Rob, what height would you give Philippe Leroy for peak?
He’s certainly a mystery. At the time of Buona Sera, Mrs Campbell, Leroy was no doubt taller than 5’11” Silvers, so maybe Leroy was 5’11.5” then (his slim build made him seem taller). However, by the time of Frank Riva, compared with Alain Delon, Leroy (then 72 years old) did not even seem as tall as 5’8”! I find a four inch height drop by 72 years of age hard to believe. Moreover, Google lists Leroy as 1.86m!

Here is the
Film and he did seem taller, especially when with Gina

Watching Carry On Follow that Camel now, my guess was 5'11".

Yeah seeing him with Jim Dale and Kenneth Williams I agree on a full 5 ft 11

He looks more like 5 ft 8. I saw an episode on Gilligan's Island where Phil Silvers plays a producer who gets ship wrecked on Gilligan's Island. There was a scene where he stood side by side with Bob Denver (Gilligan) They were the same height.

Yup, now check out 1 hr 38:22 Silvers is now the one who looks 1.5 inches taller! Cummings has gone from looking 5'11.5 to 5'9.5 in the same film! Must have forgotten his lifts in those last scenes, that's the only thing which can explain it. Silvers does certainly look 5'11 there.
Arch Stanton said on 26/Mar/16
Probably safer to leave him at 5'11 and just attribute Cummings wearing lifts for the reason haha. Those boat shoes didn't look like lifts though. Height at times is really a mystery!

sometimes interpreting height can be hard in films, even I scratch my head at times as cameras and angles can definitely swing things about...

I give up, how can Cummings go from looking a bit taller than Silvers at 1 hr 17 in Lucky Me to a few inches shorter at 1 hr 37!!! I know he's furthest from the camera but it's a mystery, He had to have worn lifts in some earlier scenes!!
Arch Stanton said on 26/Mar/16
In some later scenes like 1 hr 36 actually Cummings looks noticeably shorter than he did earlier in it, no more than 5'10, so possible he had a lift at times. Still, Silvers didn't look quite 5'11 in it though.

Rob, I got a good look at him in Lucky Me, to be honest he didn't look 5 ft 11 in it in to me, but you could argue that his posture at times wans't great, I reckon 5'10.5 might be better. It would be worth seeing more of his films though. Robert Cummings oddly could look like 182 in that film!
Arch Stanton said on 26/Mar/16
Mmm with Doris Day in Lucky Me I thought he looked in 5 ft 10 range.

He didn't always hold the best posture but looked pretty solid at times at 5'11" IMO.

Cheers Rob, 180 seems a good shout, 179 possible too I guess. Can you add Lucky Me, Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell, A Lady Takes a Chance, Summer Stock, and The Boatniks?
Editor Rob
I did watch him that Carry On film, and he could look 5ft 10.5-11 range I think
Sam said on 26/Jun/15
Rob, could you add Lady Be Good, Cover Girl, A Thousand and One Nights and Summer Stock to his credits?
Sam said on 26/Jun/15
Thanks for adding, I think this is an accurate listing, 3.5-4 inches over Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly, similar range to Danny Kaye.
