Rob, maybe Stack could have actually been more 181-182 range? Google lists him as 181.
I do not have a problem with a flat 5'8" for Gabin though, especially for his younger years. He was similar in height to you, Rob!
Sinclair said on 11/Jun/22
Rob, how tall does Jean Gabin look in these photos, considering Stack was six feet?

I looked at a couple more and he still seemed 5ft 8 range, even a bit taller in some.

Decent 6ft peak, no less possibly a bit over even

I met him at a celebrity function in 1985 in Houston, TX. I'm 5'8" tall. His eyes were even with mine. He was about my height. As you age you can lose some height, but he was in good physical condition, So, I doubt he could've lost more than an inch over the years. We had a brief but great conversation about the 2nd Amendment and his support of the NRA. He was a world champion shotgunner! Having served in law enforcement, previously, I was quite adept at observing height and weight.

Really could pull off 6 ft with ease, but if he was looking nearer 5'10 in that clip not impossible he was a lift wearer. Robert Taylor undoubtedly did and could pass for 182 on screen but probablyt nearer 5 ft 10. I'll see some more Stack films when I can and see if I spot anything!!

Mr. Google seems to think that Stack was five foot eleven. (Of course Google thinks quite a few things that are questionable, but this one might be accurate.)
Ian C. said on 6/Feb/18
I am coming around to the position that Stack was six feet tall because there is an episode of The Untouchables with Jack Lord, and he and Stack were about the same height. But The Untouchables had a very tall cast. There are scenes in that show where Stack is standing with three other men, and they are all taller he is.
Ian C. said on 1/Feb/18
I've been watching Stack in The Untouchables today, and he doesn't look as if he's six feet tall. He looks about five foot ten at most. He looks athletic and he has an authoritative manner, which might give people the impression that he was taller than he was.

I believe Stack was 5'10''. Rock Hudson towered over him in The Tarnished Angels. In the same movie Stack was considerably shorter than 6'2'' Jack Carson.
Arch Stanton said on 9/Sep/15
Rob can you mention that his character claimed 170 pounds in 1948 in the film A Date with Judy?
Arch Stanton said on 9/Sep/15
Thanks for the upgrade Rob, looks more accurate now, he looks this with Rock Hudson.
Editor Rob
I think it is probably fairer.
Arch Stanton said on 30/Jun/15
Also you might add he claimed 170 pounds in 1948 in the film A Date with Judy.
Arch Stanton said on 30/Jun/15
Rob can you add a photo? Still not buyin the full 6'? See the pic on John Wayne's page! I honestly think a flat 6' would be OK for him Rob, 6'1 in shoes sounds about right. There is a chance of 182 though.

6' flat seems right for Stack. He had a big presence on screen with his commanding voice and looks.
Arch Stanton said on 8/Dec/14
I think this was the very least he could have been yeah. I think a flat 6' would generally fit better.
Mike said on 7/Dec/14
He looks more like 6'-6'1'' tall.
Arch Stanton said on 3/Jun/14
Rob can you add "for roles in films like" before Written on the Wind! Cheers
Arch Stanton said on 2/Jun/14
Rob can you also add Written on the Wind, The Tarnished Angels, To Be or Not to Be, A Date with Judy, The High and the Mighty, The Gift of Love and John Paul Jones? I'd say best remembered as the presenter for Unsolved Mysteries and the TV series The Untouchables first, then the films.
Arch Stanton said on 14/May/14
Rob did you check out the video? Did you see the part I said about with Rock Hudson looking huge from that angle?
Editor Rob
yes, in some circumstances he could look quite intimidating. Stack has been called as tall as 6ft 1 before! Although that would seem a stretch.
Arch Stanton said on 10/May/14
On a height note, look how massive Rock Hudson looks at 1:22:25 in that film from that low camera angle!!
Arch Stanton said on 10/May/14
Pause again at 30:22. Actually looks more 6'1" there!
Arch Stanton said on 10/May/14
Rob I think Niven and Stack need a swap in heights LOL. He looks very close to 6 ft next to Rock Hudson in Written on the Wind too. Is there a chance of an upgrade to 5'11.5 (182cm)?
Click continue to file and then click the arrowed circle on the picture and it should start to play, just delete the pop up ad. See 18 minutes range for instance. He's looking nearer 5 than 6 inches shorter than Hudson I think. I think 182-3 would be a better shout than 181.
Arch Stanton said on 25/Feb/14
Didn't look under 6 ft peak Rob, maybe it's time for an upgrade. A flat 6' is fair I think.
Michael Voisinet said on 19/Sep/13
I say that Robert Stack was about 6'1'' tall. He was 4'' shorter than Herb Edelman on Strike Force who was 6'5.
Sam said on 8/Nov/12
Rob, was Robert Stack measured or is this your estimation? Most listing say 6 feet, but this is a pretty precise height.
Editor Rob
been so long since adding I can't remember if I read it or not!
Patricia said on 13/Aug/11
I still watch Robert Stack on the Untoucnables. I thought he was so handsome. And so sexy. And a great actor. Rest in peace.
Shadow2 said on 18/Dec/10
Stack was 6' earlier in his career, which began about 1939. He was still this height when he did the "Untouchables" and "Name of the Game" on TV. In his comedy roles, late in his career, he was just under the 6' mark. A fine talent, and much loved by his peers in show business.
boswell said on 22/May/09
I saw him in person on a television shoot in Toronto toward the end of his career. He was smaller than I expected. I know he is under 6' tall but don't feel confident to guess his exact height. A complete professional.
thekiddd said on 8/Jul/08
Definitely not 6'1". Robert Stack is 5'11. But he is really really awsome.
Frank2 said on 28/Feb/06
When Bob was young he stood about six feet even. I met him way back in the early 1970's and he was about an inch taller than me. He was one of the nicest people in Hollywood.
