As for his peak listing, right on Rob! A real deal, solid 5'11" once upon a time, possibly even a fraction over it. These days I guess he'd be lucky to hit 5'9".

Love the original series. I would have guessed around 5ft10, though as someone else said, I will accept this. He had a big frame which may have made him appear not quite as tall

In the original Freaky Friday movie (1976), Jodie Foster refers to her father in the film (played by John Astin) as being 5 ft 11.5 in.

In the early 90s John Astin was touring in his one man play about Edgar Allen Poe and made a personal appearance at a local Borders Book Store to promote the play. He was taller than I expected. Certainly no shorter than 5'11" but not much taller than that either.

Incidentally, he was a very nice gentleman and was extremely gracious to the people who came out to see him.
