Jean Shrimpton looks about 5'7" - maybe an average tall-ish model height. I doubt she's 5'9". She and Twiggy had similar look - really great, small faces, big eyes, and really skinny frames. Twiggy's thing was a gamine, innocent look, while Jean's was a sexy look. I think Twiggy's short, cool haircut really set her apart. Shrimpton's more typical long hair just made her look pretty, but nowhere as striking as Twiggy. She had a more square face and bigger mouth than Twiggy, and that made her look older, though they were both young models in the 60s.
I've looked at a lot of pics and vids of Twiggy, from her heyday until today. She looked no taller than 5'4", even when she was a model in the 60s. She looked no taller than the average female in pics/vids of her with other people. Now, she's nearing 70, and she looks no more than 5'3", if even that.

I have never understood why top models are paid so much, because they are all so easily replaced. We must have had at least ten girls in my high school who were beautiful enough to be models. Feminine beauty is powerful, but also highly perishable. Even a woman of twenty-five is getting too old to be a professional beauty. My guess is that almost all of the models in the ads in any given issue of Vogue are teenagers.

These women you are putting forward do so deserves pages because their heights are interesting, especially Jean's here at 5ft9, but they have contributed in no uncertain terms to the celebrity world. Jane Birkin, for instance, mother of Charlotte Gainsburg, is someone I looked for when I first started coming! So, for that matter is Jean!
The name Jean is such a simple, basic name, yet so many truly beautiful women have been called it - and men, for that matter! Apart from Jean Shrimpton, there was Jean Simmons, a knock-out if ever there was one, Norma Jean Baker, better known as Marilyn Monroe, the quirky Jean Harlow and so on! I think Ms Shrimpton is pretty much on par with Jean Simmons, though my Mum might wish to have disagreed if she was still with us today, for she adored Simmons!
The first thing I noticed when I saw Jean Shrimpton was the unique prettiness of her face! I never knew she was as tall as 5ft9! I found that out on Saturday. I couldn't agree more that these girls deserve a page because they are icons of the first calibre and I can't see their appeal ever, ever fading.
So MaryAnne, carry on with the good work, putting forward the names of those you adore! You have taught me a bit about Shrimpton - I have never found a book on her, but I did read Twiggy's autobiography, and very entertaining it was too, but I don't recall that it mentioned she idolised Jean Shrimpton! You told me that!
Now I will let you into a little secret: I collect beautiful dolls, ones which celebrate designers, films, nationalities, Hollywood itself, and infinitely more, and have done so for over 30 years. Believe you me, Jean's got the perfect little face that would sell any of them!
