Thanks fellas, was curious as my uncle played rugby and he was near 6’3, he had a very bigger then life presence. If it weren’t for this site I wouldn’t know much about height by let alone what two inches between two ppl look like

Rampage's blueprint is very much on the money and 6'2 is way too short for a lock/second row at professional and international level. Typical second rows usually come in at 6'6 or above. Very rare these days for a 6'4 second row. Maro Itoje, who is 6'5, is one of today's "shorter' second rows. Fineen Wycherley plays second row for Munster and is 6'4 but is considered 'short' and not an international option. Billy Holland was in a similar predicament...a really good player but simply not tall enough. He did walk by me one day in a shopping mall and was shorter than listed. He is a decent 6'2 and had been listed at 6'4. There is an image of Billy with Ruud van Nistelrooy on Google and they are same height. Ruud is listed 6'2.

“Way too short” is a bit of an exaggeration. A typical second row is like 6’4/6’5. You’d be on the shorter side for a second row at 6’2 but hardly way too short.

Don't take it as the be all and end all though. Obviously nowadays the game has changed dramatically and it's not uncommon to see centres, wingers and even scrum-halfs who are 6ft3 and 100kg+. Also like MarkT pointed out, blindsides are often times tallest of the backrow as a lot of them can play in the second row as well. But traditionally, the No.8 was the biggest, need that bulk when performing ball-carrying duties. But again, the modern back-rower can play 6,7 and 8. Full-backs though arguably the strongest defenders - I haven't really seen them balloon up like the wingers and centres. It's a more technical position though so the extra bulk probably doesn't really help.

But for wingers and centres the extra size does appear to come in handy. The way I look at it, large wingers are like extra No. 8's with the ball carry, lethally combining size and speed (Jonah Lomu was the first of that breed) whilst large centres are like an extra pair of flankers as they need to be strong defenders. If you were to take the No. 7 and the No. 12 on a team (roughly the same size) and have them switch places for a match or two....they'd do fairly well

I played rugby professionally for 5 years 6’2 is generally at the top end of average. I was measured at 1m86 through out most of my career and generally felt average in the squad. For instance for a scrum half as someone said 6’2 is very tall but not uncommon. Former South African scrum half Rohan Pienar was 1m91 as was wales scrum half Mike Phillips. In the back row 6’2 is pretty much average. No7s generally range from about 5’11 to 6’2 number 8s from about 6’1 to 6’4 and 6s generally tend to b te biggest of the back row height wise due to teams wanting an extra line out option at 6 now adays. Wingers vary wildly from small 5,7 whippets like cheslin Kolby to beast like Nomani Nandolo who comes in at 6’5. It all depends who teams want to play the game. Front rowers generally go from 5’10 to and the very most 6’3 and obviously 2nd rowers are the tallest of the bunch often hitting 6’7 and up. A position where players seem to be getting taller is full back. With the kicking game being so often used in international rugby especially the need to talk fullbacks steady under the high ball is becoming more of a necessity.

Depends on the position. For a scrum-half it's very tall but for a lock/second row way too short

It would probably be about average height for a rugby player. I think most will be between 6 foot and 6ft 2
