Many Happy Returns to The Cure's singer, Robert Smith, who celebrates his 62nd Birthday today.
In the 80s I was seeing bands that had got together in the 60s and 70s, but if I'd had to choose a typical 80s New Wave band, I'd have loved to see The Cure or REM, who I didn't discover until the 90s. In return for the favour, I got my friend, over 9 years my senior, into the band Spirit!

In the 80s I was seeing bands that had got together in the 60s and 70s, but if I'd had to choose a typical 80s New Wave band, I'd have loved to see The Cure or REM, who I didn't discover until the 90s. In return for the favour, I got my friend, over 9 years my senior, into the band Spirit!

Robert always had a big head. Read: fully aware of his own unique and formidable talent and happy to point out the lacking of same in "lesser" musicians. Ahah.
However, IMO, Robert's head is literally bigger than average which, along with his "goth" hair, def. made him appear shorter than his actual height which is fairly listed at 5'10". Lucky enough to see the CURE a few years back. Was happy to accept some degradation in performance quality in trade off for nostalgic satisfaction. No such worry! A perfect performance of no less than 33 songs with minimal breaks in between. Easily put younger musicians at their peak to shame.
Rob looks like an old dear now who can no longer apply his make up properly but he can still play on point and belt out the vocals. I've shown clips of prime CURE to a younger gen. who immediately proclaim :"Oh, so they were a GAY band?". LOL!! I tell them no, they all dressed like that in the 80s.
Big hair, big makeup, raccoon eyes, offbeat clothing, dresses, stockings, suspenders, you name it. Even the female musicians got in on the act but the guys left them for dead. LOL.

I recently saw a video of him performing along side of Korn (Davis) and the 2 looked about the same height. When I looked up this listing, for a minute I was thinking Davis needs a serious downgrade from his 6'2". But then I noticed there was a scene where, for a split second, both singers' feet were visible. Davis (who was also holding loose posture throughout the performance) was in black socks while Smith was wearing really thick boots like these: Click Here and was up on his toes! Don't be fooled if he looks taller, Smith is most likely (when not in boots and flat footed) about 5'10" as he claims.

He can look short, no doubt, but that's maybe because he's a bit chubby... Most Cure members were smaller I think, Perry, Porl, Lol, Jason...

i met him once. i'm 5ft 11 and he was a couple of inches taller than me, but he had enormous boots on - he is probably my height i would say

I never saw him,but agree he might be 5-8,5-9.I always heard or read 5-10.and stupidly,I believed it.and read ballsy 6ft for him and David Gahan,who is 5-9.5 at best.

i meet him in rome in the backstage after his gig in the 2003.
i'm 6'1'' and he appered me 4/5 inches shorter than me.
5'11'' it's impossible, he had always huge boots and the classic darkwave hair style and in the best way he can appear like a pretty 5'10''.

...almost for 10 years I was an extreme fan, got tons of videos an pictures, I would say 5 9, maybe a bit smaller now... but he always wears flat shoes and molko always wearing high heels or excentric footwear... well 5 8 is possible...
