Quick side note - for awhile uber-producer Michael Bay thought that John Frankenheimer was his dad. DNA proved he wasn't.

Agreed with movieguy, one of my favourite directors, technically brilliant. Seven Days in May would definitely be worth mentioning too I think. Yes he looked it, I requested him a long time ago.

Brilliant director, made Rock Hudson's best film "Seconds'. There is a short documentary of the filming of on YouTube and Hudson and Frankenheimer stand together briefly. Not much difference in height although Hudson is obviously the taller of the two.

He did look this range in stills with Burt Lancaster, Gene Hackman and James Garner, maybe on the weaker range but he could have loose posture and can actually look more than 2 inches taller than Lancaster, but I think that's more so because of Lancaster having been a weak 6'1".
