American actor best remembered for roles in films such as The Odd Couple, Barefoot in the Park, Cracking Up, The Front Page, Wheels on Meals, The Way We Were, I Love You Alice B. Toklas, The War Between Men and Women and The Yakuza. On TV he appeared in The Good Guys, Strike Force, The Golden Girls and Big John, Little John. A 1996 NY Daily News described him as a "6-foot-5 actor".

Looks between 2 and 3 inches taller than Walter Matthau in California Suite. You could argue 195cm but just about 6'5.

Familar face but wasn't truly aware he was this tall...I've seen many of those films but not in several years.

Herb was in the pilot of "McMillan and Wife" (1971) and seemed to be the same height then as 6' 5" Rock Hudson. In "The Golden Girls" (mid to late 1980's) Herb was in his late 50's and looked closer to 6' 4". In the early 1990's (aged in his early 60's) he did a "Murder She Wrote" with Angela and looked a maximum 6' 3.5". A great and versatile comic actor who never used his huge size to intimidate other characters.

Arch, I think you could argue a strong 6ft5 (i.e. 196-197cm) in The Odd Couple. Matthau was definitely not under 6ft2 upstraight.

He doesn't get much screen time in The Odd Couple but there's a scene where he's headed out of the door and briefly you see him with Matthau and he really looks about 4 inches taller. Matthau slouched a lot though and could look easily an inch shorter at time but when stood his best I think he really was between 6'2 and 6'3".

Cheers Rob, this guy was definitely a legit 6'5, he made Matthau look 6'1 range in The Odd Couple! He reminds me of Walter Gotell.
