I was listening to a Yorke song the other day and some guy told me to turn off the song, because it made him feel depressed.

Yorke is the primary songwriter, so to say Greenwood is the real brains is a bit reductive...Yorke the composer, Greenwood's the conductor.

Nah, Jonny Greenwood is the real brains behind Radiohead. He's a top notch composer to boot in his own right and I believe is involved with classical orchestras. A pity that Radiohead tend to keep producing electronic music though, it would be nice for a change if they varied it. I was a big fan up until mid 2000s when their music seemed to get stuck in that mold. Kid A had the jazz influence at least and although obscure it was the sort of album which really grows on you after a while.

I had the chance to meet him. He came across to me like a really nice and down to earth guy, despite what many people say about him being a ego-centric hipster. Anyway, I'm 5' 7" on the dot measured in late afternoon and we were eye to eye. He didn't look like a terribly short guy to me

Their height has nothing to do with their musical ability. And nobody is attributing any 'limitations' to people's heights, people are just interested in debating and discussing. No-one is saying their is a problem that Thom Yorke is 5ft 5, people are just curious.

I must say not all of the best musicians were or are short, but probably, the ones who changed history were, or at least they were "normal height", such as: Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Chet Baker, all of the Rolling Stones, Bob dylan, Bob Marley, Freddie Mercury, Eddie Vedder, Jeff Buckley, Kurt Cobain, Thom Yorke, Michael Jackson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Elliot Smith, John Fogerty, Elton John... I mean, there is a big list, but really, doesn't matter, you don't have to get to the sky to get to heaven.

@Shaun...I have to argue with you on that one...MANY of the best rock stards are short...John Lennon and Paul McCartney-not short...Neil Young-not short...if you like newer or heavier stuff, Rob Zombie-not short...James Hetfield-not short...the list goes on. But yes, I agree that many big voices in rock are short fellas...and yes, some of the best. But you can never say ALL. Btw, Thom Yorke is brilliant no matter how tall he is...guys like him transcend the "limitations" of height.

How tall would you rate Colin Greenwood? I've seen him listed at 174 cm but there are several scenes in 'Meeting People Is Easy' where he stands directly next to Thom and looks to be either the same height or barely taller. Any opinions?

I had him standing in front of me (at a distance of a feet apart) for at least five minutes, I would say he is no taller than 5.4, but believe me, his sole presence adds him a lot more inches...

Thom is 5'6 i met raiohead when they went to jools holland we talked and they singed some pics i asked them if i could take a pic of all of us together but they refused, anyways other than that they are great guys

i read 5-11 and 6ft for gahan.for years i thought and saw 5-9 when i would meet him.upon further examination,i realise he is indeed 5-10.its a slouch that does him wrong.so way in hell is he taller though.

thom york, after he got famous,as with loads others,(billy corgan 6-2) has a phobia with cameras and wont pose with people.he told me if a flash goes off he is gone.but both he and corgan were hams for the camera in the early years.and thom seemed more 5-4ish to me.like eddie vedder(5-7 or 5-8),who i saw a happy ham,become a phony depressed person reflecting on issues when their debut got bigger.please.a digusting act.

Yeah Vibram, those heights seem pretty good. radio_man met them before and after a show in 2004, all very nice (surprised that thom was becuase a freind met him earlier in the day by chance at an aquarium and he was quite dismissive)
Anyhow these are the heights as I could gauge, was wearing all stars at the time so this may affect my judgement + I was younger and was more like 184cm so this may effect my perception of back then.

Well, I've looked at 50 or so photographs, and read a few things including the making of the 1995 "Fake Plastic Trees" video, which said: "Ed is tall, around 6'5, the other band members are below 6ft."

Thom: 166cm Colin: 174; Phil: 176; Johnny: 181; Ed: 195.

having met all them but colin, have to say Thom is 5'5 to 5'6 (a little guy with a really big head), Phil is a little over 5'9, Ed is huge I'm 186cm and he was signifacntly taller than me probably 6'4.5 to 6'5, Jonny was surprisingly taller than i expected probably 5'11 and a bit. Would say from photo's colin is round 5'8

As a short guy myself (170cm in the morning), I love how many short/shortish band front-men there are. It helps that most of them are superbly talented. (Billy Joe Armstrong, Anthony Keidis, Kurt Cobain come to mind)

This height is way too high. Many Radiohead sources list Thom as 5'5" and that seems more accurate. Like many tiny rockers, he likes big boots.

I met thom at the trade march at westminister on April 15th. He's diddy kong! about an inch taller than me (i'm 5'5") bless his little cottons!
