Great, so let’s give Piccoli 5’11.5”, Rob. We’ve established it’s a fair figure.
Gerald S said on 28/May/23
So Rob, can you see my 5’11.5” argument for Piccoli or are you still edging towards 5’11.75”?
Editor Rob
the 11.5 range might be ok
Gerald S said on 22/May/23
Rob, how much height difference between Noiret and Michel Piccoli at 1:21:00? 1.5 inches?

Editor Rob
Could be nearer 2 inches

Rob, please comment on the height difference between Noiret and Michel Piccoli at around 15:00 below.

Actually looked quite close there!

Rob, please add My New Partner to Noiret’s credits.

Rob, at around 1:21:00 below, how tall does Piccoli look with Noiret? 5’11.5”?

Rob, does Michel Piccoli look more 5'11.5" or 5'11.75" to you?
I know a weak six feet, the question is just how weak. He is one French actor of note still missing, so potentially one to rectify.

Not seen enough

Solid 6ft1 peak, change of fraction over
Sinclair said on 28/Sep/22
Noiret had about three inches on very worthy add Jean-Claude Brialy in The Judge and the Assassin and since Brialy was likely a smidgeon over 5’10”, Noiret when with full posture may have been a smidgeon over 6’1”. Noiret slouched a lot so maybe the 185cm measurement did not involve military posture.
Philippe Noiret: 6’1”, possibly 6’1.25”
Jean-Claude Brialy: 5’10.25”
Sinclair said on 2/Sep/22
Noiret and Michael Lonsdale were two modest 185cm actors. They could both pass for 186cm on numerous occasions.
Sinclair said on 29/Jul/22
In My New Partner (1984) and My New Partner II (1990), I honestly saw a good inch between Noiret and Thierry Lhermitte. I cannot see a peak Lhermitte under 6’0”, more likely 6’0.25” peak so it is hard to see Noiret under 6’1” range. In Ripoux 3 (2003), I recall Lhermitte had finally caught up to 72-year-old Noiret height wise, it was too close to call only then.
At times in La Grande Bouffe, Noiret looked 6’0.5” to me but he had to have been taller; about 185cm like he claimed, he did however occasionally look over 6’1” with 5’11.5” Michel Piccoli.

@ChristianPerkins: Ireland - 5ft10½, UK - 5ft9, US 5ft9, France - 5ft7

@Rampage
I wouldn't quite call him "very tall" for a Frenchman. French average is neck and neck with US/UK's.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 3/May/22
Sinclair, in later years maybe more that range. Peak looked a sturdy 6ft1, I’m almost certain I’ve read 6ft1½ as well in places.
I think peak Noiret
Out of bed: 187.6cm
Before bed: 185.7cm
Sinclair said on 2/May/22
6’0.75” more likely than 6’1.25” I would say. 6’0.5” and 6’1.5” are out of the question though.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 1/May/22
186cm peak isn't impossible the more I look...but by Cinema Paradiso probably had dipped a below the 6ft1 mark
Gladstone Screwer said on 1/May/22
I first saw him in the 1984 film, Le Cop, not sure of the French title, but it bore no resemblance to Le Cop ! Terrific film that.
He was tall, but also corpulent.
Top actor.
6’0” from me.

@Rampage
It's not wrong, I'm French. Being 35 years old, I know very little about him as an Actor. I know he is tall in height and talent. And then measuring 5ft9⅛ at my lowest (5ft10⅜ out of bed) actually that it still seems very tall to me. In France we have the number 180cm where we begin to say that it is "tall" for a man. I guess in the USA it's from 6ft (183cm).
Jean-Pierre Marielle was also 6ft1 (185.4 cm) according to photos.
- Jean Rocheford: 5ft11¼ (181 cm)
- Louis de Funès: 5ft4½ (163.8 cm)
- Michel Galabru: 5ft7½ (171.5 cm)
Sinclair said on 29/Apr/22
I must admit 6’1.5” had previously come to mind for Noiret, after seeing him looking tall with Michel Piccoli but 6’1” flat is more like it. Michael Lonsdale was likely a stronger 6’1” than Noiret.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 29/Apr/22
O'Toole the more I look at him could've been a strong 6ft2 guy who slouched
I think Noiret was 185-186cm in his prime
Philip Z said on 28/Apr/22
Looked roughly an inch shorter than O'Toole in Night of the Generals, so 6ft 1 is likely accurate.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 28/Apr/22
In France he'd be branded as very tall
Sinclair said on 28/Apr/22
Rob, could you please add La Grande Bouffe, Topaz, The Judge and the Assassin and Coup de Torchon to Noiret’s credits?
Freddy said on 28/Apr/22
Thierry Lhermitte has always been described as 184cm and it's true. Because Noiret in the 80s was about ½" more than him.
Lhermitte: (peak) 6ft0¼ (183.5cm) - now probably 5ft11¼ (181cm)
Noiret: (peak) 6ft1 (185.4cm) - (the 80s) 6ft0¾ (184.8cm).

I can’t disagree that he was a good, tall height, especially for his day.
6ft1. 🕯
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 27/Apr/22
Nice one Rob, you even found a height claim!
I think a legit 6ft1 peak
Editor Rob
His claim seemed believable.
Sinclair said on 27/Apr/22
Rob, could you please add Who Is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?, Blow-Out and Night Flight From Moscow to Noiret’s credits?
Great add Rob! In fact he was at the end of my long list of planned requests, exactly the kind of celebrity I’d have asked for and I’d have estimated 6’1” flat too. He had over an inch on Michel Piccoli in Blow-Out, signalling under six feet for Piccoli. Noiret also easily edged out Robert Morley in Who Is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?
Editor Rob
He did stand out in films as a tall actor.
