In the book 'The Star Machine' by Jeanine Basinger, the author writes of a young Eleanor Powell:"The MGM experts coolly assessed her. She was very tall by the star standards of the day, a full five foot six."

It's laughable that people think Astaire was 5'7". He looked 5'9" ish I've seen him in. Eleanor looked between 5'52 and 5'6" in comparison.

I'm not super-familiar with her work but she was a cutie

Again kudos to you Rob for adding this, it's great to see. Spot on I'd say, she looked 3.5-4 inches shorter than Astaire in the Broad Melody of 1940, both in flats.
