My father escorted Diana around his college back in the late 80s. I have the photos. My dad was 5'11.5 and Diana was slightly shorter than him in her small heels. I'd say 5'9" is about right.

Spencer isn't standing his best there though. I saw him on the TV oncce being interviewed and walking around, I can't remembered who the presenter was but I remember thinking he did look about 6'3. Maybe he is a strong 6'2 though. I would say he's around William's height from what I've seen, 190.

I’ve read numerous times from different sources that she was 5’11” and Prince Charles was 5’9” so they lied and said both were 5’10”. I thought that was now common knowledge. I also read an anecdote of someone meeting her and asking her height and she said 5’11”.

To be honest I thought she really looked around 5 ft 10, but with some of the Hollywood stars maybe not quite. So looked so stylish and mature so young, not many have that when they're still in their 20s or 30s. Kitty Spencer very nice too, it definitely comes from the Spencers, Kitty's mother Victoria Aitken was a model but scary looking IMO!

I've turned over to the Yesterday Channel to watch 'The Stuarts: A Bloody Reign', and yet again, Earl Spencer, (the 9th Earl Spencer to be exact), the younger brother of Princess Diana and maternal uncle to William and Harry and great uncle to their children, is co-narrating the programme. He is written up as an author, and I'd like to find out about the type of books he writes. Should they be historic ones, they'll be well worth exploring. I've seen him contributing to history programmes many times before.

Earl Charles Spencer is 57 on the 20th May and has fathered 7 children. I found his height to be 6ft3, so around the same sort of height as his late Royal sister, Diana.

I'm going with 5ft9.75 for Princess Diana, who didn't live long enough to lose any height. 😢

I agree with 5'9½ for the lovely Diana. Charles was at least 5'10 in his prime or a smidge above it. I've seen her in photos with high heels next to 6'0 Tom Hanks in regular dress shoes and he seemed to still edge her out by like half an inch which makes me believe his peak height listing is accurate too. I completely stand corrected on Daniel Day Lewis' height. Lol, 5'9.5" was way off. He's listed as 6'1.25", here on this site, which I completely trust. I read years ago that he was listed at 5'9.5". Obviously, there was a huge error. So many celebrities heights have been misrepresented. Kim Cattrall for example was listed as 5'10", she's 5'6", at best by her own admission. Jennifer Lawrence was listed as 5'10", as well. She ia 5'7"-5'7.5". Taylor Swift continues to claim 5'11.5" while it is painfully clear, she's 5'9.5", at best. Robert Shaw was listed and perceived to be over 6 feet, when he was likely 5'10".

But in the upcoming season of the Crown, Elizabeth Debunking who is between 6'1.5" & 6'3" has been announced as playing Princess Diana. That's a 4 to 6 inch difference in height than that of Diana. How is that so terribly different than someone 5'4", playing Diana? I guess maybe I can actually answer my own question. It is easier for someone taller than the actual person to play that person than someone shorter, than the actual person to play that person. Don't you think?

Rob its been nearly 20 years since Diana died and I've always been a big fan of Lady Di.

I don't mean to be disrespectful to her memory but rob in your opinion do you think she was 'genuinely' a charitable good human being or a wolf in sheeps clothing? I suppouse we will never know the true answer to that question though since she is no longer with us, but I will say she did seem almost too good to be true which is quite obvious since everyone still talks about her after 2 decades.

She was a true 5'10. There's a story that Freddie Mercury would dress her up in as a man (which was easily pulled off by her height and dare i say 'handsome' features) and she'd go unnoticed! Definitely gives the impression of being a little loftier than Kidman in that photo. Moreover she is visibly larger in the head and upper body.
Her butler is in print as saying she always gave her height as 5'10'' and three quarters of an inch, and she herself always mentioning the three quarters of an inch. I think she was indeed a quarter of an inch under 5'11'' with perfect posture like people use when measured, but like many tall women Diana didn't stand very straight. Anyway, her butler says that is what she said she was and that is the closest you are ever going to ever get to the truth IMO.

I have always thought Diana and Charles were tall. I mean if you look at photos of them standing around, they are usually the tallest. They look about the same height to me. And how is 5' 10 short? According to one article, Diana's average height was measured at 5'10 3/4 and to her publicists, she always insisted to include the addition 3/4 inch. Her publicists, however, seemed bent on establishing her as 5'10 globally, for certain reasons. Maybe her publicists deemed it appropriate to project her height to be shorter than Philip's. I thought it was the Queen or Prince Philip who remarked about their height, saying they got it from their mother, once they got a bit older?

I think Diana was around 5' 10.5". Charles is/was 5' 10" and she was said to be slightly taller than he was. She wore flats to make him appear taller and only later did she feel confident enough to wear heels.

@Irsgh500-In England height was always connected with class but it may or may not be true these days.I'm talking here on the bell curve which doesn't mean that all upper class people are taller (the Queen is like 5') but that a higher % are taller compared to the lower classes.
This is not always true in the US though but it appears to me that the upper classes are taller and slimmer in general than the poorer.

Irshgrl500, they forced their way into upper class. And presidents have historically tended to be WAY taller than average because height is an important part of status but only for a man. Diana's fans don't feel the need to claim she was over over 5'10'' because it doesn't really matter, if anything that is too tall for a woman. Final word, the 5'10'' figure is mere supposition by newspapers, lofty men who met her have said she was seriously tall. To me that suggests over 5'10''.

As any Brit will tell you Diana was slightly taller than Prince Charles.

If Charles is indeed 5'10'' that is reason enough for an upgrade to 5'10 1/2 for Diana.

Honestly, Diana has always looked taller than Prince Charles and she never used to wear any heels when with him. Her boys got their height from their mom. Guys in most cases grow to become at least 2.5 inches or more than their mum's height(especially tall mums). Taller women(anything from 5'7" upwards) usually have taller boys considering if their partners/husbands are average height but when the men are really tall like 6'2" upwards and the women are shorter the boys can still grow taller but certainly does not grow taller than their fathers.

I have an interesting passage I will quote to you from the book "Marc Ellis: Crossing the Line" by Marc Ellis and Kirsten Matthew (published 2006 by Hodder Moa in New Zealand, on page 110, if you don't believe this is legit)

This is about Marc Ellis, a legitimate 178cm/5'10" former rugby and rugby league player and current prominent celebrity/tv star/businessman in New Zealand.

Now, I can be quite helpful here because I've actually met Marc Ellis face to face on two separate occasions in the last 12 months. He is my height and I am 179cm barefoot. There is no way the 178cm is exaggerated- he'd say 6 foot if he wanted to exaggerate. He is easily a full 5'10".

Now, this excerpt from his book (page 110, I repeat) is about him meeting Diana with the All Blacks in 1993

"I did my best and broke the ice with, 'You're quite tall. You must be about five foot 10 inches.'
'Actually, I am five foot 11 inches,' she said.
'Ah, only an inch shorter than me,' I said, which was quite obviously an exaggeration and gave her a laugh"

Now, the fact that 5'10" Ellis shared a joke with Diana by suggesting he was an inch taller than her goes to show that she obviously wasn't shorter than him. They could both tell that she was at least his height or taller, and it was obvious enough for both of them to joke about it. Also, of course, the quote coming straight from her mouth. So I believe 5'10".

Diana was 5'10" 1/2 Prince Charles is 5'9" 1/2 I met them at a royal engagement way back in 1986 it was to see a ballet Diana was wearing flatter shoes and she was about two inches taller than Charles, I'm 5'10 and she commented that we were the same height. "My aren't you tall! How old are you?"
And then she made a joke about me, how I won't have trouble attracting guys. She was really nice. She was so beautiful!!!!!!!

I saw some pics of her and Michael Jackson, she is 2 inches taller than him. I think that she is with heels, so the difference is about 1 or 2 inches with him. She was maybe 5-9 or 5-10 at most.

Diana was 5'10 and a half and Charles was 5'9 and a half whn she went on royal tours with Charles she wouldn't wear heels in the early years of their marriage so he would appeear taller. That's why in their engagement photos when Diana is in the blue dress Charles is standing one step up from her to appear taller.

I can tell you than Princess Diana is about 5'10". I am 5'10", and when I stood next to her wax figure in Madam Toussaud's, she was about a half a head taller than me, maybe two or three inches, and she was wearing about 3 inch heels. She could have been anywhere from 5'9" to 5'10". This is legit.

The only problem with the Michael J Fox anecdote is that he says nothing at all about her height in Lucky Man. He mentions how attractive she looked, what she was wearing etc, but nothing about her height.

Fox (5'4") met Princess Diana, in the fall of 1985, at the royal première of "Back to the Future", he didn't notice a great difference in height between himself and Her Royal Highness (see M. J. Fox, "Lucky Man. A Memoir", pages 99-100). The princess, a real gentlewoman, perhaps avoided wearing heels in order not to embarrass her guest (born in 1961, like her, and a subject of Queen Elizabeth II, so he expected Princess Diana to be his future queen).

Back when she passed, they had a special edition of People Weekly that commenerated (sp!) her. I do remember showing pictures of her towering over her ex-husband them mentioning that she's close to 6'0" so maybe, just maybe Diana was taller than 5'10".

I remember back in the mid '90's, when they were auctioning a load of Diana's dresses, and there was a special feature on Larry King's show, where they had Cindy Crawford talking about them.
Someone mentioned to Cindy if the dresses were a similar size to her own, and she replied (speaking of Diana):
"These dresses are about my size, and actually about my height too, she was quite tall. When I met her I was surprised becaue she was as tall as me and she was wearing flats, so I think she might even be taller than me."
So if Cindy is the 5'9.5 she's often credited with, and presumabley she was wearing heels when she met Diana and Diana was in flats yet still the same height as her, either Diana is taller than 5'10 or Cindy shorter than 5'9.5?
