Julie Newmar's Height
5ft 11 (180.3 cm)
American actress perhaps best known as the original 'cat woman' from the 1960's TV series Batman. In film she can be seen in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Mackena's Gold. In 1961 she claimed to be "Five feet Ten".

The funny thing is the guys who are 5 foot 5 couldn't care less. They love my height. And the guys who are 6 foot 6 ask me where I've been all their lives. I get the big ones and the little ones. But men about my own height are self conscious about the whole situation. I think they feel threatened or insecure about a girl their own size.

They would make up numbers about what my measurements were, so I never knew if they were right or wrong! I was also [considered] very tall in those days. I'm around 5-foot-ll, but nowadays I'm not as tall as many actresses. People no longer ask, 'How's the weather up there?' That would really get my goose! I was attracted to shorter guys, because they would never think of asking me that and would just jump through hoops for me.
Q: How tall are you?
A: I don't know how tall I am. I've never allowed anyone to measure me my entire life, so I haven't a clue. I'm probably 5 feet 11. But...men who say they're 6 feet tall are shorter than I am.

Julie has never had herself measured so she might be a lot taller than 5'11. Sometimes, in her early films, she did tend to tower over her castmates.

Five foot eleven, eh? Same height as Bob Dylan, Yul Brynner, Kirk Douglas and Johnny Depp. Not as tall as Burt Reynolds.

I'm the same height as her and have been told I look like her (except I'm blonde) and unfortunately have had zero confidence when it comes to my height. It's not all it's cracked up to be.

She is at least 5' 11 1/2". Adam West was 6'1 1/2 or 6'2" depending on what source. When she did scenes face to face with him, she was only about two inches shorter.

WOW! Saw her on some old 1950's Movie, "The Serpent of the Nile" with Raymond Burr. I could believe 5-10 at least! I think 135 pounds is right, because her waist was only 23! 38"-23-38"....Superiority indeed!

One of Julie's first roles was in 1954's "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers", and she seems no more than 5'11" in flat heels alongside 6'4" Howard Keel. Later in her career she was mostly in high heels, so she could be nearly 6'2" at times.

This article from the early 60's lists her height as 5'10. I still think she's closer to 5'11 though, as she makes most 6' (billed height) actors look as short as 5'10.

Julie might have a slight footwear advantage (although it can't be more than 0.5"). Julie looks closer to 6' here and she's already 73 years old there.
Here she is in her prime (age 24) next to Phil Silvers (listed at 6'). Julie is in flip-flops so the footwear advantage goest to Silvers. They looked the same height. In comparable footwear Julie would probably edge him out slightly.

I met Julie and Adam West last year at an art gallery. Both were gracious and approachable. I took a picture of Julie standing next to Adam. Adam is 6-2, and Julie, who wore flats, was almost as tall. I can assure you she still is a good 6 feet tall!

I met her and a bunch of other Batman TV series celebrities a few years ago at a Dallas convention. Even though I didn't have money for an autograph, I told her I was big fan (actually I've never seen her work outside of the Catwoman role) and she was so gracious that she insisted that I pose beside her for photos. Not only that, but she did the same for my brother and then talked to us for a few minutes while others waited. She was seated the whole time so I couldn't gauge her height today but she did have the longest legs I've ever seen on a woman, especially that age. If she's lost any height, it's not in her legs that's for sure!

I met Julie in 1997 at a memorabilia show. As she was in her early sixties then, she might have lost an inch or so, and she was far more slender than I remembered her, but she looked about 5'10" or so. A genuinely nice lady, too.
In Julie's many sixties films and TV shows, she looked a lot more imposing. Perhaps she just seems a bit smaller as later generations of actresses (Brooke Shields, Elle MacPherson, Laura Prepon, Kristin Johnston) reached taller heights.
