I just read under the description of Zooey Deschanel that she is a TV actress. How about all the films she's made? If M Night Shyamalan thought she was good enough to play a major part in his terrific film 'The Happening', I think that speaks volumes! Other films of hers include 'Almost Famous' and 'Elf'.

In the episode where Jess and Nick are pretending to be Michael Keaton aka Batman, Nick says Jess is 5'4. Why would they say she is smaller than she actually is on the show when we know everyone looks taller on tv? I think she's 5'4 and possibly smaller than that.

I met her once and she was in flats and was about an inch taller than me and I am 5'4. I would say 5'5 is about right. She could be on the taller side of 5'4 but I'd say that's a stetch. She's not super tall but I'd say average height.

I enjoyed Zooey's performance in 'The Happening' - a truly original idea from the mind of M.Night Shyamalan. I thought she was about that height as well, or perhaps half an inch taller at 5ft5.5.
Who can forget eyes as blue as that? My boyfriend didn't like them and we almost had a ding-dong about it!

She is 5'6. You can see in one episode of new girl when Jess stands next to the girl nick is with (the red head he met in college) and she is at least 2 inches taller then her and the red head chick was 5'4, and they were both in their pajamas and not wearing shoes. Also Ally the police officer, she is 5'4 and Zooey is taller then her. And Hannah Simone is 5'7, one inch taller then Jess. And she would have a huge diffrence between her and her sister because Emily is 5'9.

My sister met Zooey last summer and had a picture taken with her. Both her and my sister were wearing flats and were roughly the same height. My sister was measured at her high school grad the year before at 5'2 without shoes. Zooey cannot be any taller than 5'3 and a half MAX (but I'd wager 5'3 on the dot).They had it close to right on the show (5'4). I'll see if I can get a copy of the picture for proof.

@James: Johnson, Greenfield and Morris might actually all be more or less 175 cm. Not sure Jake is the tallest though. I'd say neither is under 174 cm or over 176 cm.

Jake Johnson who plays Nick in New Girl barley looks 5ft 9 next to 5ft 7 Olivia Wilde in Drinking Buddies. At best he is 175 flat which makes Greenfield 173 and Morris 174/5. Also means Deschanel is no more than 5ft 4 and Hannah Simmone 5ft 5/6

@linke: None of the New Girl guys would measure 5'10. Jake Johnson, Lorne Morris and Max Greenfield look about the same, rougly 5'9. Greenfield barely edges them both on the show most of the time, and he looked at least 3 inches shorter than Chris Pine in a pic I posted on the height request page. The tallest of them would be 5'9.5 at the absolute most.

Zooey can look in the 163-165 cm range.

Talented actress, but much like Vincent Gallo, I prefer her work in music. Just saw her in an awesome early '60s retro music video for She & Him's "Don't Look Back." I was surprised at how short she was, especially when I think of how tall her sister Emily is. 5'5" I could buy, but I'm thinking that 5'4" is more likely. In any event, she's a very attractive woman--She & Him has a great vintage pop sound.

I live in Seattle and have stood next to her twice (grocery store/waiting for a table at a restaurant). I am 5 ft 6 in and she seemed about 2 inches shorter than me. She is definitely not 5'6 like "500 Days of Summer" claims. I think 5'3 or 5'4 seems about right.

5' 5.5'' at least, seems right for Zooey. She tends to go out with shorter than average guys between 5' 6'' and 5' 8'', and doesn't wear high heels because of this. Yet she still appears as tall as her boyfriends in most photos.

Also, considering that guys like Jason probably wear lifts or shoes that give them a boost, she may be closer to 5' 6''.

She's in a very slight heel and is still shorter than him. Check out his height listing on this site. Few people debate that he is not very tall.

Also, there's a still from The Happening where she is next to a railing in flats (end of the movie). My wife is 5' 3.75", stood in the same place and I took a pic. Comparing the two, they look the same height.
