British actor, best remembered for roles in The Lady Vanishes, The Dam Busters, The Importance of Bring Earnest, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1969), Battle of Britain, Mourning Becomes Electra, Secret Beyond the Door, 1984 and The 25th Hour. In the book Great Acting, he mentioned his height:
"Because of my size, 6 feet 2 ½ inches"

I'm not going to second guess the guy's own words, but he could easily be taken for 6’3” plus in movies and stills with other well known Brit actors, he often appears huge in comparison to them.

He looked very tall in The lady vanishes. Taller than Paul Lukas, who was a tall man. 1`89 sounds accurate for him

@Rob, excellent find! Very honest then, as Redgrave could certainly pull off the full 6'3.

If this is what he claimed then we should leave him at it

Finally found a quote from Michael from 1967, and he indeed claimed 6ft 2 and a half.

Actually O'Toole looks taller in this photo!

Looked a bit taller than O'Toole in Goodbye, Mr. Chips. 6ft3 wouldn't surprise me

Haha see 1 hr 37-8 of that link, look who turned up (again), Felix Aylmer. The voice is immediately recognisable even if he has hair there!

You recognize the guy at 27:44 (on the left)? Anthony Dawson, you might remember him as Professsor Strangeways who Connery takes the rock sample to in Dr No and as the would be killer in Dial M for Murder. I'd be most impressed if you added him!

Rob can you add a photo and update with "British actor, best remembered for roles in films like The Lady Vanishes, The Dam Busters, Secret Beyond the Door, Goodbye Mr Chips (1969), The Browning Version, Mourning Becomes Electra , 1984, The Big Blockade and The Heroes of Telemark".
I think he needs an upgrade to 6'3", always looked minimum it to me, check out 6:11 with John Mills!!

Rob what made you come up with the 189 listing, was it a listed measurement or guess or what? He can look a proper 6'3" can't he, see him with Sir Lawrence here for example

was a long time since his page was added i can't remember now!

He could look a solid 6'3" guy granted. I was watching him walk in The Dam Busters and he was looking easily 6 ft 3. i can imagine him getting measured in his bare feet at 6'2.5 though, but I'd lean more on weak 6'3" than 6'2".
