Rob, could Earl Holliman get a page?
Popular American leading and supporting actor. Known as Sgt. Crowley on Police Woman (Angie’s partner), and appeared in films The Sons of Katie Elder, Last Train From Gun Hill, Broken Lance, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, The Rainmaker, The Bridges at Toko-Ri, Sharky’s Machine, Giant, and Forbidden Planet. As you noted with the Wagner photo, Holliman peaked at a full six feet, so let’s give him that. Holliman hardly ever looked sub 6 feet in his prime.

I think Holliman is worthy of a full six feet listing.

I really cannot understand 5’11.5” claims for Wagner, especially if Stefanie Powers was 5’6.5” like she claimed. 5’11.25” would be the absolute maximum I would estimate and 5’10.75” the minimum, for Wagner. Wagner was an example of a genuine 5’11” guy, no taller or shorter than that, in my opinion.
Sinclair said on 23/Sep/22
I'd lean more towards 5'11.25" peak than 5'10.75". Wagner still held up to his 5'11" on Boston Legal, aged seventy-six.
Sinclair said on 28/Jun/22
Strangely, Wagner often seemed 5’10.5” in Hart to Hart, especially when with Richard Herd, who seemed about half an inch taller. I agree on a solid 5’11” peak though for Wagner; 5’11.25” probably more likely than 5’10.75”, but I will stand by a flat 5’11”.
Sinclair said on 10/Apr/22

Without knowing how even that ground is about 2.5 inches plus whatever heel advantage (it looked a good 3 inch style).
Sinclair said on 5/Apr/22
Wagner couldn’t have been under 5’11” at peak, 5’11.25” not dismissive especially when compared to Keir Dullea and Wagner more times than not edged out 5’11” Eddie Albert on Switch. Perhaps Albert had shrunk to 5’10.5” by the mid 70s. Anyway, three very solid 5’11” guys at peak.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 14/Oct/21
Strong 5ft11 is fine. Something really narcissistic and dislikeable about this guy...

Could Wagner please be downgraded to 5'11.25"?
He was shorter than 5'11" listed Richard Herd in Hart to Hart.
And he could seem shorter than David Niven in The Pink Panther.
Editor Rob
11.25 could be closer yeah.

Just seen wagner squeeze past Simon McCorkindale in a crowded doorway in Hart to Hart and wagner was a fair bit shorter. If McCorkindale was 6 feet tall, as I read somewhere then Wagner was 5 foot 10 or 11 in the 80s.their shoes weren't visible

wagner some how doesnt look a tall guy in hart to hart wich iam watching now. he looked about 5' 10" then. theres no way he was 6ft flat footed. i just cant see it. his hair would take him up to 5' 11" people forgett alot of guys when getting there height measured just take the slider on the measuring stick down to just touch there hair then say thats there height! and thick hair would give then at least an inch. my friend is 5' 11" but hes 6ft with hes thick hair. becouse he got hes hair shaved off right into the wood once and hes height was just 5' 11" and no more. but a clear flat footed 6ft is still a big guy. 6ft is bigger than alot of people thinck. becouse so many guys at 5' 10" to 5' 11" say there 6ft. iam 5' 11" myself on the dot and when a was only age 17 when i mett guys who were geniune 6ft i was suprised at how tall they looked even though it was an inch more than me! but at age 50 most of them lose at least an inch or two. and a was suprised at how easy or much you notice it. even just an inch. well it must work both ways!
Sinclair said on 10/Aug/20
I feel Robert Wagner’s height is difficult to determine. I personally thought David Niven was a tad taller than Wagner in The Pink Panther, or at least when comparing their peak heights. I believe Wagner was the full 5’11” at peak, but I remember 5’11” listed Richard Herd looked a shade taller than Wagner in the early Hart To Hart episode, “Cop Out” . I suspect Herd was 5’11.25” and Wagner 5’11”. However, Herd’s posture may have been superior to Wagner’s, so they may have been the same height. I could be convinced of 5’11.25” for Wagner at peak, but I would have a hard time believing anything over that unless it was his morning height, in which case 5’11.5” could apply.

I was watching the war lover the other day (its always interesting seeing how hollywood represents relationships between men and women, pretty much an 180 turn from films today)... comparing Robert Wagner to Steve Mcqueen I guessed him in the range of a strong 5.11/ weak 6ft range. Interestingly if you google
Robert wagners height he comes up 180cms. Is there some truth to that?... He looks too tall to just be 180cms flat.

Similar to Dale Robertson in The Silver Whip. Always very fit and trim.... but never tallish. I think 5'11" is spot on.... in his prime.

Rob like Steve I think he was nearer 6 ft than 180, 5'11.5 would be a reasonable compromise anyway. I got a good look at him the other day in a film adaption of Hart to Hart and he was a couple of inches taller than 5'7 Stephanie Powers in heels. From a distance he reminded me a bit of Alec Baldwin.
Arch Stanton said on 1/Jul/15
Rob can you update with a photo and films like The Pink Panther, Austin Powers films, A Kiss Before Dying, The Concorde ... Airport '79, Harper, Wild Things, Broken Lance, Titanic (1953), The War Lover and TV series like Hart to Hart, It Takes a Thief, Switch, Two and a Half Men and NCIS.
To be fair this guy could look tallish in films and look near 6 ft at times. Rob do you think 180 is tad low? I'd have gone with a more comfortable 5'11 listing like 5'11.25-5 myself for peak, in fact he was comfortably taller than Niven wasn't he? I think 5'11.5 would honestly be a fair shout for him, almost 6 ft.
Editor Rob
I wouldn't think he was almost 6ft , today he does look no more than 5ft 10 though. 181 is always possible range.

In the recent Hollywood issue of Vanity Fair, he has some photos and looks a little shorter than the listing actually. In a photo next to Cary Grant (in 1955) he looks something like 2.5-3 inches shorter and in a photo next to Fred Astaire, he looks about an inch or so taller.

@5'11, I think Rob's got Matt Dillon a little too high though, I think he's more 5'10" and a bit. I'll try to find some "evidence" of his height as a younger man later in the week, my feeling is that he wasn't quite as low as 5'11" in his prime.

Strangely looked near 6'1" next to David Niven in The Pink Panther but looked more 6' in comparison later in the film. I find it very hard to believe Wagner was actually shorter than Niven. I saw Wagner in person, a foot away from him as he signed an autograph for me, in 1983. I was 17 and, I think about 5'11 and 3/4 at that point (6 feet, now). Wagner seemed a bit taller than me...and my 3 friends thought so, too. Who knows about heels and lifts, though.
Frank2 said on 1/Apr/06
Yes, Hunter did the unaired pilot for Star Trek. Once the network picked up the series he wasn't available so Shatner was cast in the role of the captain. Hunter's character was named Pike while Shatner's was Kirk. They ended up using Hunter's footage in an episode called The Cage. A while back they found the work print of the original hour pilot with Hunter and I believe it's available on DVD. I know they've shown it on TV since I watched it. The color is faded and there's a lot of scratches in the print, but it's the original pilot starring Hunter.
I'll never forget the day that I was driving in Beverly Hills and Hunter drove by in his Mercedes 190 SL convertible. I hadn't seen him since shortly after my father passed away so I wanted to follow him and say hello, but I was in a hurry to get somewhere and failed to go after him. He died only about a year later. I guess it just wasn't meant to be.
larry said on 31/Mar/06
Thanks Frank2: I think Jeffrey Hunter was a very good actor too. Didn't he do the ORIGINAL pilot for Star Trek?
Frank2 said on 27/Mar/06
I've seen Wagner over the years and he was never any taller than 5'11". He claims he's just under six feet. His publicicst says he's 6'. Fox Studios who he was under contract with also adverised he was 6'. But in Titanic (1953 version) as well as The Stars and Stripes Forever he was the same height as 5'11" Clifton Webb. In Brokan Lance he was shorter than 6' Earl Holliman and 6' Hugh O'Brian. In the film A Kiss Before Dying his character was listed as being 6'1" and in scenes with Jeffrey Hunter, Hunter slouched to make himself look shorter. But in another film Wagner did with Hunter called In Love and War, they were much closer to being the same height with Hunter being slightly taller.

Jeffrey Hunter was a very close personal friend of my dad. At one time they even co-produced a low budget film together. Jeff later was a pallbearer at my dad's funeral. Jeff was about 6' or slightly under. He was slightly taller than Wagner. Watch Hunter in The Searchers and see how short he is next to John Wayne. And in that film when he fights Ken Curtis who was about 5'10", they're almost the same height. The trick is that Curtis is wearing cowboy boots while Jeff is wearing moccasins. I used to call Jeff, "Uncle Jeffrey." He was just about the nicest person imaginable. He was a lot better actor than Wagner. It was a tragedy that he died so young and from a head injury sustained when a horse he was riding on tripped and he feel off. That was when he was filming some costume picture in Europe. About six months later when he got back home to California, he was going down a flight of stairs in his home when he passed out and tumbled down dying from the fall. His widow later told me that he suffered a brain aneurism so even if he hadn't fallen he would have most likely died anyway. She told me he was never the same after his accident in Europe. So sad.

Wow - I never would have pegged Osborne as 6'2". I guess his weight and the fact the TCM intros use a crane camera that looks down on him makes him look smaller.
Based on this info, I buy Wagner at 5'11"
larry said on 24/Mar/06
Robert Osborne of TCM once described himself as 6'2". Didn't give his weight. He looks pretty husky, so that can give the illusion of one not being as tall. Robert Wagner always looked 5'11" (even now). So, was Jeffrey Hunter really the 6'2" he is often listed as? Wagner never looked 3" shorter than Hunter to me.
Frank2 said on 15/Mar/06
I've got news for you. TCM host and Hollywood Reporter entertainment columnist Robert Osborne is well-over six feet tall! I've seen him in person. I was surpised myself since he only appears to be around 5'10" on the tube. Wagner is still almost 5'11". I saw him on the Fox Studios lot and briefly spoke with him while he was in between taping intros for the Fox Movie Channel showings of the old Hour of the Stars and he was just about as tall as me. He's a lot heavier these days. I'd say well over 200 lbs. And he still smokes!
