He's likely lost height but I'm not sure I'd go sub-6ft2 though

Peak was a solid 6ft3, no less

Actually, Rampage, 160 pounds at six foot three is not excessively thin. That combination yields a body mass index of 20.0, which is in the normal range. Also, Taylor in middle age looks quite strong, like a farmer.

When my brother was 20, he was six foot two and 135 pounds. I was six foot four and 165 pounds. We would eat like animals-5000 calories a day was the norm for us. We lived in a university residence where you paid for your food and lodging at a fixed rate at the beginning of the term, and we would eat seconds at every meal. We would sometimes get a pizza at night, and I would eat chocolate bars and swill soft drinks during the day. Neither of us gained any weight at all from when we were eighteen until we were about twenty-eight, and then we got thicker around the waist. My brother has gained 25 pounds since he was twenty (in 1970), and I have gained about thirty. We're skinny guys with moderately sized paunches.

Paradoxically, because of my own thinness, I make no judgements about fat people at all. Your body type is just something you're stuck with, and you have very little leeway to either gain or lose weight, without near-superhuman efforts that may in fact make you sick.

What about people who are slim and fit in youth and then suddenly become fat? Once again, that's something over which we have very little control. Somebody like Kristie Alley, who suddenly became obese, just had a metabolic time bomb go off when she reached a certain age, abruptly robbing her of her extraordinary beauty. Just bad luck, really, and no more evidence of moral failure than becoming arthritic.

What's up with that Howard Stern picture?
Taylor looks under 6'1
I'd expect him to go a good amount over Stern's brow.

Maybe Taylor is standing with legs crossed and loose posture while Stern has boots on?
Either way I think 6'2.5ish peak and now 6'1.5
Editor Rob
He might be into that range today, 6ft 1-2

He'd be about 6 ft 3. I'd be surprised if he was 6 ft 4 once. He could've been 6 ft 3 at peak and possibly be 6 ft 2 now.

just saw photo of him and howard stern it looks like there is more like 3-4 inches beetween them
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 7/Feb/17
6ft3½ peak Rob?

i never realised he was this tall either. i thougth he was maybe 187-188 guy but now when looking closer at photos like with obama he is clearly in the 6 foot 3 range. but he is almost 70? he may have lost half inch?
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 10/Apr/16
Could pass for 6ft4...very lanky guy

160lbs is insane but I can relate to being that thin at one point.

I think he may well have never been taller than 6'2.5" personally.

@Jakob

A news article did mention him that I found 6'3" 155lbs but could have been 6'3.5" or 6'3.25" and just rounded down. The general rule in society is if your a height plus a quarter or half inch, you round down not up.

I'm delighted to find James Taylor on here, I never thought of looking for him. I went to see him in New Jersey in 2010 and we got to talk to him at the side of the stage after the show. I was surprised how tall he was; I'm a shade under 6'3" and my dad is a big six foot guy, and he was a bit taller than me and a lot taller than my dad. Nothing under 191cm, and in his younger days more like 192cm I think. Rob, do some guys in their 60's only lose a cm if any?

Hey Rob, how tall do you think his son is(Ben Taylor)?
He's about 2" taller Click Here
Editor Rob
would need to see more of him to say

Agreed on the weight for Stewart...at my most gawdy teenage stage I was already over 6'4" and weighed something around 155 lb...everyone felt I looked unhealthly thin, emaciated, while skinny Stewart never looked unhealthy.

Jimmy Stewart was 130 lbs before he joined the army, during the bulk of his film career he was definitely around 160.
Ian C. said on 17/May/14
When you see Taylor recently he looks strong, like a farmer. He would qualify as one of the few show business people who looks more attractive in late middle age than he did when he was young. So maybe he had some sort of addiction thing going on when he was young.

I still can't believe a 6 ft 3 man could be 130 lbs without looking seriously ill/skeletal. Jimmy was always thin but he was at least healthy looking. It's a typical female weight and he was a foot taller! Stewart looked similar to Taylor's height and build in the 70s, more 155-160 to me.

---

6'3" 155 lbs would looks like a marathon runner. 6'3" 130 would look like an eating disorder.

I'm about 130 at 4ft 11 and although not super slim I'm not fat, a size British 10!

@ Mathew

Jimmy Stewart claimed to be 130 pounds! Yeah 180 pounds for 6'3" is slender as it is, 150 pounds is more the weight of the average 5'7-5'8" guy.

Keith Richards was skin & bones in '71, same lifestyle. Jimmy Stewart 6' 3" & 130? Gism.

155 was kinda high for '71, he was obliterated on heroin then. H users don't eat.

6'3" 155 too high? Jeez he must have been real thin. I'm that height and weigh 180 - 185 range and I'm considered thin by most.

In any case I do believe 6'3" looks pretty accurate. And I don't think he's shrunk by any significant amount.

He was really skinny in the early 70s. At least 155 pounds seems believable peak, unlike Jimmy Stewart's 130 pounds which is completely ridiculously light for a 6 ft 3 guy!

New article validating he's 6'3". If he was something like 6'3 1/2", they'd probably mention it
Or put 6'4".
Editor Rob
so the mention was Time magazine in early 70's, 155 pounds aswell!
Sam said on 28/Apr/14
Thanks for adding Rob and yes a bit more is plausible, possibly up to 6'3.5" at peak. Clearly he doesn't seem to be dipping below 6'3" even today in his 60s.

He's a tall man - a comfortable 2" taller than Obama.

Do you think he could be over this? It's very possible actually.
Editor Rob
today I'd say he looks 6ft 3, there is a chance he could have been a bit over it I guess.
Arch Stanton said on 26/Apr/14
Another excellent new addition, nice one. Nothing less than a solid 6'3", in fact he can look 6'4"-6'5" in the Elton/Costello/Krall pictures.
