Seen him up close in Atlanta and got his autograph. I was a little kid at the time. Probably the tallest dude I had seen up close to that point in my life. Tho I had met Jason Smith and Ryan Anderson at a movie theater around that time and they were huge.

What you lose on mobility over 6 ft 2, you gain a bit on serve as you get to 6 ft 6. Once you get to 6 ft 9 though, it goes exponential, because you can literally see more than half of the service box, looking at it directly. The ball doesn't drop, you just whack it at it. Whereas at a mere 6 ft 1 you have the net in the way!
Rob - it's a bit like the calculations for how far the horizon is from the beach on say the British coast. It's something ridiculous like if you're 5 ft 9 you see less than two miles to the horizon, at 6 ft 1 it's three miles, 6 ft 3 four miles (depending on assumptions about eye height within the skull, forehead height etc) . Can't quite remember the figures but well worth looking into again for me as far as I'm concerned.

Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 13/Jan/22
Oh and Reilly Opelka as well...he’s virtually 7ft!
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 13/Jan/22
Arch, don’t forget Karlovic at 6ft11 is also quite a physical specimen. He moves very quick around the court for his size. Not ungainly at all. Height in tennis certainly helps up to a point but I think there comes a point when you get up to Isner, Karlovic and Anderson’s range (6ft7-6ft11) and centre of gravity is hard to manoeuvre, it’s not like in basketball where “too tall” doesn’t factor in...
Arch Stanton said on 13/Jan/22
Isner's height for me does seem to be around the cut off point for a true giant, when you watch Isner play it's like watching a circus show because his limbs look so extraordinary! Very young, boyish looking face though.
recapa said on 21/Mar/21
207-207.5cm range for me.he is about 1.5 inch shorter than legit 6ft11 opelka.
Canson said on 11/Mar/21
@Shane: I’ve seen a few comparisons. He can definitely give off 6’10 impressions but has been listed 6’9”. 6’9.75 is measurable for him but not sure if it’s afternoon. 6’10 range is measurable for him earlier in the day. I’d say afternoon 6’9.5”

can look the full 6ft10 tbh.isner has one of the wildest porpotions that i,ve ever seen.

I think Isner is 6'10", Opelka might be 6'11"
Radek said on 9/Jan/20
Easily 6'10
Search memphis open picture of the 3 of them standing next to eachother, isner, karlovic and opelka.. they are toughly the same height... My guess would be Isner: 6'10 Karlovic: 6'10 3/8. Opelka 6'10 1/2
Chris Junior Hernandez 1990 said on 14/Oct/19
Now it makes me wonder Ivo is a weak 6'11 guy and Reilly Opelka too.

Hi there,
Rob would you consider doing a page for french legend of judo Teddy Riner ? he's listed 204 cm everywhere but i've always thought he was more like 200-201 cm, here are some pictures with John Isner

Shane Gray said on 29/Aug/19
I see many respected posters here guessing him at about his listed height but I see no photos or nothing to compare him to other than mostly short tennis players. Do we have an actual measurement anywhere or an actual good photo of him next to anyone who we know has been accurately measured?
Christian 6'5 3/8" said on 14/Aug/19
@Nik
At a certain point, height in tennis (and most sports except for maybe basketball and volleyball) becomes a disadvantage. Sure, long arms and a long reach help, but that comes with a higher center of gravity and a slower reflex.
Canson said on 13/Aug/19
6’9.5”. A guy that size wouldn’t lose less than about an inch in a day and that likely wasn’t a low for him
Nik Ashton said on 12/Aug/19
@ Christian 6’5 3/8” - Why do you think this?
Chris Junior Hernandez 1990 said on 11/Aug/19
He atually look a full 6'10 with 6'11 Ivo and Reilly Opelka. Maybe Rob had the wrong perspective on Isner.
Christian 6'5 3/8" said on 3/Aug/19
@Nik
I think being his height is more of a disadvantage in tennis, if anything.
Nik Ashton said on 31/Jul/19
@ Sandy Cowell - I wouldn’t, there would be no point(s!)! For me! 😂😂😂😂😂😂!
His long arms and exceptionally tall height will be such an advantage for him!
Miss Sandy Cowell said on 29/Jul/19
To be around 6ft10 is truly approaching giant status. I'd have thought John would be a basketball player, but it's whatever you're good at. I wouldn't fancy a game of tennis with him, I can tell you! 🎾
6ft9.75.

Super tall lanky guy! and seems to be a quite and easygoing dude ,i have been watching him for 2 years now he has a very powerful serve but he moves a bit slowly not his fault of course .I knew he was very tall when i saw him tower over 6ft7 guys like kevin anderson.

Just figured it out. It's his tiny head and short neck

John Isner is a GIANT... He is no less than 6”11.... Have you guys seen the latest pictures from London ATP finals? He overtowers everybody including Anderson... This guys is incredibily tall
Jdubbz said on 2/Nov/18
He has crazy proportions. At 6'10 he's only 5.75 inches taller than me, yet he looks about a foot taller proportion wise. I don't know what it is specifically, but he looks wayyy taller than 6'10.
VelikiSrbin said on 8/Sep/18
Is there photos of him with other people of a similar confirmed height? This way we can properly gauge his height.
Warren said on 15/Jul/18
Looks incredibly tall. He's like a 7'7" with his super long legs, but his head size is kind of a 5'7" lol
Canson said on 15/Jul/18
I’d go with 6’9.5 at a low maybe 6’9 3/8-5/8 would be the range at either end of it

@ Arch Stanton - I was 31 when my Step Mum told me that the older you get, the quicker the time flies. I was saying to her how last Christmas only seemed like a few weeks ago and we are approaching another one already, the month being December, as it happened to be.
Of course, she was spot-on with her prediction. It is so true, alas!
However, one way of guaranteeing that time doesn't fly regardless of your age is to have an extremely painful operation! The recovery period drags like time does for a small child waiting for Christmas Day morning! 🎄🎁
@ heightchecker34 - I wish you the best of luck with your weight-loss plans. You'll love the way you feel and look afterwards, and the ongoing trek to your target is never as bad as you think! You'll think, "Why didn't I do this ages ago?"
John Isner gets a huge 6ft10.
Arch Stanton said on 13/Jul/18
Watching him this afternoon, he's an official giant, looks way taller on court than some of the 6 ft 6-6 ft 7 tallest players used to look. The length of his limbs is extraordinary, he's so tall that not surprising he weighs 238 and pretty gangly.
heightchecker34 said on 12/Jul/18
As a person who is around the 5'9 mark and weighs 220-225 lbs, its definitely hurts to see a guy who is a foot taller weigh only 10-15 lbs more, even though he is a professional athlete. Really puts things in perspective.... I gotta lose weight imao!

rob what makes you think he is 1/4 under his claim? to me personally i find it hard to guess height on people who is either under 170 cm ore in this guys height.guys that is 6 foot 1 for example is easy because thats a height you see everywhere but guys in this size is so rare that its impossible to guess the exact height. to me he can be his claim, he can be 2 cm taller ore 2 cm shorter.
Editor Rob
There are as many people on 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full inches, so sometimes I go with what I think they will measure.
We compared him with a lot of people and with Karlovic, Del Potro, Cilic etc I think we agreed on average he looked a weak 6 ft 10 and might measure just under it.

6'9.5 and a weak 6'11 for Karlovic
Jordan said on 16/Sep/17
he doesn't look 238 pounds because hes so tall, that is why people guess me at like 10-15 kilos less than I actually am, taller people hold weight differently.
Junior said on 16/Aug/17
He was 6'9.75" i believe it but he doesn't look 238 pounds as he mention. Maybe closer to 230 or 228 pounds claiming a 10 pounds more to give a buff guy impression.
Chris said on 17/Jul/17
Yeh it does seem odd but does seem right if you see photos of them saw one from early college days. Apparently he was only 6"3 going into his senior year of high school as well.
Arch Stanton said on 16/Jul/17
So his father only 6ft too? We were thinking that he was probably 6'6 or something! Interesting, you'd think 6'5 would be more what he'd be like his brothers with a mother that tall, but maybe on his father's side ended up getting a stronger tall gene somewhere as well.
Chris said on 16/Jul/17
I wouldn't have thought under 6"10 looks very near karlovic hard to tell a difference at times. I would think a fraction over rather than under at times he can look gigantic. I heard from an article that both his parents were both a fraction under 6"0 and that his older brothers are both 6"5.
Reece said on 8/Jul/17
He would probably be closer to 6-11 out of bed. Maybe 6-10 1/2

Anyone see the thing that made the media about Isner standing next to Dudi Sela? I was a bit annoyed they kept refering to Sela as 5'9" (without qualifying it as a listing) when there is clearly more than a foot difference between the two.

6 foot 10 after he wakes up
6 foot 9 when he goes to sleep

Isner does look 6'10, Yh He is babyfaced even tho is 32 now, glad you have added tennis players on here, Marin Cilic looks 6'6 too similar to Del Potro.
Andy H said on 26/Jun/17
if you look at him next to 6'8 listed Kevin Anderson who himself says he's 6'7.5 barefoot Isner is easily 6'10
Ian from Auckland said on 25/Jun/17
I've followed John Isner's tennis career for quite a few years - interestingly the first time I saw him play (maybe about 6 years ago) he was listed as 6'8" - seen him a few times since and he's definitely taller now. He clearly kept growing through his early-mid 20's!
Allie said on 23/Jun/17
Facially he actually looks pretty cute and kind of on the younger side for someone that tall and in his early 30s. I can believe 6'10.
Tunman said on 23/Jun/17
Del Potro is more likely someone who is the textbook of a solid 6'6 probably would measure somewhere between 198 and 198,5.Well Isner looks like 3.25 to 3.5" taller maybe 6'9.5" is better but comfortably clears 6'10 earlier possibly even 6'11 out of bed or very close to it.
Arch Stanton said on 23/Jun/17
Nah andy,
Click Here I wouldn't argue a solid 6'10 with Del Potro. Granted you could argue 6'6.25-5 for Potro but he looks somewhere in 6'9 range there.
heightchecker34 said on 22/Jun/17
Interesting height selection. Once you get to those heights, at least in my humble 5'9 opinion, it is pretty tough to discern what the correct height listing is. He could say anything between 6'9-7'0, and I'd probably believe him. Unless you have people who are of similar height standing next to each other, or of course a stadiometer, its virtually impossible since you probably don't encounter people of that height on a everyday basis. Maybe if you were in the 6'6-6'7 area, then you could probably make an estimate. He is a literal giant on the tennis court, in every sense of the word, along with Dr. Ivo Karlovic, when you dwarfing legit 6'6 guys, that's saying something. However, unlike the NBA, there is really doesn't seem to be advantage, as I have stated before, the perfect tennis height seems to be between 6'0-6'2.
Andy H said on 22/Jun/17
He's a solid 6'10 if i've ever seen one!

A weak 6ft10...nice. His mum is probably at least 5ft11. His dad is apparently running for congress in North Carolina. No photos of them together though...and actually none of the father standing up with others. Couple of portrait photos and that's it. I'm guessing there's maybe some estrangement
Christian-196.5cm (6ft5 3/8) said on 21/Jun/17

Isner with his mother, looks small haha, but in reality she doesn't look far off 6 ft though we can't see footwear. With a guy like Isner you'd guess that he probably had a 6 ft 6 or 7 father as well, that would explain his height.
Editor Rob
yeah his Mother looks on the tall side.
S.J.H said on 21/Jun/17
I believe he is 6'9.5
Arch Stanton said on 21/Jun/17
He still looks very young in the face mind, could pass for 22 still.
Arch Stanton said on 21/Jun/17
Thanks, this listing has to be a first! Yes it looks right with Murray, with Del Potro you could argue 6'9.5 but then I think Del Potro is a little over 6'6 flat. Obviously clears 6'10 earlier in the day but his lowest is probably a little under. At times he can really look massive, looks obviously taller than even Crouch and Osman types

it would be great one day to have a listing for every height from 6ft to 7ft.
