I feel that Sir John Gielgud should be added to the Classic Actors’ Page. Please could you consider him for this honourable placement, Rob?

It’s not often that I call a ghost story stunning, but ‘Haunted’, from 1995, written by James Herbert and starring Gielgud, Aiden Quinn, Kate Beckinsale and Anna Massey was truly just that.
What an original tale, so artfully portrayed by all the actors. John Gielgud played a doctor, but the twist at the end was so incredible. I hadn’t seen this since the 90s, and had been excited all week. It was the first serving of Caroline Munro’s Cellar Club.
John gets 5ft11.

Rob, would you consider 5’11.25” peak?
Editor Rob
Would need to look again, I remember when adding him thinking a strong 5ft 11 was a possibility.

5ft 11¼, Rob? I think he was near 6ft out of bed.

I’d say 5’11.25” peak, like James Mason. At times in Julius Caesar, Mason edges out Gielgud and vice versa. Gielgud still looked a very solid 5’11” in Murder on the Orient Express.

5'11" seems about right, would have been considered tall for his generation - looks a lot taller than that in movies because of his slim physique, plus his best known movie (Arthur) was playing against Dudley Moore who was quite a bit smaller.

Yes, he looked 1`80 in my opinion. He looked about the same height as James Mason in Julius Caesar.

A rock solid 5ft11 peak, possibly a fraction more.

In a book chimes at midnight, there's an interview with Keith Baxter talking about said film, who described Gielgud as "six foot".

Nope. He was 5'11". Roughly the same height as James Mason.

I was thought Sir John appeared taller, like 6'2". Hmph.
