If he lost anything it should be his downplay lie on 1992 claiming 6'4 1/2 and a peak 6'5 although not everyone will agree with it but i still felt he was an atual 6'5 peak.
Arch Stanton said on 2/Aug/20
Now a guy like Robbins CLEARLY looks roughly a legit 6 ft 5 in photos and on screen. Yet I keep seeing 6 ft 4 or 5 listings for a lot of newer actors and some of them look nowhere near as tall as him proportionally in photos!
Canson said on 1/Aug/20
@Cmillz: Disagree. Bobby’s is at least respectable for a current estimate as Robbins May be closer to 6’4” today. But 6’7” is plain ridiculous after the man claimed 6’5 and 6’4.5 and he was shorter than Stern
Cath said on 29/Jul/20
Rob,
Do you think it's time to give Robbins the full 6'5?
Editor Rob
Many would argue he is that mark and the time he claimed 6ft 4.5 was a round down.

Bobbyh’s 6’3.75 estimate for Robbins is as ridiculous as Danimal’s 6’7 estimate tbh.

Stern would edge out Robbins, but again, I’m of the belief that Stern was 6’5.5” in his prime. Robbins wasn’t quite that tall.

Tall Sam said on 15/Jun/20
I think the difference could be 9-10 inches between Robbins and Newman, in person (on stage) I thought Newman in old age still looked about 5'8". I think with Sidney Poitier when they were both young, Newman could look to be at most a weak 5'9".
Hong said on 15/Jun/20
@AlexV(5ft10) I think 6ft5 is reasonable for Tim's height,he always looked it too me.Rob why not just give him the extra bit and make it an even 6ft5?

One thing is for sure... Robbins is taller than D'Onofrio even with the cowboys boots... 197cm for Robbins, 194-195cm for D'Onofrio.
Plus, the mugshot scene, Tim is indeed the 6'5.5" in flat shoes...
Tim Robbins: 196cm morning, 195cm regular, 194cm afternoon;
D'Onofrio: 193cm morning, 192cm regular, 191cm afternoon.

D'onofrio at 6ft3.5 + cowboy boots=around 6ft4.75 depending on how high the heel.If for argument sake D'onofrio was 6ft4.75 including the boots, that would mean that given Robbins is wearing a dress shoe of about an inch, and Robbins looks close to 2 inches taller, that would put Robbins at a bit over 6ft5 in comparison,if both guys were barefoot.I Know you can't see their footwear in the pic but if you see the movie you can.

Click Here @OriginalAnon I have to agree with you on the point of Robbins compared with Jeff Bridge. At the time of that movie Bridges was around 49 or 50 years old,Robbins 40-41 years old,I don't think Bridges would have shrank much if at all.Bridges at say 6ft1? would put Robbins in comparison a comfortable 6ft5,because to me Robbins looked 4inches taller in that movie,"without breaking a Sweat".It's 6ft5 peak Robbins for me, and maybe a bit of change too?

Let me put it this way. IMO a peak Robbins gave off an even taller impression than
Michael Jordan, who happens to be somewhere in the 6’4.5-6’4.75 range.
cmillz said on 4/Jun/20
@Christian
Doesn’t it seem like Robbins would measure taller on a stadiometer? Even now, he seems to give off a more towering presence than Vaughn when standing around others, and he honestly just looks taller too. Robbins is a strange one for sure, it’s hard to see him at only 6’4.5” in the 90s.

Rob,
why not give Tim the full 6'5? Think he was at least that and the people have spoken.

Christian 6'5 3/8" said on 24/May/20
@cmillz
Maybe 6'4.75" for Vaughn.
Canson said on 23/May/20
@Dguit and Cmillz: the highest I can buy for him assuming we are talking afternoon heights is what Rob lists him here. I doubt he’s as high as 6’5” flat at that stage. Now 6’5.5 out of bed is possible but my best guess is 6’5.25-.5 out of bed and 6’4.5-.75 range afternoon. Vaughn May be much of the same 195cm max in his prime not 6’5”. A real 6’5” prime was Peter Hermann, John Cleese, Tiny Lister, or Hulk Hogan who I thought may have even been a hair over but with Sid’s admission he was only 6’6” peak im hard pressed for over 6’5” for Hogan now.
OriginalAnon said on 23/May/20
I always thought that this guy was at least 6'5''.
Rob, you have Jeff Bridges listed at 184cm currently and almost 187cm peak. Have you seen Arlington Road? In that film Tim Robbins absolutely towered over Jeff Bridges. Although it is one of my favourite films, I can't remember if there were many instances where you could see the guys without angles playing their part. If a person did not have a clue about either height of each man, one could quite easily think that Jeff Bridges was a 5'11'' guy, or something, due to Robbins making him look so small. There can't have only been a 3 inch difference there.
If you have not seen the film, I'd highly recommend it.
Editor Rob
Yes I've seen and would recommend the film, it did look near 4 inches at times.

Alex V. said on 5/May/20
Hi there,
Sometimes pictures can't help, maybe is something to do with angles, slouching, light and so on...
A friend of mine is like 2cm shorter than me, I am 5'10,5'', however we took a photo where the difference seems to be like 5cm which is not the truth.
Plus, another fellow that I know is always slouching and seems to be a 6'3'' guy but as soon as he brings his real height, 196cm; with footwear and measured by us, was 1cm less than the door frame here in Portugal, (they are more or less 200cm).
In my IMO the best option to know someone's height is through the height scale, or MAYBE seeing the person in "flesh".
Otherwise, just guesses.

Hey cmillz...
Of course, I could be wrong, it's just my opinion... But like some other people said, there are people that can give a taller impression than others of the same size. When I saw the IQ movie for instance, Robbins appeared to be much taller than Fry however there is a scene where they look the same size but if I had to choose, Robbins would be the tallest...same goes for Vaughn, Neeson and Goldblum, for me they look the same height. Plus, in the Taken movie if you see close at the beginning when Neeson and Hertzberg are talking to each other, Liam leaning seemed to be as tall as George. I give my opinion after I look carefully but that doesn't mean that I'm right, just my opinion.
Cheers mate...

@Cmillz: maybe he rounded down from 6’4.75 but I saw him next to Stern and he looked Noticeably shorter. I could buy 6’5.25 and 6’4.5 or at their peaks maybe 6’4.5-.75 range for Robbins and stern 6’5.25-.5
cmillz said on 14/Apr/20

I agree with some of Danimal’s estimates such as
Michael Jordan, Rock and Will Smith but vehemently disagree with his estimates for Robbins Barkley and Conan. Robbins himself claimed 6’4.5. Maybe he was 6’4.75 but that’s still closer than him being 6’7 or 6’6. And with Conan since he “said he’s 6’4-6’4.5” which is unbelievable, he is accurate. Conan was never officially measured but Barkley was at 6’4 5/8 yet he is 6’5 1/2 according to him and downplays his height.

@Dream: Rob’s listing isn’t bad for him. He’s likely 6’4.5 afternoon but I don’t rule out 6’4 5/8” so this could be his lunchtime or tea time listing if he falls just 1/8” more. Me personally, I think 6’5.25 to 3/8 out of bed 6’4.5 to 5/8” afternoon height and he looks to have shrunken today. His prime would be about the same as
Michael Jordan’s

I really do think he may have been the full 6’5 peak. 6’4.5 just seems too low, especially for a normal low. That would mean he’d be like 194cm flat an extreme low, which I honestly can’t see.
Canson said on 25/Nov/19
@Rob: he is disadvantaged but still clearly shorter than him. Robbins May really have been 6’4.5” peak but 6’4.5 for him is an afternoon height or something like 6’4 5/8 or 2/3” rounded down

Robbins is at a little disadvantage there, I think Cromwell at times has looked anywhere in 6ft 5-6 range last few years, Robbins can still at times seem very near 6ft 5 with people, though I would expect he's also at an age that a fraction might be lost.

Canson said on 9/Oct/19
@Junior: but a guy measuring 6’4.5 at a low will look closer to 6’5” being you guys who measure 6’4 maybe 2-3 hours out of bed and are 6’3.75 at a low. I hardly see him as 195 which would look 6’5” in reality. Kobe gives that impression but not him.
Chris Junior Hernandez 1990 said on 8/Oct/19
@Canson Sometime a late morning measurement doesn't give off much different from evening/night. I can say is he could be 6'5 an early morning measurement and measure once in his low of the day 6'4 1/2 could also opposed to be 6'4 3/4 which he hardly look like a flat 6'4 1/2 guy. I admit sometimes he doesn't fit looking over 6'4 3/4 which i ever thought he look more closer to 6'5 that maybe on his good day he can even clock out 6'5 1/4. Normal day like 6'4 5/8 a low could be it. By the way Tim's son Jack Robbins look alot similar to Tim's height, they (father and son) could just be strong 6'4 1/2 guys not below it.
Canson said on 23/Aug/19
@Junior: he may very well have been 6’4.5 peak or rounded down from more like 6’4 5/8, and that may have been his low as opposed to a morning or late morning height. If I measured higher in the range say 6’4 5/8 or 6’4 2/3” I would likely round down and say that I’m 6’4 1/2”. Like in your case, if that were me I would claim 6’5 1/2 as opposed to 6’6” since you measure around 6’5.6 at a normal low. At those heights 6’4 5/8 or 2/3, I could still reach 6’4.5 if on my feet longer and 5/8 and under are the same in appearance as 1/2”. But At that stage he would probably look closer to 6’5” especially if others aren’t measuring the same way. He was at least 2cm shorter than Stern in his prime. A lot of people underestimate how a true 6’4.5 guy would actually look. I’ll give you an example in something Christian said before that he considers someone in the 1/4-5/8” to round up to half. So if we get a guy around my height they may claim half or have measured half. A 6’4 3/8-5/8” guy tho especially on the upper end of that would look more 6’5 or closer to 6’5 and they would’ve been 6’4.75 around lunchtime

@Dream: agreed and for a guy his size to claim 6’5 is normal. A lot of even the most “legit” 6’5 guys probably end up around 195cm or somewhere in that weak 6’5 range at a low like 6’4.5 like Robbins. 6’4.5 is rare but a flat 6’5” at a low is even more so
Dream said on 20/Mar/19
@Canson
Like you said before, 6’4.5” people are a lot more rarer than one would think. In the real world, people would say to them “I thought you were 6’6” ‘ when they are measured 6’4.5”.
Someone like Bo Burnham or Wladimir Klitscho could claim 6’7” and everyone would turn a blind eye, but Bo and Wlad claim 6’5”-6’6”, consistently.

That's my point, Tunman. I doubt Gunton has ever been as tall as he gets listed on here (6'1.5), and I struggle to even see the full 6'1 in that pic (unless he had already shrunk a bit by the time of the movie), especially if Tim wasn't even the full 6'5. But well, I should probably rewatch it, to have a better idea about the difference between them...
Same thing for Clancy Brown. Although I don't remember exactly how tall he looked, I certainly remember him looking noticeably shorter than Tim, and probably more than their listings suggest...
Tunman said on 8/Jan/19
In the cell scene I felt 3.5"was the max,but in your pic at least 4".Maybe Gunton was no more than 6'1?Anyways Clancy Brown was still way shorter than him.Ironically Brown was described as big by Freeman when he looked roughly the same.
Canson said on 6/Jan/19
@Andrea: he may have been a guy who measured like 6’4 5/8 or 2/3 at a low and rounded down. Half for someone like him though would be exactly like you said as the lowest he’d measure. Meaning likely along the lines of a weak 6’5” versus someone who’s strong 6’4 who is in the 1/4-1/2 saying half like I used to

Tunman, are you sure he looked only 3-3.5 inches taller than Gunton in Shawshank? To be honest, I don't quite remember how tall he looked next to the rest of the cast as I saw that movie many years ago (when I probably didn't even have any interest or knowledge about height), but from this still, I would have said noticeably more than that:
Anyway, I agree with you. If he really got measured at 6'4.5 at one point (like his claim seems to suggest), that's certainly the absolute lowest he could have been at peak. Though overall I think that 6'4.75 is a decent shout as he generally looked very near 6'5. Maybe he measured somewhere between 6'4.5 and 6'5 and simply went with 6'4.5 once...
Canson said on 29/Dec/18
@Tunman: I think at his peak he was 6’4.5 afternoon height similar to
Michael Jordan. Possible both were even inside .5-.6 but they appear more weak 6’5 guys as they may not be below the .5 mark st anytime unless an extreme low

Tunman said on 14/Dec/18
Certainly not under 6'4.5"anyways,he had somewhere between 3 and 3.5"on Bob Gunton in The Shawshank Redemption.Claiming 6'5 is also honest since he might lose near a full inch.
I wonder how on Mystic River he was chosen to play the role of a victim, actually double victim. To be fair, that film was great but it's not like a 5'8 like Penn could really dominate someone nearly 9"taller even psychologically. The scene with the Savage brothers taking him to the river was strange, they barely reached up to his shoulders.
Guru Guy said on 13/Dec/18

Canson said on 12/Dec/18
I highly doubt he was a strong 6’5”. He claimed 6’4.5 and his 6’5 claim is a roundup. Stern doesn’t have that much on him honestly.
@Dream: yea I agree. He wasn’t much taller imho. I think you’re right it’s angled and maybe less than an inch difference
Canson said on 11/Dec/18
@Michael 5’10: only thing is him downgrading himself wouldn’t do any justice. Tom Selleck is the same. People thought he did too when he claimed 6’3.5. It’s likely that both guys measure that at a low and just decided to round up once they got their stardom. Not so much that they downgraded prior to it. A half inch is gonna get rounded up by most people anyway. So a 6’4.5 guy if he claims that will be told he’s 6’5 in Hollywood.
Canson said on 11/Dec/18
@Dream: I agree. Robbins claimed 6’4.5 previously. His 6’5” claim is likely just a roundup like most others do which is very reasonable. It’s more than likely that his claim was his low at his peak. That looks proper in pics as a guy who would measure 6’4.5 low would be 6’5+ out of bed. He’s got the long limbs of a guy who’s almost 6’5 like Michael jordan and Kobe. I have him exact with Jordan and Barkley and a little shorter than Kobe at his peak. Also same as Joe Mangianello. I believe his exact height to be around that with Stern and Martin Lawrence. As for Stern, He could just be one of those guys who gives off a taller impression than he is because he’s skinny and lanky. Maybe peak 6’5.25 but today I would believe closer to 6’5” like maybe 6’5 1/8 or 196cm flat perhaps or even just 6’5”. A lot of people aren’t aware of and can’t accept how tall that actually looks at a low or even if it’s just 1/8” or 1/6” over the mark. They assume a guy that size is 6’6-6’7” especially if proportionately built. The same way people would try to believe that a guy like Bo Burnham is 6’7” or Anyone else in that strong 6’5 range or weak 6’6” range here. Same with someone like Jordan or Kobe they assume 6’6”. The lying on behalf of others doesn’t help either. When someone my size says their real height it’s like “you’re only 6’4”? I would’ve thought 6’5 or 6’6 or they would’ve thought a full 6’6” when I measure Only a bit over 6’4”

Canson said on 4/Dec/18
@Junior: I accounted for Stern having Camera advantage. I don’t see 1.5” if that. It’s probably a bit less than 1”. So 2cm perhaps. I remember Bobby3342 also said 1.5” but it’s because of the angle. Bobby is one who has met Stern and said he’s 6’5 as he claims. Stern looked 6’5 range with Magic and a solid 6’5 with Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon as well. Imho Stern is peak as he is listed here give or take 1/8”. Maybe today he’s a solid 196 guy. Tim Robbins admitted he was 6’4.5 before and his 6’5 claim is just a roundup from there. Robbins would likely only hit 6’4.5 at a low. Today he still looks near that but maybe 6’4 3/8. Have to remember if he is wearing some dress shoes he would be over 197cm if he’s 194 range without them.
Michael, 5'10" 178 cm said on 3/Dec/18
Tim was definitely 6’5” at peak afternoon height. He looked like 3 inches taller than 6’2 1/4” listed Morgan Freeman in Shawshank Redemption and 2 inches taller than Clancy Brown. He towerered over almost everybody in that movie. I could already tell from watching the beginning of the film that he was very tall. He gave off a taller impression than someone like 6’5” Vince Vaughn or weak 6’5” Christopher Lee in films. Robbins probably downgraded his height so he could get more roles, he does have the record of being the tallest leading actor. Tim was 6’5” minimum!
Junior Hernandez 1990 said on 3/Dec/18

@Dream: Robbins is the same as Joe Mangianello imho. At least peak. If he’s lost height probably not more than maybe 1/4”. I agree with Rob on Mangianello that he may look a weak 6’5 around lunch (5 hours out of bed) Rob said he was somewhere in the 6’4.5-6’5 range so 6’4.5 looks accurate for him at his low. Robbins measured the same 6’4.5 and claimed it then claimed 6’5 before as well. I could see both listings being late morning measurements and both coming out around 6’4.5 imho. In 1992 he said," I'm six foot four and a half and I have a temper." And in 2010 he said," I'm 6 foot 5" It that was a joke. I think his first words are true he is 6'4.5"
berta said on 15/Mar/18
i still think tim looked no shorter than vince vaughn when he was young. i believe tim was 6 foot 5 maybe still is i havent seen him in anything last 10 years. vince had a chanse of being fraction under 6 foot 5 i believe

Rob this year might you give him a current and peak height?
6ft4.75 when he was younger and now aproaching 60 6'4.25-6'4.5.
Editor Rob
It's a sobering thought that many actors over next few years will end up with a peak and current...Tim I think has held onto his height fairly well, but it won't last forever.
The age of late 50's to 65 is when many men lose their first chunk of height. Some - like say Morgan Freeman - manage to make it to 65 without anything noticeable lost, but most will drop that first fraction.
Canson said on 13/Feb/18
@James B: I’d say morning 6’5”. Prob 6’5.25 maybe 6’5.25-.5 range or even .5 and loses an inch possibly but evening height can’t see a peak of above maybe 6’4.5 like he once claimed. Of course could be near 5/8 at that stage but 1/2” claim is fair for someone measuring 5/8 as well as it’d be closer to that than the full inch and still weak
James B 170.8cm said on 11/Feb/18
Wasnt that much taller than 6'3 clancy brown in shawshank
Canson said on 9/Feb/18
6’4.5 peak but that’s a low for him as well
Jtm said on 8/Feb/18
Then you could argue freeman was 6'1 if that was the case.
James B 170.8cm said on 7/Feb/18
Rob i think 6'4 range was defnintly arguable in the shawshank redemption.
Editor Rob
Upper 6ft 4 range I think looked believable. 6ft 4.5 was probably the lowest he ever measured.
Jtm said on 30/Jan/18
Matthau was about 6'2 peak and 6'0-6'1 in his 70s.

Rob, do you think being this tall in height can be a disadvantage for a actor?
Editor Rob
I've certainly read several occasions in which actors have commented about being 'too tall'.
Certain heights open up certain roles. Being tall can be a disadvantage, but also an advantage...you will win roles because of height, but you won't be considered for some roles you'd like because of height.

Hi from Australia,Rob, who do you think would be tallest at peak, out of, Vince Vaughn, Jeremy Clarkson, and, Tim Robbins?
Editor Rob
all could be argued to be 6ft 5 guys, I think I've seen about 3 different Vaughn movies in the last month. I think if you got all those guys at their peak, you'd be finding not that much between them.
Canson said on 10/Nov/17
6’5.25-.5 peak out of bed
6’4.5 up to .75 before
Today solid 194cm
Ricky said on 9/Nov/17
Peak height was 6'5" for sure.
Canson said on 8/Nov/17
If the man claimed 6’4.5 he likely measures that at some point in the day presumably at his low in his prime. It’s more than likely that it’s his low on the normal day and that he’s 6’5” plus out of bed. Face it a lot of guys here are overlisted and when a guy built like he is (a bit Big in the body too) is next to someone 3” shorter and is slightly favored he is going to look taller than that person.

He never looked 6’6” in Nothing to Lose. I’d say next to Martin Lawrence the difference wasn’t that much different from Tommy Ford and Lawrence on his show. I believe 6’4.5 peak as an evening height meaning he could most likely be 6’5.25 out of bed
jack12 said on 30/Oct/17
Tim should be 6ft5 at least if not more, anything under just seems crazy.
Frty said on 29/Oct/17
Rob, do you think Tim could or underestimated his height like other tall actors? In films like nothing to lose and Shawshank (which was a very tall cast) he seems more 6'6. He looks much taller than other 6'5 actors.
Editor Rob
you could understand if he was 6ft 5 and said 6ft 4.5, but 6ft 6 I couldn't see for him.
Canson said on 18/Oct/17
@Junior: nothing significant but losing .1” isn’t hard to believe. I agree with you 6’4.5 at his lowest peak could be 6’4 3/8 today or 6’4.25 that’s not much loss
Junior said on 16/Oct/17
I don't see Tim losing height yet. He maybe 6'4.5" at lowest and still wakes up over 6'5, while standing next to 6'2 Benicio Del Toro look to clear 6'5 all the time, i wonder Benicio had already lost a cm maybe 187cm today.
Canson said on 18/Sep/17
Peak:
Out of bed 196-196.5
Before bed 194-194.5
Today:
193-194 at his lowest
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 13/Sep/17
I think he's still a solid 6ft4½ today at worst. It really would be no harm giving him 6ft5 peak
James B said on 20/Aug/17
Do you think 3-4cm is a lot for a 6'4.75 man?
James B said on 16/Aug/17
Rob could a 6'4.75 guy measure 200m with shoes on in the morning?
Editor Rob
if they shrank 3-4cm, yes
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 15/Aug/17
I wonder if he's really low-balled it in the past and claimed 6ft4. That would make proper buffoons out of the 6ft2 guys who claim it...
Junior said on 15/Aug/17
6'4.5 might be Tim's real height and 6'5 claim was a hollywood style which everyone claim a little higher.
James B said on 14/Aug/17
I used to have a friend who is 5ft6 and he claimed "5ft10". He's not exactley downplaying his height is he? LOL
Canson said on 12/Aug/17
@Rampage: I actually haven't seen too many Guys in person truly downplay their height. Maybe in my life enough to count only on one hand but that's people who actually say that they do as I've met two 6'6 guys at different times that claim 6'5". One of which claimed he's 6'5.5 and rounds down but I stood next to him in flats and he had on just Chuck Taylors and he still had me by about 2". He's a full 6'6 at worst. Then another guy who is a full 6'6" and admitted and looked it claimed 6'5" as he hated his height. But Your definition there is the correct one when someone claims a whole inch less or two inches less than what they actually are. I see others here use downplay to refer to someone who rounds down but I disagree with that as a 6'5.75 guy could claim 6'5 if he wanted to or a 6'5.5 guy could claim 6'5 if they wanted.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 5/Aug/17
I doubt a 6ft6 guy would get away with downplaying his height by 2in...
Canson said on 28/Jul/17
@Bobby: my guess is 6-4.5 peak too. And 6'4 today is possible. I bet stern may have an inch tho after seeing pics not sure on 6'3.75 but maybe he's got poor posture with him
Agreco4l said on 27/Jul/17
