Rob, would you agree with 5’9.5” peak for Mario Adorf?
I thought Bannen had close to two inches on Adorf in Station Six Sahara.

Definitely didn't look over 5ft11 in Sweeney film. Arguably didn't have more than 3 inches on Barry Foster and looked around an inch shorter than Michael Latimer who I always felt looked weak six foot.

Rob, why the downgrade from 5’11.25” to 5’11”?
Editor Rob
From seeing a bit more of him in different things, I decided about 5ft 11, like his claim.

He seems 6ft.

Rob, you were right and I was wrong, Bannen’s self-listing proves it, I made a miscalculation. Bannen must have been more 5’11” than 6’0” range at peak. What you’ve got him on is perfect here. Funny how Ian Hendry claimed 5’11” too! A downgrade is probably needed for Hendry then?
Editor Rob
A strong 5ft 11 does seem to suit him.

Rob, you should add Tinker Tailor Solider Spy to his CV. Seeing him now in Gorky Park I would say 5'11 compared to William Hurt and Lee Marvin, both solid 6'2 guys. Alec Guinness must have been less than 5'8 by the time he did Tinker Tailor because Bannen really towers over him in that classic television film.
Editor Rob
I went back to a 1970's spotlight directory and in fact Bannen did have
5 feet 11 listed as his height!

At my extreme low, my height twin on this site.

He really looked close to 6'1 in Tinker Tailor beside Guinness. I would say a pretty strong 6.

Cannot believe this is the same dude who played The Leper in Braveheart

Good measure, he's listed as 5'11.5 on IMBD, 1/4 of an increase, I think we can agree that for a celebrity it's pretty good.
@sinclair
Nothing unusual, a solid 5'11 can look like 6'0, because if he's 5'11.25 nothing prevents him from actually being around 5'11.5 in some shots.

Well one of 3 possible visitors on this page updated Ian from 6ft to 5ft 11.5 the other day 😀
Sinclair said on 29/Mar/22
Rob, are you sure that Bannen was not a tad taller than currently listed?
I would have thought more 6ft than 5’11”. Having watched The Hill again, 6’2” Harry Andrews only had two inches on Bannen or maybe a touch more. Thus, I can now see the 6’1” listing for Bannen as definitely too high but he did have at least an inch on 5’10.5” Ian Hendry in The Hill, I thought. William Hurt also had Bannen by no more than 2.5 inches in Gorky Park, I thought. The lowest I could therefore put peak Bannen at is 5’11.5”. Anywhere from 5’11.5”-6’0” peak is arguable.
Editor Rob
I did watch some clips of him, including Gorky and thought overall strong 5ft 11 was more believable than 6ft.

Oh, I remember Doomwatch - good programme! My Mum liked Doctor Finlay, but it bored me rigid, so I don’t recall Ian from that.
He gets 5ft11.25.
