I saw him in an old episode of the Avengers recently and he looked a good 2 inches shorter than 182cm Patrick Macnee so I think near 177cm peak is about right.

have he only lost 3,5-4 cm ? He is 85 years old nad always overweight. I think he have been very lucky. i guess its more average to have lost maybe 6 cm by then. COuld he have been 5´10 when he was young if he still i s5´8? I Barely know who he is.

I caught Brian playing a part in 'The Sweeney' the other day. Just as I was wondering if he was a regular cast member, my question was answered. He was shot! 😭

Doubtless at his peak height then, Brian gets 5ft9.75. Nowadays, I'd say he's 5ft8.25.

Ooh! It's guessing time again, so today I'll give Big Brian with the Big Booming Voice* 5ft9.75 for his peak and 5ft8.25 for today's height. Yes, I've gone up for him by a quarter of an inch in each case.

* Big Booming Voice was used by Edmund Blackadder when he was trying to pump information out of a woman as regards the appearance of her executed husband. (Blackadder the Second, episode 'Head').

I met Brian in a train a couple of years ago. It was Summer and I was in a vest as it was scorching hot. I am a dedicated weight trainer, 6ft tall and a solid 16 stone. Well Brian was shorter than me but was huge in width. He was in a short sleeve shirt and his biceps were enormous. We talked about bodybuilding, boxing and we had a few arm wrestles. He was extremely strong and we shared a 2-2 draw, though in fairness I did let him win a couple of bouts haha!
Strong fella, booming voice and I would estimate around a comfortable 5’8.5. ,

While I was trying to find out the height of a cast member of 'Z Cars' in order to compare him to Patsy Byrne, who was in an episode called 'Nuisance', I discovered that an extremely young-looking Brian Blessed was also in the series! Z Cars was from the 60's and early 70's.

Brian didn't look even remotely undersized in 'The Black Adder', in which he played Richard the FOURTH! His favourite son, played by Robert East, seemed that bit taller than Rowan Atkinson, the son he thought so little of that he could never get his name right! Brian himself, the great bellower, looked and indeed was, young enough to be his full 5ft9.5.

So that's what the fictitious king gets from me - 5ft9.5 peak, 5ft8 now.

Certainly, many voices are smaller in shorter people and vice versa. If that wasn't the case, people wouldn't be so surprised when a short person has a deep voice and a tall woman squeaks like a child!

I vote for Brian being 5ft9.25 peak and 5ft8 now!

Brian is quite simply much bigger than his actual height! Although I am nowhere near as familiar with the first 'Blackadder' series as I am with the other three, and the 'specials', Brian stars in the first, and to look at him without the obstacle of having him stand alongside someone else, he does give the impression, voice-wise and stature-wise, of a much taller person. I had to come along to Celebheights before I found out the truth!

Brian gets 5ft8 for today's height and 5ft9.5 for his peak. He could have fooled me! What am I saying? He did!

He looks 174cm in that image. 7 years on he could have easily dropped another cm considering his age (he will be rapidly losing height now), so maybe closer to 5'8'' flat now. Could have been 176-177cm at peak though.

I think he must just have a huge bone structure. I remember him saying his chest is 50-something inches around. When you see him on those panel shows his shoulders are twice as broad as everyone else's.

I encountered Brian at Waterloo train station a few years back. I would say a weak 5'9", the most imposing thing about him (and this has a big effect on judging his height)is that he appears almost as wide as he is tall!

Actually Blessed was too big when he played his most famous role - Augustus in I Claudius. I presume everyone here realizes that Octavian the great nephew of Julius Caesar wore lifts. Julius Caesar was tall but Octaivian (later Augustus) was short - possibly 5'4" or even 5'2". He was Caesar's adopted son but in the power struggle after the assasination he had to campaign for public acceptance. He looked vaguely like Julius but was much shorter.

When you consider that Augustus was arguably the most significant political leader in world history this was maybe the first real Celebrity Height phenomenon.
