Dot and her husband, Jim, were talking about the area of Croydon, Surrey. Jim, played by John Bardon, said it’s very posh down there.

Don’t you bloody believe it! I used to pass through there on my way to the toy superstore and cut right through the place. The back is a right dump, with litter and broken furniture all over the place, but the shops are nice! 😸😁

Dot was keeping a budgie back in 2002. In her absence, the budgie dies. Jim goes to the pet shop to be told that it’s now an ex-budgie - very Monty Python! He replaces the bird with a male.

Then Dot comes home with a budgie of the opposite sex to keep the bird company. She doesn’t want any naughtiness in her house, but it’s a bit late for that! Now they’ll be loadsa budgies!

Dot has gone to Ethel’s grave for a chat with her (ahh!) regarding her marriage to Jim Branning. She says, “And then there’s that other thing I was never very keen on….”

Is it surprising when you were married to Charlie Cotton and your union with him resulted in Nick Cotton, murderer, thief, pimp etc etc? I think not! 🤮😫

Dot has just died in EastEnders, and the emotional residents are drinking a toast to the legendary lady.

She is sadly missed in real life as well.

Poor Dot was mugged at the end of today’s Classic EastEnders. 😤 How could anybody do that?

It was by two thugs who were waiting for her to return home.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if her sick, twisted son of hers put them up to it. What a loathsome piece of work he played. (Nick Cotton was played by John Altman).

On Classic EastEnders today, we saw the revered episode in which Dot helps Ethel Skinner end her life. It’s a very touching storyline, and my heart went out to Dot, played so beautifully by June.

It took all the love and bravery in the world to do what Dot did,
especially bearing in mind her religious beliefs. She knew Ethel was on her way out, and through her love and devotion to her friend, she went along with Ethel’s wishes. 🥲

I’m not sure I’d have had the same courage.

Ethel was played by Gretchen Franklin, whose peak height
- I’ve read - was 5ft1, but she was probably nearer to 4ft11 at the most in EastEnders.

Dot’s future husband, Jim Branning, has been escorted home by Gavin Richard’s character, as he’s as blotto as a skunk. He says of Dot, played by June, “She’s one hot little number, that Dorothy! She wants me; she needs me…..”

Ha ha! I can’t see Dot putting up with his drunken antics AT ALL!

Jim, played by John Bardon, is surprisingly tall.

RIP indeed, I must admit I thought of her as "The Keith Richards of the Soap World", given how many fags she'd smoked in her life, she lived an amazingly long time! 5 ft 5 in her prime perhaps. I see her maternal grandmother was Sephardic Jewish, Algeria and Italy, makes sense, I did think she looked as if she had some sort of Mediterranean in her.

5’5” at the absolute minimum and a life very long lived. I know for a fact that I won’t get anywhere near 95 years of age. June’s passing still comes as quite a shock to me though, I felt certain that she would make 96.

The lovely actress appeared in the 👃 nose-blowing scene in the movie ‘Bean’ and she played a grieving Mum in the ‘X’ rated biker film ‘Psychomania’.

What a girl!

My love and sympathy goes out to June’s five daughters, her grandchildren and everybody who was lucky enough to know her.

She was sometimes described as tall and thin on EastEnders even though June is average height. I think the programme makers definitely tried to convey a taller image for Dot's character since she never wore flat shoes and her hairstyle was quite high. Maybe the reason for exaggerating Dot's height in comparison to June's was to strongly contrast Dot with the sub-5ft character of Ethel.

Goodness grief - June is in 'The Sweeney' right now, being interviewed by Regan and Carter! She's sitting down and chain-smoking, the same as she does in 'EastEnders'. She'll have been somewhere in her forties at the time, and had pretty eyes, certainly the sort that would make it easy for her to corrupt a police officer into being lenient with her husband, who's not exactly on the right side of the law! 😉

Earlier today, I realized that I could send emojis from 'Mr Bean' and 'Blackadder', so I sent some to my boyfriend, to Nik and to my Dad! I can't take the credit for it though, because it was my boyfriend who sent me a Mr Bean picture and it really cheered me up!

I then went on to find an emoji of the famous 'nose-blowing scene' that I was harping on about earlier this year, all watched by the beady eye of one June Brown, who looked on in disgust!

I'd like to give June, hardworking soap star and intermittent film actress the following statistics:-

5ft5.75. Why? Because Nigel (Paul Bradley) described her as 'tall' and I don't think 5ft5 quite fits the bill! I'm assuming this to be her height in her absolute prime.

5ft4 for today.

While chatting to her friend Ethel in 'Classic EastEnders' today, Ethel came out rather defensively when accused of flirtatious behaviour, "..but I've known him since I was knee-high to a grasshopper!" June, or rather Dot, replied sarcastically, "Well you haven't grown much, have you?"

The lady who played Ethel, Gretchen Franklin, had a peak height of 5ft1 - or so I've read, but in 'EastEnders', I'm almost certain she was 4ft11. I remember Mark Fowler estimating her height once. Actress Gretchen appeared in an episode of 'Some Mothers Do 'ave 'em' and even in a very early 'Blackadder', when it went by the name 'THE Blackadder'. She played a Shakespearian-style crone! I think it might even have been the one which starred Peter Cook...🤔

@Sandy I misunderstood an article actually as I hadn't read it properly. There's nothing wrong with her as such, but because of the excessive drinking and smoking she's convinced she doesn't have long left and she's not going to give it up either. Both are very bad especially when paired together, so she's lucky to have lived as long as she has. All the best to her though and hopefully she'll live on for as long as possible because the soap wouldn't be the same without her.

I did hear that June was losing her eyesight, and that was sad enough, but I had no idea she was in any way ill. To see her chatting away on 'Hard to Please OAPs' the other evening, she was as cheerful and as funny as ever.

If Barbaras hair was flatter there would be 5 to 6 inches between them and June's heels look to give no more than 2 inches making her 5ft 6ish in them so i think 5ft 5 peak and 5ft 4 now looks a better guess unless Barbara is in kitten heels which is doubtful

June appeared in the 1997 movie 'Bean', with Rowan Atkinson, Peter MacNicol, Burt Reynolds and Sandra Oh. She was the receptionist and witnessed hilarious nose-blowing scene! She was sitting down, so we couldn't compare her height to Rowan's, but the scene took some beating in the funniness department; the look on her face was utter magic!

Sad to hear she may not have long to live. I've watched her for years and never paid attention to exactly how much she may have shrunk, though around an inch and a half is definitely believable.

YEEEAAAAAHHH! Thanks so much Rob! Well, there's a surprise - only 5ft3.5! Nigel's description of her threw me right off the scent, calling her 'tall', even though the chances are good that June was nearer to her original 5ft5 back then.

June starred as the Mum of one of the biker girls who, egged on by her boyfriend, takes her own life to become invincible, in the cult 1973 film 'Psychomania', which also stars Beryl Reid. Another famous film June was in is 'Sunday Bloody Sunday', alongside Glenda Jackson, a movie dating back even further - to 1971. She'll have been 44 in the Glenda Jackson film and 46 in 'Psychomania', and highly likely at her full height. I have a copy, so I can always check it out!

It's worth mentioning that June had 5 kids, all daughters I think, in the timespan of 5 years. Do you think, Rob, that such a feat could have encouraged height loss? It's something I haven't really thought about before, but it does deplete the body's resources....

Most famous for playing the long-suffering Dot Cotton/Branning in 'Eastenders' right from its beginning in February 1985, Dot is still in the series now at the age of 92. (She had just turned 58 when it started). Last night she was on a programme called 'Hard to Please OAPs', which was very funny indeed and fellow Soap Star Amanda Barrie and 'King of the Jungle 2018' Harry Redknapp were having a good moan as well.

Ah, she's on 'Classic EastEnders' right now! The year is 1988 - I checked yesterday - and she has just been talking to Bill Treacher's Arthur Fowler and is much the same height. I noticed how short he was in yesterday's episode,
in which Lou Beale died, and a high-heeled Pauline Fowler, played by the late Wendy Richard, looked positively taller than him.

Hmmm... I think the Dot that stands before me right this minute is 5ft5, but I will be giving her an optimum height of 5ft5.5 because she was 61 here. Her current height? 5ft3.5, possibly a fraction more.
