Irish actor best remembered for roles in films such as Sea Devils, The Notorious Landlady, The Brothers, Daughter of Darkness and Picture Mommy Dead. In a 1948 publication it mentioned "A new star is MAXWELL REED who played the leading role of Fergus Macrae in the Sydney Box production of The Brothers. He is six feet three inches tall."

I think he could give a 6ft5 impression in movies. Watch Daughter Of Darkness...he's far and away the tallest person there.

6ft3-3½ range is the absolute lowest I'd argue for him. I noticed that he had super long legs and a shortish torso so might've appeared even taller than he really was. He reminded me of Sacha Baron Cohen in some movies Similar height and frame and also dark and brooding

Why would you wear lifts then if you're 6 ft 4 in your barefeet? People who wear lifts are people who worry about not looking tall enough, a problem you certainly should never have at 6'4 barefoot unless you work for an NBA or volleyball team!

Sure, RobV, sure... I can't believe a guy like the 6'3.5 challenger would wear lifts to appear taller than he is because if you look at him next to Rob he already looks quite towering! Same thing with 6'2-6'3... We're talking about Hollywood, not the NBA! A lot of people would even say you're too tall to be an actor... Actors who are genuinely 6'2-6'3 already can look very tall in movies, i don't see why they need to be even taller than that! Ofc, you're not 6'2.5 but probably 4 inches shorter than that ;)

No 6ft3-4 range is fair because he could look 6ft5 range in those boots. This guy had other issues far greater than height like his lack of real acting talent...his voice was so monotonous, it's actually quite funny to see him try to be intense

There really is nothing 'absurd' about someone who is tall wearing added height, it's just another way of improving your appearance - loads of tall guys add to their height because height is quite a thing and many men like being either the tallest around or at least not towered by others. I am 6'2.5" and I wear them! It is indeed the case that if you are a bit taller than average it's easier to add height and not as detectable - it also appears counter-intuitive to others that you would add height. But the response you get fully justifies it! If people generally think you look better taller, then it is the opposite of absurd.

Editor Rob it was Joan who claimed it...I can believe it though, some men even when very tall, still wish to look even taller. A much rare occurrence though.

He was a very tall guy who wanted to be taller and he did look similar to Rock Hudson in Sea Devils because of those swashbuckling boots. He wore those in public at times!
