That's a good find, Arch. I think Caine has become a pretty reliable yardstick for rooting out the more authentic 6ft2 men. So far I've noticed Gothard, Connery, Nigel Green, Nicol Williamson and Alan Alda edge him out.
All those guys you could make the case fell into 6ft2 and change territory peak. It'd be interesting if there's more - especially actors who were active in the 60's-70's. He was Peter O'Toole's understudy when he started out - that would be very revealing. My odds are on Peter having the edge

There was an edge to him you don't really get from most mainstream Hollywood actors. I think he would have made a good killer in one of the Dirty Harry films, particularly the first one in 1971.
He definitely looked minimum 6 ft 2 with Mike Pratt and looks a bit taller than Michael Caine here
Click Here. I wouldn't describe him as Slavic looking, but he could pass for northeastern Europe origin, Sweden, Germany, Poland or the Baltic countries.

Looked freakishly tall and lanky in "Herostratus" (1967).
"Warlords of Atlantis" (1978) is a great movie too.
Gothard always had that strong, cold and a real look on the screen.
There's something strange about education and mental issues and UK is well known for their mass media, suicides, cult of personality and other ... Gothard wasn't an exception!
R.I.P.

Rob, could Gothard please join the Bond Actors tag as Emile Locque?

Michael Gothard and Oliver Tobias (everywhere listed at 6'0"):

Rob, what do you think about this height difference or Michael was a bit shy 6'2" (like 6'1.5-75") ?!
Editor Rob
Can look about 1.5 inches, though the ground might not be level.

6ft 1 . same as Michael Caine.

His role in «Jack the Ripper» '88 is very energetic and anarchic. Looked very real, no lies ...
To our great regret, he was gone at early 50's.
Rest In Peace!

No Rob but I have a get a strong sense that he may have claimed 6ft3 as well despite there no direct quote. Now was he actually that tall? That may be pushing it a tad....I think I mentioned before he shared a scene with Charles Dance in For Your Eyes Only...they seemed fairly close but I'd probably still say Charles would measure a bit taller...I think though there is definitely a case for Michael being a strong 6ft2 from what I've seen...more so than under
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 20/Feb/21
Rob, this interview from circa 1964 describes Gothard as standing 6ft3 with 'tough, almost Slavic good looks'...not sure if he actually claimed to be that tall though.

I'm fascinated by this guy's work for some reason. I don't know what led to his demise in the end...if it was career related or depression ran in his family but god he had so much potential. He was sort of caught in that grey area between character actor and leading man.
Editor Rob
not sure he really looked a big 6ft 3 guy, though with a slender appearance, maybe he did seem that tall to other folk
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 18/Feb/21
Rob, is a bit over 6ft2 possible for this guy?
Saw For Your Eyes Only again just there and thought he looked at least an inch taller than Roger Moore
Editor Rob
It is a possibility he could measure just over 6ft 2
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 27/Oct/16
Just did there, Arch...same guess as you!
Arch Stanton said on 27/Oct/16
You've still not given an estimate Rampage as I guessed 6'2.25!
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 25/Oct/16
I liked him in For Eyes Only. That "less is more" factor where he doesn't say anything hes still emotes so much and is a real presence. The look he gives Moore as he's steadily marking him like "you are so going down".
Arch Stanton said on 15/Sep/16
Seeing him with Kieron Moore in R&H I thought he looked about 2 cm taller than Moore and a tad over 6'2 if anything. Id be surprised if he was less than Michael Caine.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 15/Aug/16
Watching For Your Eyes Only when they're chasing Roger Moore around the ski resort, he stands next to Charles Dance (then a legit 6ft3) and actually looks pretty close to him.

Paul Bettany? Paul is gingery, Michael was darker blonde. More like Taylor Hawkins from the Foo Fighters.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 16/Jul/16
He reminds me a lot of Paul Bettany. Tall, fair haired and menacing
Arch Stanton said on 12/Jun/15
He was totally miscast in The Devils. Not exactly a believable priest. I think that was the point though.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 2/Jun/15
I remember him from For Your Eyes Only but I'm trying to recall how he looked beside Roger Moore and Julian Glover
Editor Rob
he was in the Jack the Ripper with Michael Caine, I think he was near Caine's height, but it's always possible a little less.
Arch Stanton said on 2/Jun/15
A bit like Kris Marshall in frame and height too.
Arch Stanton said on 1/Jun/15
Similar sort of look and structure to Taylor from Foo Fighters in the late 60s and early 70s. Skinny.
Arch Stanton said on 1/Jun/15
@Rob, can you also add Scream and Scream Again and La Vallée? Yes, I think he had about two inches on Mike Pratt and edged out Kieron Moore in one episode of Randall and Hopkirk Deceased. Really loved this guy's dark demeanour, you couldn't fake that on screen, I wish he'd have had more prominent roles. He had a perfect look for the New Hollywood era of late 60s and early 70s. I guess his dark side got the better of him in the end.
