American actor, best remembered for playing The Grandfather in TV series The Waltons. In film he appeared in Jeremiah Johnson, In Cold Blood, Executive Action, Winchester '73, Broken Arrow, Seconds, The President's Analyst and Bandolero! In a 1981 book it mentioned how "as a young man Geer was very tall (over 6 feet two inches) and slim".

Watch the 1950 motion picture Winchester73 as Geer is surprisingly nearly the same height as 6’31/2” Jimmy Stewart. Geer is taller than Millard Mitchell whose height is 6’2” and appeared just the slightest bit taller than 6’3” Gregory Peck in Gunfighter. Geer was probably taller than 6’2” nearly 6’2 3/4” similar to Randolph Scott and Fred McMuary, Joel Mcrae, Cesar Romero, Charelton Heston. All similar in height.

Rob, how tall do you think Ralph Waite was?
He's listed 6ft on the web and he always looked close to 2in shorter than this guy on The Waltons.
Editor Rob
last time I seen Ralph was on NCIS, not long before he passed...he seemed more 5ft 9...3 inch loss I am not sure about, but maybe 5ft 11 for him.

Rob, is it safe to say that he was probably a bit less than this by the time of The Waltons?
Editor Rob
he had a decent enough posture, but probably lost a bit.

@Christian: rampage is correct. People underestimate almost any height because so many guys who are maybe 6'0" 6'1 even saw a 5'11 guy claim 6'2" before. It's gotten people confused so what Rampage is saying a guy who is legitimately 6'1.75-6'2.25 at their lowest is often viewed 6'3-6'4 by some. Whereas you yourself mentioned before you're viewed by some as 6'7" sometimes when you're really for all intents a strong 6'5".

Some underestimate how tall a real 6ft2 guy is...especially back in the day it would have been viewed as very tall

6ft2 is considered an ideal height by many men in the West. So I doubt many people would underestimate it.

Not a giant, but a very large guy, both in proportions and stature. A strong 6' 2.5" for me. Not the full 6' 3" though.

I wouldn't consider 6'2" as very tall. It's just tall range. Very tall would be 6'3"+ minimum

Nice add...looked like a big tall guy on The Waltons

Good addition really, one of the types I always ask for, those familiar faces who turn up in a lot of notable films. The site is much better off having them!

Rob, can you add TV series Bewitched and Medical Center and films Jeremiah Johnson, Salt of the Earth, In Cold Blood, Seconds, The President's Analyst, Winchester '73, Bandolero!, the Reivers and Piece of Dreams? 6'2.25 is a reasonable shout.
