John is taken for shorter because his singing partner is so much taller. I mean, take a look at the average - just over 5ft3.25! 🙊

5'4.5 no way. I'd say 5'3" tops because Daryl always looked close to a foot taller and if he really was close to 5'5 and Daryl 6'1" you wouldn't see that. I think he's somewhere in the 5'2.5" to 5'3.5" range.

I love this guy but this listing is incorrect. Countless people who have met him have said that he was shorter than 5’4. He doesn’t even look 5’4, he has the proportions of a 5’2 or 5’3 guy. Just look at his limbs. Rob this one needs a downgrade.

I was thinking that voters have been a mean with John, but having just read Lauren's comment, I reckon there must be some truth in the low average. Everyone is saying how tall Daryl Hall is, but I can't see more than 6ft1. I had a home-compiled recording of 'Live Aid' and another track of theirs, a cover version of Mike Oldfield's 'Maneater'. The video was played so many times it needed repairing. The culprit was my Dad! (It featured lots of 60s and 70s tracks too.)

Anyway, in view of the aforementioned 'evidence', John is getting 5ft3. 🎶😮

I've talked to John face-to-face twice before Hall and Oates concerts and he was clearly at least 3 inches shorter than me, in his lifts. i'm 5'6" and I always wear flat shoes. So he is no more than 5'2" to 5'3". He's a very nice man, by the way.

The actual heights of Daryl Hall and John Oates is 6-1 and 5-3. If you look at pictures of them together and they look the same height is cos Oates is standing on something cos it looks weird when one towers over another. John has admit this in a interview!

If you look at the back of the reissued Voices cover, factoring in the way they are standing their differing footwear, Daryl Hall is a SOLID eleven inches taller than Oates...no question about it. Therefore, however tall you think Hall is, subtract eleven inches, and you have Oates. I see it as a 6'2" flat for Hall, 5'3" for Oates.

I remember watching him with his far taller singing partner Daryl Hall. Daryl must have taken it quite for granted that all eyes were on him, but I think John was just as good - and every bit as handsome! So there!
He gets a shortish 5ft4.5 from me; I knew a guy of 5ft4 and he was one of the quickest-witted people I've ever met! That made him attractive - AND he was ex-Navy, so well-travelled to boot!

I met him when he and Daryl played Bristol Town Hall and this guy was tiny. Id guess about 5-3 in socks. Not that it mattered much.

Funny story - ran into John Oates while skiing with buddies in Aspen. Had to take a "too-much-coffee" break at a mid-mountain ski lodge at Ajax one morning. Exchanged pleasantries about the weather and skiing. He was very gracious and pleasant. Next year, same lodge, same men's room, same time of day, ran into him again. He said: I see you guys are back this year.

Anyway, he is definitely on the shorter side but seemed to have no complex about it whatsoever. I am only 5'8" and tend to notice such things.

mmmm...actually looks two inches taller, so anonymous' point isn't valid. Known for wearing very high heeled boots, probably lifts, as well, especially when you're only 5'3".

He's 5' 4". I met him at Tower Records signing in NYC in '83. The guy was shorter than most of the teenager girls there.

You should see the heels Oates wear on the album sleve to H&O's "H2O" album. And the way his hair is all buffounted up. Obviously trying to look taller next to Darryl and the other bandmates in the photo. Glenn, I'm sure you have this LP and back me on it.

You people are obviously on crack. I met John during the Marigold Sky days and he is SO not under 5'6" to 5'7". Both Daryl and John are great looking up close and the height discrepancy does not seem so severe.
