English actor, best remembered for appearing in films like Get Carter, Repulsion, The Hill, Children of the Damned and Theatre of Blood. In 1970's he had his height listed in casting directories as "5 feet 11 inches"

In his episode of The Persuaders!, I recall Hendry looked all of 5’9”. Granted he was a solid 5’10” in reality, but 5’10.5” is overly generous.

Also important to note that Alexander had roughly 2cm on Hardy Krüger in The One That Got Away.

Rory, anything within the realms of 5'11.5"-6'0" could be argued for Alexander. Tony Britton (a true six footer, potentially even 6'0.25") was seemingly taller than Alexander at around 1:02:00 below.

However, I agree 6ft is probably more believable than 5'11.5" for Alexander's peak, although I think 5'11.75" is the most likely possibility (a full six foot is often taller than I think).
Rory said on 7/Sep/23
Terence Alexander I'd probably give the full 6ft to. I remember seeing him in The Champions with 6ft0.75 William Gaunt and they looked pretty close,he wasn't much shorter. So I'd give him the benefit of the doubt and go 6ft,whilst acknowledging a possibility of 11.75. He still looked about that height at the beginning of Bergerac too,but looked 5ft11 by the end of its run.

Rob, my next request, Terence Alexander, appeared in The Internecine Project too! I thought he gave a weak 6’0” impression in his scene, as usual.

Yeah 5ft10½ is still possible actually....that last appearance of him on Patrick McNee's episode of This Is Your Life could've been posture related.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 3/Sep/23
I don't think I'd go below 5ft10...
Editor Rob
Other night I watched The Internecine Project and he did look somewhere in that 5ft 10-10.5 zone. Keenan Wynn also popped up in a scene beside Coburn and looked about 3 inches shorter.

Rob, how about 5’10” flat peak for Hendry?
Ian Bannen did have at least an inch on Hendry in The Hill. I’d agree 5’10.5” and above is out of range for Hendry. It is hard to argue over 5’10” for him.
Rory said on 5/Jun/23
In The Hill he could look as low as 5ft9.5 in that film, not far off being towered by a few of the 6ft2 guys in it. Very hard to argue him being over 5ft10 at times, he's one of those guys the more I see of him,the shorter he looks. Might well have been 5ft10 flat who claimed 5ft11 in shoes. I'd completely rule out 5ft10.5 and above anyway now.

Thanks Rob!
Yes, it would have been a dead heat height wise between Hendry and worthy add Jean-Claude Brialy; two actors barely over 5’10”. Interestingly though in just thinking of their heights, I see Brialy as the much taller man, even though Hendry was potentially closer to 5’10.5”. It must be Brialy’s extremely thin frame or occasional bulky footwear that deceives me in this regard.
Sinclair said on 13/Aug/22
Rob, can Hendry have 5’10.25”?
Editor Rob
I found some time to look a bit more and it is looking a fair mark to give him.
Sinclair said on 20/Jul/22
Potentially a strong 5’10” peak, absolutely nothing above 5’10.5” however and probably a tad under it. He looked a flat 5’10” or less, too often.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 19/Jul/22
I think over 5ft10 but not quite 5ft11
Rory said on 17/Jul/22
Hendry had definitely lost height by 1984. His alcoholism and poor health was in full swing and you can tell by looking at him he'd lost height. I think 5ft10.5 peak is fair and probably 5ft9.5 by then. Macnee I think was 11.5 -11.75 prime and probably 11.25-11.5 then aged 62.

Rob, are you sure about this?

Go to around the 8:30 mark and you'll notice Ian is several inches below Patrick MacNee (by this point arguably had lost a little). He was only 53 here, died a few months later. Looks nowhere 5ft11, not sure if his health problems caused him to lose some height. Looked terrible anyway, the long-term ramifications of alcoholism on full display
Click Here but then next to Michael Caine does look close to 5ft11 and he's leaning against the rail
Editor Rob
Can look 5ft 9 range there, maybe he really was 5ft 10 at most.
Sinclair said on 8/Aug/20
In The Hill, even with superb posture, Hendry just doesn’t seem anything over 5’10.5” in my eyes. In an episode of The Persuaders! I can barely see Hendry edging out 5’9” Tony Curtis!
Rory said on 18/Aug/19
Rob, how tall do you think Hendry looks next to Moore here at 8.01 min ?

Editor Rob
maybe at most 5ft 10.5 there.

I have just seen him advertised in a film from 1964 called 'This Is My Street', showing on Talking Pictures, a channel which specialises in old films.
I KNEW I remembered Ian's name from recently!

Good addition - a well kent face from 60s and 70s television.
He was the original main character in The Avengers, prior to Steed and a swathe of lovely ladies taking over, and was also in the first episode of The Sweeney,
And all of 5' 9" I would have thought.
Tall Sam said on 25/Jul/19
Good addition, weak 5'11" looks about right.
Miss Sandy Cowell said on 24/Jul/19
Oh YES! Ian was in so many great classical films of yesterday, including Polanski's 'Repulsion'. What an excellent addition he is. I'm delighted to see his face grace Celebheights! 😁👍
5ft10.75.
Rory said on 23/Jul/19
Very talented actor in his prime though I think perhaps 5ft10.5 is a better fit than near 5ft11.
