Looks a tall guy in the first picture, can pass for 6’1

His son was at least 6ft4
Abdul177cm said on 10/Jun/22
He could be near 185 cm
Henry97 said on 12/Feb/22
You think 5’11.5-11.75” was fine when he was involved in the IIWW?
Editor Rob
If measured he might have fallen just shy of 6ft.
Henry97 said on 9/Feb/22
Rob you think during the last decade of his presidency he might have lost a bit? Maybe was a weak 6-footer?
Editor Rob
Yeah, in that last period he likely lost more height.
David Tang said on 11/Aug/21
6'1.
Slim 6'1.5 said on 13/May/21
184.5 could be possible
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 10/May/21
I think a weak 6ft1 is debatable.

Holy , I really find myself laughing really hard at the "Fitness Q&A" of FDR. I would really have a hard time deciding whether or not I should draw a line under the words "Dumb" or "Insane" in my case.
Editor Rob
Who is going to admit to being insane on a form like that!
Mike Sui said on 2/Feb/21
He looks VERY 180cms to me, i don't know why, it's just a stomach hunch.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was born 139 years ago today.

He lived 63 very productive years.

RIP Franklin πŸ•―οΈ

@Rob: Interesting as that's basically consistent with the college measurement though I'd probably round down to more 5'8.75" by his time in office. There are photos with Herbert Hoover and Coolidge didn't look shorter than that range, iirc.
Rising174cm said on 22/Jan/21
@Rob: Sure, the bio is simply called Coolidge by Amity Shlaes. I still have the book, but will have to dig up the page number.
Editor Rob
I saw one biography the author called him 5ft 9.
Rising174cm said on 21/Jan/21
I always focused more on how they attempted to make it appear that he could walk so I didn't think of his height as much, but he did appear pretty big.

Btw, Rob, if you want to add Calvin Coolidge, he was measured 5'8.9" and 119.5 pounds in college according to one bio I read. Obviously much heavier than that in office.
Editor Rob
if you can ever remember a bio it was mentioned that would be interesting to read, I've never seen it before.
Allie said on 20/Jan/21
@Rob - She did? I didn't know that. I saw 5'10 somewhere originally before seeing 5'11 everywhere so I wasn't sure.

Do you thinks he was the full 5'11 Rob?
Editor Rob
In her earlier years she looked quite tall, but had shrunk a few inches I felt. Even in the early 60's her passport had 5'11".

One of their sons was measured just over 6ft 3.

6’1.5” range straight out of bed πŸ‘
Allie said on 16/Jan/21
This seems correct. The 6'1.5 claim was probably in shoes.

I know his wife Eleanor is now described as being 5'11, but I remembered seeing old interviews/websites say she was 5'10.
Editor Rob
his wife did put 5ft 11 on her passport
slim 6'1 said on 15/Jan/21
185 is pushing it but 184.5 seems arguable
ChaosControl 6'2.5 said on 14/Jan/21
I know it’s been made clear he was 6’0.5, but could he get 6’0.75 or even 185cm if he measured around midday
Honest5'11" said on 14/Jan/21
Sounds about right. The 6'1.5" figure could be the height with standard shoes.
5'10 Dude said on 13/Jan/21
I have no reason to disagree with this listing. FDR was a tall man for his time. I don't mean to be annoying, but I would be interested in a page for President Eisenhower and a page for President Ford.
Kylo said on 13/Jan/21
Harry Truman would be a good add. I think off the top of my head he was the last below average height US president
Johnny 181-182 cm said on 12/Jan/21
@Rob can you make a page for Eisenhower?
The5'11Dude said on 12/Jan/21
Google lists his height as 6'2, but I think this is more believable. Rob, do you think he could have been a flat 6'1 out of bed?
Editor Rob
I'm sure he may have been 6ft 1.25 out of bed.
grizz said on 12/Jan/21
@Rob, if that's his actual height, how tall was his wife? Was she really 5'11 as she claimed?
Editor Rob
she did claim it, but could have lost height by 40's and definitely in 50's.
Progking184 said on 12/Jan/21
Somewhere 6'0.25-6'0.5, probably a good 6'0.5 in the afternoon.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 12/Jan/21
I thought the 6ft1Β½ was legit and that was usually rounded to 6ft2 which is what he was mainly described as...shocked to see this
Mickie said on 12/Jan/21
I remember hearing he was 6'2" (probably a rounded up shoe height) but this makes sense.
Miss Sandy Cowell said on 12/Jan/21
Franklin spent 12 years as the American President, his term ending when he died of a cerebral haemorrhage. The poor guy was only 63, and if this doesn't prove how demanding such a high up position is, then nothing does. 😒

He left behind six children.

@ MrTBlack - Yes, I agree that the 6ft1.5 was his 'in shoes measurement'. I don't think that those days people were quite so 'spot-on' with their heights, and besides, people will have viewed him in his shoes! πŸ˜‰

Mr Roosevelt became President on the 4th March 1933 and his term lasted until the day he died.

He gets 6ft0.5. and my greatest respect.

My original guess for FDR would have been closer to 6ft2, but this seems believable.
MrTBlack said on 11/Jan/21
I’m assuming the 6’1.5” measurement was in shoes?
Editor Rob
I believe he could have got that, a bit like how Nixon had a 5ft 11.5 description...yet got measured 5ft 10.5 years before taking up Presidency.
Hyper said on 11/Jan/21
In that time, he would’ve been regarded as β€˜very tall.’

Maybe an exaggeration.
slim 6'1 said on 11/Jan/21
I’d say within the 184cm zone
