English actor, TV presenter, dancer and singer best remembered for hosting Record Breakers and appearing in films Dr. Who and the Daleks, Carry on Up the Khyber and Dr. Terror's House of Horrors. In a 1976 Guinness Record Breakers photospread, it described "Norris McWhirter" as 175cm 5'9" and "Roy Castle 169cms 5'6½"

Roy was a good little trumpeter to add to his talents. He played it in Dr Terror’s House of Horrors, which shows every so often on the Legend/Horror channel.
Interestingly, not only did Roy star with golden greats Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and Donald Sutherland, he also acted in that film with DJ Alan Freeman. I wrote him a long letter back in the 90s, parts of which he read on his Friday Night Rock Show, and then he played one of my suggestions, which was Mike Oldfield’s ‘Shadow On The Wall’, with Roger Chapman doing the vocals. Roger was the lead singer with Family and The Streetwalkers, the latter group of which I saw in 1976 with The Who and The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
Roy gets 5ft6.5.

@ Rob - I haven't seen one of the Peter Cushing Doctor Who films for a few years now, but of course, Roy used to star with Peter in them. Starring with him again in 'Doctor Terror's House of Horrors' will have been like working with an old friend and colleague!

Roy was a talented dancer, actor, trumpet 🎺 player as well as other musical instruments and a charming TV presenter. He passed away at 62 due to lung cancer, although he had never smoked, which he put down to passive smoke inhalation from when he used to play in night clubs. How sad. Roy had four children, two of each, by his wife of 31 years, Fiona Dickson.
