Anna came from a tall family. I’m watching the Inspector Morse episode ‘Happy Families’ and recently, Caroline Munro showed one of my favourite ghost stories called ‘Haunted’, with Kate Beckinsale as the lead actress.

Anna looked 5ft6 in both.

My face lit up this morning when I saw that Anna Massey was among the cast members at the beginning of the Poirot episode 'Clocks', ⏱️⏰ which I wrote about in July, 2020. She's been given a serious role, having lost her sons in the First World War. I've noticed that Anna was often given the more forlorn parts, which she acted so very convincingly.

⭐ Anna starred alongside Elijah Wood in a film called 'The Oxford Murders'. It would be well worth digging out my copy and comparing Anna with Elijah.

I've found the episode of 'Poirot' which stars Anna Massey. It's called 'Clocks' and Anna is acting in her usual cold-hearted manner. A corpse has been found in her house and she says to Phil Daniels' detective, "When you've seen as many dead men as I have, you'll come to realize that there's nothing to be afraid of," she says, presumably referring back to the First World War.

Anna doesn't have to look up to 5ft7.5 Phil Daniels, so she may be in some kind of shoe with a heel. She'd kept her height well. It's for episodes like this one which makes it worthwhile to look in on 'Poirot' from time to time. There's a cat lady in this episode as well. Her lounge looks reminiscent of mine!

I couldn't believe my eyes today when I saw Anna in an episode of 'The Darling Buds of May'. I've never seen her so happy and cheerful! 😁😂😆

@ Rob - Well, that is a staggering difference between brothers, reminding me of Arnie and Danny playing unidentical twins in the movie 'Twins'! Well not quite that much, but this is real life!!!!

Anna's and brother Daniel's mother was an actress, so it just may be possible to find out her height! That might appease my enquiry as to the huge height difference between Anna and Daniel, who, as you know, I watched on TV together at 2.30am the other morning, to discover that the difference was 9 whole inches! The film was 'The Vault of Horror' and they played brother and sister in that. Daniel slew his sister, who turned out to be a laughing vampire... 🦇

Enormous height differences between siblings of the opposite sex is commonplace enough (look at Scarlett Johansson and her twin brother - a foot!), but it still makes us sit up and take notice!😉

Right now, I am about as happy as I've ever been to have had a request granted, so thank you so much Rob! You have made my weekend, and tonight I feel I simply have to celebrate with something of hers, and I might choose the 'Inspector Morse' episode that Anna is in, called sarcastically 'Happy Families'. Anna plays a well-to-do lady, but under the façade of a beautiful home and financial security lies a very unhappy woman, played brilliantly by a cold and emotionless Anna. One of her sons is the 6ft2.5/3 or so Martin Clunes, though the other one is considerably shorter. When I first saw it, which must have been around two-and-a-half decades before I discovered Celebheights, I was obviously already height-minded, and I thought, "This lady has such a massive son, and they're hardly going to give that part to a 5ft woman, so how tall is she?"

Of course, those were the days when we had to study books and magazines in order to find out heights, and even then it would often be a fruitless mission. There were no internet facilities incorporated into a telephone; if anyone had told me back then what the future holds, I would have thought that if this would indeed one day be the case, it would be available only to the more well-off among us. Heights had to be guessed at, simply by comparisons to the actors whose heights you knew. If you were lucky, you might find out your favourite actor's height in a film review magazine, or in a newspaper.

One outstanding film for checking Anna's height was the creepy ghost tale 'Haunted', in which Anna stars with 5ft7 Kate Beckinsale, and you can see that the difference isn't overly noticeable, if at all. Another good one is 'The Oxford Murders', where she is starring with Elijah Wood, but I am going to have to dig my copy out before I can report back as to which scenes are the best, because I don't know the film as well as I ought to!

Anna was extremely slender when she made 'Peeping Tom' back in 1960, a film which came out to a huge outcry as being about as sick as a film can get! It's about a horrifically disturbed young man, who films the fear on the faces of the women he murders. He is a victim of mental abuse at the hands of his father. He falls in love with Anna's character, whose innocence acts as a safety barrier for her. When I saw it first, my attention was drawn to that weeny waistline of hers, but she was as tall as many a model of yesteryear! Wasn't Twiggy 5ft6?

That's what the exquisite Anna gets from me this evening. The other night, I saw her star with her 6ft3 brother Daniel in 'The Vault of Horror', and the 9" difference looked exactly the same as that of a guy I used to hang out with who was 9" taller than me; I used to compare us in shop windows when hiking round London at night!

Thanks again Rob! Anna is welcomed with open arms by me!
