Curiously, at the beginning of Carnal Knowledge (1971), Garfunkel looks down on Jack Nicholson as if he were several inches taller. However, throughout the movie Nicholson consistently slightly edges Garfunkel in all of their scenes together. Given that Nicholson is listed at 5ft 9.5, 5ft 9 for Garfunkel is very reasonable.
Curiously, at the beginning of Carnal Knowledge (1971), Garfunkel looks down on Jack Nicholson as if he were several inches taller. Lennon only edged Art at the Grammys by virtue of notable heel advantage. All things equal I see Art edging Lennon. 5’9” seems a bit too low, perhaps an overreaction to the true stature of Paul S. I think Art was more like 5’9 1/2 to 5’10”. Lennon I think was actually in the zone of 5’9” to 5’9 1/2” but was very fond of well heeled boots.

Interesting - I came here to Celeb Heights (my goto place for accurate celebrity heights) after reading an article on Garfunkel - he really does look quite tall in his younger days, but it's clear that he was average height and his build plus his partner made him seem tall. Very strange optical illusion.

In the 1960s he looked very tall because his hair was puffed up. His hair gave people the impression he was a 6 footer. His hair has become flatter through the years and so this will effect his height. I feel Art is 5'8 today, 5'9 to 5'10 in his prime.

My father met Art Garfunkel in Queens years ago when he briefly lived in New York and he said Art was at least a inch or two taller than him .My father was 5,9 according to his passport documents

Yes, he did come over as taller, but I think that had a great deal to do with his musical partner being 5ft2!

I'd say that Art today is between 5'9.25" and 5'9.5", and at his peak stood between 5'10.5" and 5'11" in bare feet, and 6'0" or slightly under in shoes.

I've had a few encounters with Garfunkel over the past fifteen years or so, most recently this fall. He was about 5'9" then (at 75). I'd guess he was likely 5'10" and change at best in his prime. I've seen reports citing him at 6' which I know is not true but I suspect those were likely a comparison to Simon's diminutive height.

This shows how widely we misjudge height based on false comparisons (assuming, incorrectly, that Paul Simon or Franco Columbu were, peak, five six or seven). By being so much shorter than that, they make Art and Arnold appear so much taller than they actually ever were. Art and Arnold should tithe their earnings in gratitude to their partners for making them seem something they are not.
