth Fed! (He always looked awesome in all black!) As for Arch, yes there does seem to be a lot of 6'4 + guys on tour. Interesting, yet if you look at the most successful tennis players in history, (for males) it has been between the 5'10-6'2 mark. Just this past decade, your top four players are all between 6'0.5-6'2. Who knows, like everything these days, everyone is getting taller, except for me of course! *sigh*

Rob, I wouldn't doubt 186 in the morning.

A strong 6'1" and possible 6'1.5" in the morning.

Rob, likely is 186cm?
Editor Rob
I think roughly 6ft 1 is ok for him

"Seems a big height to be an advantage in terms of groundstroke player/around the court, though obviously an advantage on serve." -I meant disadvantage on around the court!

Arch Stanton on Roger Federer
@Rob Have you noticed that tennis seems to have an unusual number of 6 ft 5-6 players? I've lost count recently how many players I've seen at 6 ft 6, Del Portro, Cilic, Querrey, Vesely, Zverev. All of them do look it when they do close up body shots on the court. The average for a male tennis player now has to be 6 ft 1-2. Almost every other game I seem to watch now there's a 6'5 or 6'6 player in it. Seems a big height to be an advantage in terms of groundstroke player/around the court, though obviously an advantage on serve.
Editor Rob: is it an advantage to be 6ft 5-7? I don't know, 6ft 1-2 might be a perfect height range if Federer and Djokovic are anything to go by.
You'd think too big wouldn't you for court mobility, but I don't think it's a coincidence that a lot of these 6'6 players are making it into the top ranking, perhaps the height with serve and more difficult to pass? You rarely ever see a male player under 6 ft nowadays!
MD said on 5/Jul/16
Height seems to be an advantage as in you'd rather be 6'5" than 5'5", these days (or any time in tennis, really). It seems, though, that if you're talking the elite of the elite (Top 5 or 10 in the world) that there certainly seems to be a point where it becomes a disadvantage compared to average-tall guys (6'0"-6'2").

Can anyone tell me their thoughts on Patrick Rafters height? He has always been listed as 6ft 1, but I'm not 100% sure either way on this. Thoughts / answers pls ?
Rafter used to have an awesome ponytail LOL. Dunno, I thought he was about 6 ft, wouldn't have though 6 ft 1.

@plus
Agree, he certainly looks more than a flat 185cm. He could be anywhere from 185.5 cm to 186 cm honestly.

184 Federer, 182 Nadal, 183 Sampras, 186 Roddick and Djokovic and 188 Murray.

Looking some pics with Kaka I would say he is a little shorter than Kaka. Kaka is 186.5 and Federer is as tall as Cristiano, 185.5 for both them

Almost as tall as
Michael Jordan...in pics where they are next to each other both with dress shoes...6'1" barefoot for sure...

Rob,
What do you think is the height difference between Federer and Isner in this pic?
Don't you think it is more than 9 inches?

Editor Rob
it can look a bit more than 9 inch, but a guy like Isner doesn't have a big head
plus said on 29/Oct/15
Now I see it clearer, Federer is 186 cm definitely. Strong 186 cm. Nadal 185 cm but his posture is not good, that's why he looks shorter. 185 cm was when he was 17 years old or 18
Dan said on 14/Oct/15
His parents are so short, it's funny how he became pretty tall. But yeah 6'1 seems correct.
plus said on 5/Oct/15
I believe Federer, he must be 185,5 cm and Nadal 184,5. De Gea is 190 cm

Rob, how much do you think Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic weigh in a typical match?
Editor Rob
probably not far off what is on their official websites, except over the course they could lose a couple of pounds.
