Rob, you may need to look at Joe again?
Looks 186-187cm range with Dan Marino
Click Here Click Here (notice Joe Namath has lost a ton of height - he was 6ft2 peak)
Even closer in height to Howie Long

I'm not sure about 6ft2 but based on these photos I wouldn't argue less than 6ft1 peak.

186cm peak more like 183-184cm now
Crypto139 said on 9/Oct/20
Yeah I think his peak height was somewhere in the lower 6'1 range. Like 185.5 to 186 cm. He could have lost height earlier in his life compared to other due to back issues I think. Currently he fails to look much taller than 6 even. Maybe a 183.5 cm guy today if I had to guess.

@RP: yea I know someone who has met Boomer. He is 6’3 and said it wasnt 2” between them when I asked him the other day. He said Boomer in his prime was my about height and I’m 6’4.25”.
RP said on 31/Oct/19
@ Sotiris
Peak Joe was 6’1.25” & current Joe is 6’0.25”...now in his 60’s with past back issues & surgery ...he’s lost a solid inch of off his peak height in his 20’s. Boomer in his prime was 6’4.25”...listed many times @ 6’5”...true barefoot coming out of Maryland however was 6’4.25”. Big Man, I just didn’t see Boomer having lost 1.25” & being 6’3”?? He still pulls off a weak 6’4” IMO...lowest I’ll go on current Boomer is 6’3.75”. That still only gives you a 6’9.75” Big Show. So, you’re not far off at all my friend.
P.S.
Rob, Joe Montana absolutely needs a peak & current.
RP said on 31/Oct/19
Peak 6’1.25”
Cutest 6’0.25”

@Sotiris: Boomer still looks 6’4 in that pic with him even being closer to the camera. Joe only comes up to his eyebrows. The rest is hair. Maybe Boomer is a bit under but I doubt as low as 6’3” flat for sure. Worst case weak 6’4” even today and with James Brown he looked a full 6’4” still

I’m gonna say 6’0-6’0.25. Just over I doubt is 1/2” over. Probably 1/4” at the combine meaning he could be a bit less than that or up to it max
Borats Chicken said on 16/Sep/18
Rob, would 6ft 3/4 would be his peak? is that possible?
Editor Rob
I know others would give him that mark, I couldn't rule it out either.
RP said on 26/Aug/18
Frank is correct ...6’1.25” to 6’1.5” peak prime height.
Rob, seriously ...maybe the greatest NFL QB of all time needs a more accurate listing. Needs a peak & current!
Peak: 6’1.5”
Current: 6’0.5”
He did have back issues too. Caused him to lose his first 0.5” of height in his mid 40’s. His neck even slouches a lot now.
Frank R said on 15/Aug/18
Joe Montana has to be one of the most “deceptively short” celebrities of all time. On screen, he looked to me like a “lanky 6’4”, and considering that most NFL quarterbacks are a minimum 6’2” today, I’m surprised to hear that Montana under that height. Montana once said he was 6’1.25” bare-footed, and often when someone mentions a “quarter-inch” it means that their height has been examined thoroughly and repetitively. Numerous unreliable sources list Montana at 6’2”, but other more ‘credible’ sources say that Joe Montana and Jerry Rice were each 6’1.5” in their primes. Any claim that Montana was under 6’1” (peak) is erroneous. The fact that he was under 6’2” makes his NFL accomplishments all the more impressive. By comparison most of the QBs that have broken Montana’s records have been noticeably taller than him, (some of whom) had longer arms. In addition, Montana’s legacy was never marred with any scandals like “Deflate-Gate”, nor was ever suspended for cheating.

@Rampage: it varies person to person. Some may make it to 50 without losing and conversely some may lose in their early 30s or even sooner if they have injuries. They say that on average maybe 35 or 40

Rob, Peak Joe was 6'1" & Change. Was much closer to 6'2" than people realize...he has pour posture giving him the illusion of 6'0.5"...when actually was more like 6'1.5" in his prime. In 1987 on SNL, he made Phil Hartman look 5'8"...and Hartman is listed at 5'10" !!! If Joe was only 6'0.5" ? The Phil Hartman was 5'7.5" ! And Joe looked just a shade shorter than 6'3" listen Kevin Nealon. Honesty, Joe looked a legit 6'2" with Kevin.

Rob, since joe is 184cm at 59 yrs, do you think he'll lose 4 or less cm in his 60s or 70s and be 180cm?
Cause my paternal grandfather is 180 at 70s and my father is 177.5 and told me that he was up to his dads nose. which im confused!
And wondered if my paternal grandfather was 184cm at morning and 185 at night when he was younger
please reply!
Editor Rob: I think during his 60's he will experience some loss
Rob, we all gradually lose height after 30 years old. It only starts to become noticeable by our 50's though. To say people only start experiencing some height loss in their 60's goes against all scientific evidence, including the height loss article you posted on this site.
Editor Rob
You said: "To say people only start experiencing some height loss in their 60's goes against all scientific evidence, including the height loss article you posted on this site."
I'm clearly not talking generally, just about Joe...although you missed the part I said at age 59 "I would believe he could have lost a cm by now" 😎
So I'm saying he might have already lost a cm by near 60 and that through his 60's will suffer some height loss.

I did business with Joe in the mid 90's. I measure right under 6'1", like, 6'7/8th. I stood next to Joe several times and he seemed a bit taller than me. My guess would be 6'1" and some change. It was pretty cool and he was very friendly. Got him to autograph a book for my mom.

No way Joe is this low. From all the photos I've seen here is what I've gathered.
Joe Montana/Jerry Rice - both 6'1.5 (How could they be this low, Rice next to his 5'11 son is much taller, and next to Alex O'loughlin looks a few inches taller)
Steve Young - 6'0.75
Aaron Rodgers - 6'1.75 (Probably 6'2 at 7 or 8 AM)

I had a connecting flight in San Francisco a month ago and as I was running to my connecting flight I almost ran over Joe Montana (and his body guard who would have killed me) coming out the gate. I was surprised by how tall he was...I'm a true 6'1" in my bare feet (closer to 6'1 and 1/4) and Joe was every bit as tall as me at 60 years old...I only post this because I always thought colleges and NFL Teams in the 70s and 80s lied about the player's heights, but I can tell you Joe Montana is at least 6'1"

So Rob is this his peak height or current height you have listed. I have heard that he has had alot of problems with his body after football. Being a Skinner QB in the era he played in did no favors for him. He had to have back surgery in the middle of his playing career and claims he can hardly run. So I think he most likely has dropped a bit. What do you think?
Editor Rob
I would believe he could have lost a cm by now, but I think in 184 range is probably nearer than 188 range.
Borats chicken said on 10/Feb/16

he could be still 5ft 10 range now and look smaller with looser posture.

@tony t. Russell Wilson was officially measured (early in the morning) at 5'10 5/8" at the 2012 NFL Combine. By the typical standards of this site, he'd either be listed at 5'10.5" or 5'10.25". There, done, no page needed. The pages we need more of are ones for the older athletes without officially documented measurements, where the subject's height is a matter of contention rather than a matter of fact.
Last time I checked you weren't the editor of this site.

So Rodgers must be 6 ft 1.5 after all and Favre is a legit 6 ft 2.
SportsHeight said on 3/Dec/15
Rodgers was a flat 6'2" at the combine, again presumably a very early morning measurement for a top prospect. This means he's probably 6'1.75" on aggregate, perhaps even a little lower, depending on how much height he loses. Eli Manning was 6'4.75" at the combine (same deal), which probably puts him around 6'4.5".
Note: For anyone looking for a listing from a football player who was drafted from 1999 on, just go to NFLDraftScout.com and search for them, or Google their name with "NFL Draft Scout" and their page should come up. Listings are measured to the 1/8th inch. For example, a height of 6025 translates to 6'2 5/8", and 5111 translates to 5'11 1/8". Bear in mind these are usually early morning measurements. For NBA measurements from around the same period on, go to DraftExpress.com.

Aaron Rodgers: 6'2" (I don't care what the photos suggest. He was measured at 6'2" on the dot, so therefore, he is 6'2")
Joe Montana: 6'0 1/2"-6'0 3/4" (he's definitely not 6'2". He can pull off looking 6'2" with excellent posture and the right boots though)
Jerry Rice: 6'0 1/2"
Steve Young: 6'0 1/2" (that's how tall he appears by Terrell Owens, who was measured at 6'2 7/8").
dennard said on 22/Nov/15
