People always comment on this guy's height as it's so unusual but they rarely say"he's 6 ft 8". People will often say "he's almost 7 ft tall". Same with Tyson Fury! It's like Rob saying "I'm almost 6 ft"!! 6 ft 8 is a strange height range where people think you're big enough to say you're almost 7 ft!!

I know you're around the same height as me (6'5 5/8 give or take a mm or two): do you ever envy your brothers for being around 2 inches taller than you? It must be pretty strange to constantly have to look up at people when you're already very tall at 197cm range. I'd still take 197 over 202 (though I'd prefer 198 or 199), what about you?

6'3 is 97.4th percentile according to a bunch of percentile calculators. I just looked at one of my old physicals from early 2017, and I was measured at 191.8cm/6'3.5 and recorded as 98.2nd percentile.

@Christian: I’d possibly put 6’2.75 as the start. So a guy at 6’3.5 out of bed and 6’2.75 would fit. I consider anything in that range of 190-200 or maybe 190–199.5 as very tall and over 200 as Extrenrly tall

Seeing some of the comments here, I felt like adding some input here, being a strong 6'8 myself. 6'8+ is extremely rare, I've never seen somebody exactly 6'8 in public before, met maybe a dozen 6'7 guys over the years. I've only known one person taller and only by a couple of inches. I live in Atl area in GA, and see a lot of people everyday. I've been to arenas with 15,000 people and still see nobody my height. I feel like 6'6 plus is the start of the "very rare" category. Most people fudge their heights, so a legit 6'6 to many will look even taller, and it gets more so every inch past. Like 99% of guys who claim 6' are more like 5'10 which makes me look 6'10-11" to them. As for Comey here, I give him a strong 6'7 maybe flat with his somewhat slumped gait. I don't see him being exactly the same as me, as I appear taller next to people than he does in photos I've seen.

Average height must be VERY region based in the USA though, I’ll say that much.
cmillzz said on 24/Mar/19
My area is also very strange in that it feels as though the average height fluctuates greatly from day to day. There’s some days where I see tons of guys that are like 5’7 and under, and not many over 6 foot, but then there’s other days where I’m hard pressed to find many guys under 5’7, but many that are like 6’3, 6’2, 6’5, etc
I think what’s more striking to me is the number of tall women I see on a daily basis, though. Kinda strange in all honesty, it makes me question what the average height really is.
cmillzz said on 24/Mar/19
6’4.5-6’4.75” at a low is pretty much 6’5. I’d consider it a weak 6’5, but still 6’5 nonetheless, especially considering they’ll clear 6’5 comfortably in the morning.
Canson said on 23/Mar/19
@Cmillz: May be the area you live in. Where I live, I do see some people taller than me other than my three taller friends that I regularly see but it’s rare that I do. My friend that is an inch taller than me (Christian’s height) 6’5.25 is a proper example of a legit 6’5 or over. A lot of guys that claim 6’5 even those that don’t claim shoes are more 6’4.5-.75 from what I see. I have seen guys that are weakish 6’5 at best or even strong 6’4 that I stand next to and can’t see a difference with or can barely see it maybe a CM and they have claimed 6’5” whereas 6’4.25 is my low and I claim 6’4”

JD1996 said on 21/Mar/19
I think canson means it's much much less common than 6'3" like in a room full of 100 people you might see 2 or 3 people at 6'3" But if someone is 6'5" there might only be be one person that tall in a place with 500-600 people! It's up to people to decide if that's rare or not but it certainly depends on your perception but it's not very common is it? I'm a bit over 6'6" and have been 6'5" before and I think it's certainly not common.
Canson said on 21/Mar/19
@Cmillz: it’s not the rarest of heights but it is still rare. It’s in the 99.6 percentile. A lot of guys that claim 6’5 even those who would likely measure near it aren’t that at a low. Most are 6’4.5-.75 at a low. 6’8 is very rare though
cmillzz said on 21/Mar/19
@Canson, 6’5” is certainly very tall, but I wouldn’t call it “rare” to be honest.
cmillzz said on 21/Mar/19
6’8 isn’t that crazy of a height. It’s extremely tall, but it’s not quite in the same league as 6’9+ IMO. You could probably encounter a few thousand and eventually find someone who’s 6’8. Maybe if you’re lucky, less than that.
6’9 is arguably the start of “giant”, but I personally believe “giant” starts at 7’0”. A legit 7’0 is much more rare than even 6’9 or 6’10.

"Seriously to claim that especially young Asians "are just as tall as White Americans" is beyond ludicrous when they are barely as tall as White women."
The average white woman according to your source is 5'4.1 whereas the average Asian aged 20-39 is 5'7.8. Asian men are clearly much taller than white women.
Your source proves nothing about the height of young asians because the only "young" age group is 20-39. I was strictly speaking of college-aged asians (early twenties/late teens) for which there is no data. On college and high school campuses these days it is obvious that asian students are virtually the same height as white students due to the western diet. Plus there is a self-selection bias where many asian immigrants come from wealthy backgrounds and are therefore taller than the national average of the countries they come from.
Also just because the tallest countries are European does not mean anything about the average height of white Americans. The vast majority of white Americans do not have ancestry in these tall countries. And even if some do, they are mixed with shorter European ethnicities such as Italians.

at 6ft8 it should be less then 10.000.
hunt said on 7/Jul/17
You're just wrong. There are only actually about 1.5 million people in the USA who are 6'8 or taller. It's much less than 1% of the population.
That number 1,5million is still too high. I bet there are less than 10.000 people who are over 6ft8 in Us
Statistically at 6ft6 you are the tallest of 1000 adult males
If you are 6ft8 you are tallest of 10.000
at 6ft10 u are the tallest of 100.000
At 7 feet tallest of 1 million males.
There are 320 million people in us more than half are man, children and old man,so there are about 100 million men between 18 and 70.
men.If somebody has a precise number about how many people between 18 and 70 live in us it would be good.

As to whether 6'8" is "giant" or not - it's all semantics. What it is unarguably - is a rare height to be. Comey would measure a big 5 inches taller than I would - and I am undisputedly a tall guy out in public. I only know a couple of people who are definitely taller than he is.
Liberty183.3 said on 8/Jun/17
"Tall" and "Giant" are subjective. No one cares what the definition is. James Comey, as far as Caucasian Males go, is, statistically speaking, well above average height. His claim of 6'8'' makes sense. Nothing above 6'9'', and nothing below 6'7''.
Chris said on 8/Jun/17
In regards to the below debate, 6'3 is very tall. I have a friend who is 6'3 and he is nearly always the tallest person in a room. There seriously aren't many people in the world who are over 6'3. It's a lot rarer than you think.
I'd say "insanely tall" starts at 6'6. You'll know that if you know anyone who is that tall. They look like absolute giants compared to average sized people. Even if you're 6'1 you'll look tiny compared to someone who is 6'6
So yeah, being 6'8 is "giant". Without a doubt. Look at Lebron James when he's stood next to a normal sized person!
What you need to realize is that Steph Curry, in the real world, is absolutely huge. Not just in height, but in weight and overall size. 6'3/190 pounds is a big guy. Most men are 5'10/170 pounds. So when a guy is 6'8 and 280 that's really really big.
As I said, just look at Lebron James or The Undertaker stood next to a 5'10 inch guy! The difference is huge!
Aza said on 30/May/17

Tunman said on 19/May/17
To be fair, guys,it sounds strange to be that precise on definitions like extremely tall/giant,etc,it's not like there could ever be a convention about these figures, anyone could have his own definition
Mine would be the following
6'3 could be reasonably the beginning of very tall, someone describing a person that way is reasonable
6'4 always very tall but never exceptional
6'5-6 is something exceptional but not gigantic, however someone calling a 6'5 giant isn't that ridiculous, that's rare enough to have some people go by that description
6'7-8 I feel is more of a true giant,in fact big enough so that even people not interested in height may think "wow how tall is he?"I just remember how my father reacted when a 6'7 range guy entered the shop taking care not to hit the top of the 6'9 door.
That's my opinion but of course it's not an official one,it could easily differ according to situations, persons, mood, etc. Also keep in mind that 1" isn't automatically noticeable by everyone,so that some people an inch apart give the same impression, get the description...

6'8" is not common by any means, however at the same time it's not extremely rare or the spectacle of a height that people are making it out to be. It's only a 1 in 5000-8000 height like I said. Pretty much any medium size town of 100,000 people is going to have a handful of 6'8 guys around. I don't even get out much and sometimes I'll see a random 6'7-6'8 guy at the supermarket a few times a year. I never thought of such height as being a "giant". Yes 6'7-6'8 looks really tall IRL, but people use the term "giant" way too liberally. A 6'8 guy isn't even a full head taller than a 6-footer, a height which most consider weak tall at best.
I mean yeah 6'9 is only an inch taller than 6'8 but you have to draw the line somewhere. 6'9 is a weak giant. Just like how 6'2 is only regular tall and only an inch taller at 6'3 is considered the start of very tall. Each inch matters a lot because of how height is distributed on a bell curve, which means 6'9"+ is much more rare to see in public than 6'8. A 6'9" guy is tall enough to tower regular "very tall" guys (6'3-6'5) make them look short.
Anyway this will be my last post on this page for a while. I won't argue my point anymore, so to each his own if you want to think 6'8 is a "giant".
Billygoat said on 14/May/17
I agree with Billy (no relation) in what world is 6'8 common, and not tall? You also go on to say that 6'9 is a "true giant" lol one inch makes you go from a regular dude to a giant in this guy's world
Ian C said on 14/May/17
Interesting discussion here about who qualifies as a giant, but everybody who is six foot eight is a giant, surely. I have seen only one man of that height in my life (and I'm 65) and maybe four more who were six foot seven. Such people just seem huge.
The biggest man I have met so far was six foot four. He was just huge all over, without being in any way deformed by a rogue pituitary. He had gigantic knees and feet and hands, and his head was size of a toilet bowl. Everybody called him a giant.
Men who are slightly shorter than six foot seven but heavily or heroically built can often be giants. Clint Walker was six foot six, and was routinely called a giant. Rock Hudson was something of a giant at six foot five. Woody Strode was a giant at six foot four. Jim Brown is six foot two, but is still arguably a giant, because of the size of his head, torso and hands.

Due to enormous height he could well be over 6ft8 in the morning and less than that later. Tall people shrink more as the generally have bigger spines to compress due to gravity.

Guessing he can measure at least 6'8" 1/2 early in day and near 6'10" in a tall shoe.
