The ATP possibly measured him for their 185cm stat (6ft and 2cm) - but it doesn't say when he was measured. In the morning before your spine is compressed you'll be taller.
Also, he's 33 now, and no one seems to realised that from the age of 30 (on average) your body starts to die and your height decreases. On average you lose about 1mm in height per year after 30 and that rate doubles to 2mm per year from the age of 70. A professional tennis player is likely to shrink even faster than a sedentary person, due to increased wear on the virtibrae and discs. If the original ATP stat was true, and taken before he was 30, Federer is probably closer to 6ft now than 6ft 1in.

If Liam Payne is 5'11, Federer would be easily 6'1 plus and Murray would be a solid 6'3 guy, Payne is more like 5'10

A.) He looks very simular to harry when both in flat shoes, and when harry has thicker footwear Harry duly looks taller.
B.) His posture is good and he generally has decent footwear. ( harrys is bad )
C.) At times he can look identical to zayn, and in many photos even a 1 inch difference is hard to spot between them.

But really you'll never be completely accurate unless you get a special laser measurement of their heights. All of what is said on this site is based on speculation, comparing images, and maybe at best meeting up with these celebs and then guestimating their height. I agree you are probably within a few mm of their actual heights but they are still just estimations at best.

With this in mind Roger looks around his ATP listed height to me - 185 ( 6'0.75" ) or possibly a bit lower like 6'0.5" but it is difficult to tell from photos.

Pjk, the players height are measured in the morning. Because literally everyone that is enlisted in the ATP computer are measured that way, the tennis shoes is a immediate +1 inch. So they are enlisted like that. Believe it or not, players like Djokovic who is enlisted 6'2 is the same height as some 6'0 players.

Federer is always listed as 185cm on bbc sport coverage and Nadal always looks 2cm shorter to me. If Federer is this height, which i believe he is then Nadal is around the 6 ft mark or 182.8cm. David Cameron looks at least an inch taller than Nadal from that line up. I love watching Nadal but from the photo evidence i don't believe he is over 6ft. Also, i am assuming tennis players heights are measured in the morning ( which would be their optimal height ), but i don't know this for certain.

James, I was at wimbledon also in'79 & I think you are right Borg was 5'11" & I think McCenroe was marginally taller maybe 5'11.5.Official Djokovic 6'2" always looks equal in height to Murray unless Murray slouches,so I think Murray's official height is maybe 1/2" overestimated.I would agree Federer is slightly above 6'1",slightly taller then sampras 6'1". Just to add Tim henman was listed at 6'1" but always looked marginally taller than Federer or Sampras & I've seen him stood besides Becker at wimbledon commentaries, not much difference so I would put him at 6'1.5 6'2" perhaps

Sak, yeah they actually have talked a lot about this on the espn commentary this AO. Look at the top 4 who have dominated and been at the top of the field for so long. All between 184-189 cm.
I think there is more to it than the serve or power though, I mean that def plays a role but if you think about it there is something else I can't quite put my finger on. Players noticeably under 6'1 (I consider Nadal the minimum at 184) or noticeably above 6'2 (Murray is the max at 6'2.5) seem to just not look as perfect on court. I think especially now, tennis is a very 'athletic' sport. Of corse you see great athletes at any height, but all else being equal as they often are at the top of any sport, I think that a little above 6 foot is where you see the most all around athletic guys. Think Ronaldo, Theirry Henry etc.

I met Roger here in Melbourne Australia in 2009. I have been measured flatfoot in hospitals several times and am never under 184cms. Roger was noticeably taller than me. He is definately taller than the 185cms he is always listed at. he is no shorter than the 186cms he is given here. I question whether he is actually 187cms, which is edging close to 6'2. I have been looking at the Tennis bios, and it seems they never update the heights and weight after the player is about 18, and I am guessing the height is self-reported as Lleyton Hewitt is in no way 180cms. Funnily I saw 6'6 (possibly taller now) juan Martin del Potro still listed as 82kgs on the Aus Open Website. He has been updated to a more realistic 97kgs on the ATP site.
I met Roger here in Melbourne Australia in 2009. I have been measured flatfoot in hospitals several times and am never under 184cms. Roger was noticeably taller than me. He is definately taller than the 185cms he is always listed at. he is no shorter than the 186cms he is given here. I question whether he is actually 187cms, which is edging close to 6'2. Saw nadal practice at WTF, as I live in Somerset I went to watch his match last year. Believe he played Fish. I was 3 rows back from his chair, and I can tell you that he is not that imposing. FIsh is quite a bit broader than he is and a couple inches taller. I'd say 6 feet even is a good guess.

Shrimp, AND you gotta remember that Sampras is a notorious sloucher and he looks to be "at ease" whilst Fed appears to be at full height. I would go with a hefty 6' for Fed, but no more.

Some guys like Gasquet grossly exaggerate and some only exaggerate their height minimally like Nadal. But I am pretty sure Federer is smack down to the height he claims which is 6 foot 1.25 inches tall.

Djokovic was on a Conan Obrien show, and he appears the same height as Conan, who is 6'4 ; That being said, I think Djokovic is definitely good 6'2 or more and thus Federer has to be over 6'1 ;

all legit sites on Federer have listed as a shade over 6 foot 1, as in 6 foot 1.25 inches exactly. This I can testify to as I stood next to him at Indian Wells and I am the same height. He also looks broader in real life that you would think given that he looks so thin on TV.

I think he is very likely 6'0 as an evening height and the only other thing i can suggest is that he may be 184 due to stretching exercises that many athletes perform. in addition to him having a very strong back this may result in him losing less height due to more stress distributed through his back muscles and less compression of the intervertebral discs in the spine. This may also create a straighter spine. John Mcenroe claims spinal stretching exercises resulted in him gaining height but i'm not convinced this truly works, although it does at least seem plausible. However you wouldn't realistically gain more than 1cm though.

Germany's highest ranked player Philipp Kohlscreiber is listed as 5ft10, but I've stood right next to him at the 2010 Australian Open and he's 5ft9-5ft9.25. There's no doubt some players' listings are rounded up by a bit.

I saw federee this year at Indian Wells after practice and I was literally 3 feet from him. Only a fence seperated us and I am (just recently measured by doctor) 6'.75 barefoot and he was at LEAST 2 inches taller than I am. We both had tennis shoes so I figure if someone says 6' 2 inches for him it isnt that far off the mark

Putting Fish at 186 is very wrong. Fish has always looked a very strong 6'2'', if you didn't know he was 6'2'' I'd bet a lot of people would think he's around 6'4'', he just looks a lot taller and always has, even when he was carrying 30lbs more.

Like basketball their is a discrepancy between those measured barefoot and those in sneakers and those who round up or down but I'm pretty sure these players are measured by the LTA in the way the NBA also measures players.

How else would the LTA list them and settle on a formal height for them? Because one player says "I'm 6'1" and 187 pounds? There is inconsistency in tennis, basketball and other sports with listed heights. They most likely measure a lot in sneakers but some like Federer seem to be listed as barefoot but they do measure them all the same. In Spadea's case, he was likely measured 5'11.5" in sneakers and was rounded up. My point Rob is that he WAS measured.

Good examples Rob. I think cases like Spadea's are very often on Tour. Particularly with huge stars who want to gain more 'respect'.

Editor Rob a good example of big discrepancy was Vincent Spadea. He was listed 6ft by tennis associations (and still is) but he said he was 5ft 10.5 in an interview. Michael Chang got listed 5ft 9 and he said he was 5ft 9 in trainers.

I think roger is almost 6'1.25'(1.86m)based on his own website and the reallity!!!..novak djokovic is between 187-188cm

Federer looks close to 186cm. Not less than 185. To me Nadal looks anywhere from 182 to 184cm. Personally i think his actual minimum height may be 182cm however 183cm in truth is more likely. As far as i'm concerned he is 6ft no more, no less. It's important to remember that height isn't completely fixed anyway as everyone loses a couple of cm's from morning to evening ..possibly even a bit more (the more pressure exerted on your spine the more height you lose). Your height is the average of your maximum and minimum heights. But I like to go by the rule of taking lowest height (evening height) as true height.
