US Actor. In the book Cold Blood, it mentioned that 'He wore...DiFabrizio boots with raised heels that made him appear several inches taller than five foot four' and also how Blake complained for years that everybody thought he was a midget (after film Cold Blood, where Kansas City Chief players were hired to make blake/wilson appear even shorter).

Here’s the other scary short actor I’ve compared to Joe Pesci. Yes, he’s 5ft4, though the average is a quarter of an inch above that figure.
I think I should give Robert exactly 5ft4. 😳

I'm thinking exactly the same things about Blake as I was last time I saw 'Lost Highway'. 😫
At only 5ft4, it goes to prove that you don't need to be tall to freak people out! 🤯

I love this actor.....he was great in money train. He just has that great intensity.

Robert is so scary in 'Lost Highway', playing the mystery man! With his deep voice and make-up, he has to be a contender for one of the scariest characters in a film - EVER! I'd love to see him in something else; this really got me interested in him!
5ft4. Patricia Arquette, who also stars in the film and is 5ft1.5, is no good as a measuring stick! Well and truly befitting of her films, she is walking about in MASSIVE heels!

It's funny, Rob because one of my first thoughts was Burt has some competition after all! Off the top of my head, I can't really think of anyone else who has worn large heels, lifts or elevators into their 80s. I can't help but wonder what he'd have claimed back in the 70s.

DiFabrizio boots with raised heels is true. He's still wearing them at over 80:

In the first pic, you can see a heel easily over 2" and in the second, you can see a design very much like the heels Robert Downey Jr. was wearing for Iron Man 2, albeit with a smaller heel, but similar sort of platform on the front. You see Blake at virtually any time over the years and he'll have custom heeled boots, undoubtedly with an extra lift inside at times:

Rising, it's rare to see a man of his age wear anything like that, Burt Reynolds excepted...they are definitely a bit over 2 inches, maybe 2.3-4 even!

To Ian C......I used to watch that show all the time. Here is some info: Blake may be best known for his Emmy Award-winning role of Tony Baretta in the popular television series Baretta (1975 to 1978), playing an undercover police detective who specialized in disguises. The show's trademarks included Baretta's pet cockatoo "Fred," his signature phrases — notably "That's the name of that tune" and "You can take that to the bank." .....That's the reason he was hired on the police force as an undercover agent, so didn't have to meet height or weight criteria. My husband was a Sheriff's Deputy and they had height and weight regulations but the City undercover people did NOT.

Okay, I just youtubed an episode of Baretta, and clicked through it. In roughly half the shots of Blake, he is the only actor in the shot. In shots where he is with other people, one of the actors is sitting down and the other standing, or sometimes one is in the foreground and the other well back into the scene. Unless you're looking for it, it isn't obvious.

Like Robert Conrad they cast short and had expert directors.

I have never seen an episode of Baretta, but it does seem weird that there could have been a police show on TV whose star was only five foot four. No police force in the United States would accept such a small man as a recruit, surely. Anyone seen that show? Did they take obvious steps to disguise Blake's lack of size?

5'4" guys rock! I'm 5'4", and seeing Electra Glide in Blue was part of my inspiration for becoming a LEO. Wasn't really cut out for it, but glad I had the experience (completed the police academy at age 48--top academic graduate, best defensive tactics, one of the top marksmen. Too bad I have a nonexistent sense of direction!

@Mike: I disagree with you on that. He was an established star long before BARETTA, i.e., his childhood successes at MGM, etc. He basically disappeared after BARETTA--and BARETTA wasn't a good television series.

I believe the bit about boots. I met him on location once-- he appeared to be about 5ft6/1m67.

Baretta made his name. He was too short to play anything else. He does not look witty enough to play Columbo. Maybe he could have gotten the role Carmine on Lavern and Shirley, but he looks too sinister for that role too. Baretta was the only thing he could have played for sure.

Most people despise him today, but between 1967 and 1973, he was in a string of great, offbeat cult films, the most impressive of them being 1973's ELECTRA GLIDE IN BLUE. I just watched that film recently, and there is a scene in which he stands face-to-face with the great character actor, Royal Dano, who is billed at 6'2". Using that as a comparison, 5'4" sounds right for Blake--he isn't a tall guy, but when he was younger, he was in terrific physical shape; one of the first in Hollywood to consistently weight train. Too bad for him: BARETTA killed his career, in my opinion.

P.S.--Rob: Speaking of Royal Dano, you ought to consider putting up a CH page for him. One of the greatest character actors to ever grace the big and small screens.

As listed sunday. I saw the Los Angeles Couny Sheriff's Department kick him out of the Hollywood Show. That was worth the $20 to get in.

That short? Wow, I knew he was a small guy but he must have worn some great customs throughout his caeer. Stallone's shoe man DiFabrizio.

I saw Blake at the latest Golden Boot Awards and he looked to be just under 5'6" in his cowboy boots. I'd say 5'4" is pretty accurate. He looked deathly ill. I doubt he weighed more than 120 lbs.
Seaton said on 13/Feb/06
I watched In Cold Blood the other day, 5'4" sounds good. Probaly shorter these days because of his age.
