I guess in heels, she can fool one into thinking she's tall enough for an average supermodel height. I thought at a glance she could look solid 5'10" range but she likely almost never in flats.

I would put her closer to 5' 9" - in the show Desperate Housewives, she always towered over all the other cast members (including the men). She's taller than 5' 7" Nicolette Sheridan. Anyway, Marcia Cross is a strange-looking person, what with all the botox in her face. I feel like I could see my reflection in her shiny forehead!

tall girls downgrade themselves, tall female actresses don't, they want to be perceived to be as tall a possible to the general public. Although hypothetical, imagine the impact if Lisa Kudrow was to claim she was 5'4". All of the sudden, Joey is 5'5", Chandler is 5'7" and Ross about average height. She anchors the height of the male cast because she is so close to their height.

All the tall women I know understate their height but hollywood is another world. So much effort is invested making men look tall in movies and tv, I would never cast a 5'8" woman who claimed to be 5'6". It would counteract all my hard work.

a lot of tall girls downgrade themselves I know a girl who is 5'11 (I'm 5'10) and when I first met her I had to look up to her, and I was like "how tall are you" she said "5'8" I'm like WTF?? - I didn't press her about because she might be sensitive about her height. I dunno, women should be proud of their height if they manage anything over 5'8" IMO. No need to feel embarassed becuase you stand out.

i'm tired of hearing that women have no reason to lie about their height. They have every reason to lie about it. When they are seen with their male co-stars, if they reveal their actual height you can get a good read on the male co-stars. If they lie and inflate their height, all the males around them suddenly get a height boost.

ex:

Katie Holmes page says:

"US Actress from Dawson's Creek and Batman Begins. She is pretty tall. In her own words when asked her height she replied: "No, I'm- I'm- I'm like 5'9"
Of course, in a later online chat she answered, "5'8"."

I realize this is not the case, but imagine if it came out that she was actually 5'5", how short does that make Tom Cruise. Conversely, if she was somehow successful at convincing the world she was 5'11", suddenly Tom gets suspected of being a bit taller than we thought.

If Vanessa Hudgens could convince people she was 5'7", Zac Efron becomes a 6'0" + actor.

Believe me, an actress who is short but is perceived as being taller than her actually height is extremely marketable!

The key is to be a 5'3" actress and convince the world you are 5'8". Suddenly Taye Diggs is not just extremely hot but he is a more marketable 6'.

She's my favourite actress on Desperate Housewife and I think she is 5" 10'! Cause I am 5" 8 1/2 and she in relation to the other Desperate co-stars look so much taller. Boy if only the men were always so tall...

Marcia is 5"8- I know this because she said it herself on an interview I saw with her on 'The View'. Someone mentioned her being tall and she said 'I'm 5ft 8'. You can only really trust what a celebrity says and she isn't small so she doesn't have any reason to lie about it.

She had always said she was 5'10" and a half/5'11". But now, I'm guessing that's probably only with heels on. I say 5'8" and a 1/2.

I would give her 5'11', but since Brenda Strong is 6'0'' and Marcia looks much smaller trhan her, than I think she should be 5'9''. 5'8'' still seems not correct, since I saw her next to Shawn Pyfrom, who is 5'7'' and she looked at least 2 inches taller.

I saw her on the street in Santa Monica and was shocked that she was not taller. I believe 5'8 is correct. She does not appear taller in person.

Yes...she looks a hell of a lot taller than the other housewives ! I'd say she looks somewhere between 5'8" and 5'9"...Cos my mum is 5'9" and she looks huge compared to most other women. Marcia sticks out amongst all the other women just like my mum does...and if she wears heels (my mum, not Marcia !) she's taller than pretty much most men too. She already is taller than or at least as tall as most guys here anyway...(here would be Greece).

Cross looks kinda the same in comparison to the other people on the show. Heaps taller than all the other women except Brenda Strong, usually taller than or at least as tall as the guys barefoot and taller than all guys in heels.

So, maybe she's 5'8"-5'9" ? lol

First, sorry for my english, I come from Switzerland and people don't speak that language here;
I read at many times that she's 5'11.... Am I really wrong to trust magazines? The actress who plays Mary-Alice Young in Desperate Housewives is 6'0, and Marcia Cross doesn't look much shorter than her... and both don't wear hight heels (certainly to hide their heights). Anyway, I'm 5'11 (grrr it's not so "statuesque", it's great!) and it would have pleased me if Marcia was 5'11 too! lol

I just saw Desperate Housewives, and Carol Burnett was playing Marcia's step mother. I was surprised to see Burnett, who's nearly 73 years old, was no more than 1 1/2" shorter than Cross in comparable shoes. I think Burnett in her prime was about 5'-6 1/2"
