He looked the definition of average for his generation which in America was only about an inch shorter than the present average (For white males) I give him a touch over 5'9. I recently saw him in Poor Devil an apparently unreleased pilot with Sammy Davis which is on youtube and seemed to have a lot of potential with some tweaking and if Christopher Lee had continued in his role as Lucifer. Interestingly, Lee did not look his usual 6'5 in this one, he looked a flat 6'4 if not a bit less, but this is the only film I've seen of his in his youth or middle aged where he looked that short so I put it down to Hollywood adjusting his height because of shorter costars.

I have just commented on his helper in 'Quincy', Robert Ito, so it makes sense to find Quincy himself!
I always had a soft spot for this actor; I have seen him popping up in surprisingly many films as well, but 'Quincy' was most definitely what made me take notice of Jack.
In reference to an observation made by one David, dating right back to 27th July 2011, I agree that he does appear 'hunched over' a great deal in 'Quincy', but then he is in the throws of studying, being an M.E.! However, I agree with that and really do think that it can make him look a trifle shorter! With that in mind, I am going to add three-quarters-of-an-inch to his 5ft9, as written here. I did perceive him as taller, I must say!

@Rob
Please update as he's passed away . "Nowadays " makes it sound like he's still living.

I've noticed in Quincy ME, he is shrugged over a lot, his head is always bowed down over his shoulders.

I met him roughly 10 yrs. ago. At the time I was 5'8.5". We was a very nice man, and very gracious about being invited on a morning show I was involved in at the time. I was about 2" taller than he was. I give him about 5'6.5" back in the late 90s.

5' 9" at Belmont Park in '74. Looked like a sick horse player, but then I was also, underage.

I saw Tony Randall going way back and he was never more than 5'8".

I met both.I think that its a possibility in their youth,it was 5-9 for Randall and 5-10 for Klugman.on THE ODD COUPLE it was mentioned as well.and they were both taller than me by an inch.then again when I was 18,I was 5-7,so maybe Im wrong.but klugman was 5-8 through the years with a hell of a slouch.

5'9" is right on the money. I saw him many times on the Universal lot back when he was starring in Quincy. His Odd Couple co-star, Tony Randall was 5'8". Back then Klugman's publicity listed him at 6'.
