6ft 1 is good listing for this Korean American golf star... one of my Korean friend whose fan of her told me that she was already 6 ft tall girl back in 2003 when she was 13 and half years old... years later she told in the press that she's about 6ft 1... I know at least she hasn't grown taller since 2004 after age 14 or so.. May be many girls reach their adults height by age 15 or so unlike boys.... but she was already much taller than other girls back then....

When you're talking half inches standing next to someone doesn't tell you their true height unless the footwear is equal. Female footwear has great range. They wear everything from sandals (.125") to 1"-1.5" sneakers to 2" normal out and about shoes to 3"-5" heels. Wie sounds and looks about 6.0". She is also not 175 lbs either. Do you know what an even average muscular 175 pound man looks like? Well that was me as I have Wies exact body but a male version. My upper body and cavity were huge compared to hers. Our legs are similar. So unless her butt weighs 20 lbs more than mine did at 175 she looks like me at about 155.

Some of the comments below are quite funny and borderline juvenile. She looks taller than she actually is because she has a typical disproportionally long East Asian face and torso and seem to be exploiting her above average female height by wearing high heels every time she's out of the golf course for obvious marketing reasons. She is no more than a solid 5f11 1/2 barefoot (e.g., the picture with Tiger Woods) and most of the media hype is simple based on the fact that she's obviously much taller than the average Asian woman and female golf player. Nothing that special outside the Pacific rim here folks and Eastern European and American high school/universities are filled with young women of the same height with nobody batting an eye about it.

5'7'' and 6'2'' are NOT as amazing as people think it is for Koreans. I'm 184 cm and I was the 5th tallest out of 20 kids in my class. According to my doctor, 6'2'' is about 97th percentile in Korea, my height being a bit above 80th percentile.

I was reaching her eyebrow level, while my teammate was a little bit taller (she is 6'4) that her. 6'2+ ~ weak 6'3 sounds just right. She is 6'1." Both of her parents are very tall, and there are plenty of tall people in Korea and in Northeast Asia in general (ie. Korea, northern China, and Mongolia, where people share a Northern Mongolian ancestry; Japan seems to be the exception, though). People who stereotype Asians as being "short" seem to lump all Asians into one group when "Asians" are really a diverse group representing many different ethnic backgrounds. Just as Northern Europeans are taller than Southern Europeans, Northeast Asians are taller than Southeast Asians. Whenever you see tall Asian athletes, models, or even regular folks, chances are they're Korean or northern Chinese. Westerners who travel to Korea thinking that they're going to be the tallest people around (based on their trips to other Asian countries) are always surprised that they're not.

Michelle Wei is not 180lbs. There are many asians in the north that are tall. Korea is in north Asia. Yao Ming is from northern china. So is my girlfriend and she is 6'2" but she won't admit it, she says 6ft, her modelling card says 5'11", but I got her to admit to 6'1" once. She stood beside my friend who is 6'2" and they are samet. My father ansestry is from the south china and I am a tad under 5'11". In university I met the visiting china womens volleyball team. Let me tell you, I was short compared to them. My GF was about average height. So don't beleive Asian people are short. Most early Asian immigrates come from the south (canton) and tend to be shorter. Well, so are southern Europeans compared to northern Europeans. There are tall people and short people all over the world.

Had the oppourtunity to compare heights with Michelle Wie at the airport, with her permission I must add. She was in 3" heels and was more than a head taller than my 5'6", so she must easily be 6'1". Thanksfully she is not a painfully thin tall girl like Maria Sharapova, she has braod shoulders and thick muscular legs and weighs close to 180 lbs. A nice solid well built tall girl

koreans take off their shoes when going into their houses or some even in restaurants. So you would easily know if they are tall because they`re wearing elevator shoes. I'm sure there are people wearing that as do here in U.S but all the Koreans I befriended were tall bare feet. And they did'nt want foreigners calling them Asian because they wished their country be somewhere else outside Asia. Even Africa would be better they say :) I think Philifinos also share this sentiments.

Watched the LPGA Jamie Farr classic today and Michelle has gotten bigger. She is easily 6'1 possibly 6'2 and has filled out with more muscle. Her legs are long and powerful, she really seemed to pack on some muscle and more curves. She placed 3rd and did very well.

Michelle Wie was 6 ft tall at age 13 and back then she was listed at 150lbs. Now she is 6'1" at age 19 and is still listed at 150lbs. Wonder how the weight remained the same despite her going from a teenager to a lady. I would say that she will have put on a minimum of 20 lbs onto that 6'1" frame betwn the ages of 13 & 19. That will make her 6'1" & 170lbs which is very normal.

It's actually not that big a deal that's 6'1..Yes, she is tall, but I think it that this fact becomes even more amazing because she's so young. And people kind of chronicled her height as she grew up. She definitely hit her growth spurt early. I mean, to be 5'7 at 10! Maybe that's why she's so mature looking. I think she's pretty much done puberty now, so her height of 6'1 will be pretty much unchanged.
Talking about 6'1...there's a model called Anna Hickman's who's 6'1 too, but the most incredible thing is that she has 48 inch legs. That's like 4 feet! I think she was even in the Guiness book of world records or somehthing for being the model with the longest legs.

She's pure Korean but was born in Hawaii. I'm pretty sure she's 6'1. I saw her on this Korean variety show once, and she was standing next to this actor who is around 182cm, and she was still a little taller. And it's defnitely genes for her. Her dad's 6'2 and her mum's 5'7 both WAY above average in terns of Korean height standards. In fact, her dad's already pretty much above average for world height standards.
To Mary: I don't think she was 5'5 four years ago..apparently she was already 5'7 when she was 10 years old and first shot to fame. So she would have grown about 6 inches in 6-7 years, which is pretty ok. My sister grew 7 inches in 2 and a half years. Pretty crazy. She's 5'9.5 now, though still not as tall as Michelle Wie of course. She'll be like a dwarf next to Wie.

I dont know this girl but if she's 6'1" god shes is really tall and specially for her to be a girl. Why is it that white girls are too tall and when you look at other type of race girls they arent that tall compare to whites?. I think is because the alimentation that white people has. I am white too but Mexican descendent I am like close to 6'1", but I have seen many girls at my school that they are really tall there many white girls that are like 5'8" or more. No. She's 6 foot and a half in the day time, maybe 6 foot 1 like me in the morning. One of my friends who graduated from my school is a Korean and he is 5 foot 11. he's playing golf at stanford right now, and he promises me that she's exactly 6 foot and a half when he saw her in the bay area for a golf tournament. He actually thought she was HUGE, at like 6 foot 2 or something, but when he got near her she didn't seem to tall. And if a girl is 6 foot 1 almost and already 16, she's pretty much done growing. I mean, a korean girl growing to be like 6 foot 3? Guys get to grow until like 21, but I think girls are pretty much done by 16, if I'm not mistaken. I haven't seen too many women taller than 6 foot 1 recently, except for this one 6 foot 4 chick I saw at safeway. that was a weird experience.

Growth left? I doubt it. She's already 16 and most girls who are tall at a young age stop growing early. Look at Nicole Kidman: she's been the same height she is now since she was 13 years old!

She doesn't seem to be getting noticeably taller in the last year or so. I know I read an article where she is projected to be 6-2 when all is said and done by doctors (this was a couple years ago when she was 13).

Almost all the sites list Tiger as 6-2, so Michelle was taller than him? Could be 6-2.5 or 6-3...

She is really tall for a young age. Anyway, she did say that she is 6 feet 1 inch tall in a interview which I had read. More than 6'1" is too much for her.

She should be in the WNBA in a few years instead of the LPGA if she keeps growing like that. When she stops growing, she might be 6-5, or as tall as Lisa Leslie!
