In recent years I still feel roughly 5ft 6. Of course there seems a greater chance of a bit over it than under it.

@Editor Rob,

Why only a wee bit over 5’6”?

I think 169cm is the best fit IMO, more like the 5’6.5-6.75” range than the 5’6-6.25”.
He didn’t really look that short, especially w/ Keanu. After watching 47 Ronin, I was surprised to see he was this short!
BTW his frame reminds me of my Uncle (who claims 5’8, but my mom describes him as 5’7” & my dad described him at a whopping nearly 5’10” once!) is a Weaker 5’7” @best too.

What do u think Rob?
Editor Rob
I might decide on the 169cm, when I look at him again.

Solid 169-70cm range, Not below it!

What do u think Rob?
Editor Rob
I can see over 5ft 6, a question of whether 6.5 looks best...it may be the best fit with others...5ft 7 would be too high.

He don't look short for japanese men especially at 60 now for his generation jap's male average height were likely 5'4 and bit up. Hiroyuki look alot like a solid 168cm.

Very refreshing to see a short actor not wearing weird looking elevator shoes.

I bought he’s taller than this ! But anyway 5’6.25” at 168.5 cm

Looks about right. 167 to 168.

CJ - he looks 5' 7" to 5' 8" because he's wearing shoes with some lift added into it.
Cj said on 12/Jul/17
Stood next to him at a uk comicon he is around 5 ft 7 to 8 inches

Any chance you can add his 47 Ronin co-star Tadanobu Asano? He's a hard one to pin down as his footwear is all over the place, I've seen pictures of him edging out Taylor Kitsch and others where he has barely 3 inches on Hiroyuki.

He is often listed at 179cm but I would guess he's a little under that, maybe 177?

Looks 5 ft 6 inches (168 cm) tall in just about every film I have seen him in...sometimes, Rob, you underestimate a celeb's height...and on v rare occasions, you overestimate someone's height...but I believe with Sanada, you have got it spot on...and, yes, I agree with S.J.H - 6 ft 0.5 to 6 ft 1 inch Keanu was much (6 to 7 inches) taller than him in 47 Ronin.

Gheist, yeah I think this site is definitely underestimating his height. He is definitely no shorter than 5'7. Rob, you need to upgrade this one for sure. Maybe he put him in as 5'6 just because he is asian I don't know, all I know is Japanese, like Koreans, are not as short compared to other Asians, average Japanese male is about 5'8 much taller than 5'4 Vietnamese but not as tall as Koreans which average at 5'9
Gheist said on 23/Nov/14
When seeing him in movies like The Last Samurai i thought he was at least 173-175cm range, im like a bit dissapointed, maybe its his posture.
Aman said on 9/Oct/14
Nah, I would put him closer to 5'7
ArjunaKorale said on 16/Jul/14
A great Japanese actor - in all of his movies, looks every bit the 168 cm / 5 ft 6 rating that you have given him. You don't necessarily need to have height to be an action star.

Sanada is below average for younger in Japan(172.1cm-5'7.8")
Average for Entire population(for 20+ avg is 168.6cm-5'6.4")

And 5'8.2"for younger(18-30 years):

According to new stats avg height in S. Korea is 5'8.6"-174.2cm (20-30 years)

Not really. Maybe for Asians in Asia, ages 50 and older. Heck, even South Korea's average male height is 5'9''. The ones in America with better nutrition, mostly more protein in their diet are taller.

Well, I'm half canadian half japanese and I'm only 168 cm, like Sanada. And I've always lived in Canada and had a good diet. I guess I wasn't lucky about my height. I've noticed that most half japanese guys are very tall, like 190 cm. Probably because japanese woman who come in North America are tall by japanese standards and they want to marry a tall man. So these guys' parents are usually both tall.

Asians in their native country i think are a bit smaller than most Asians who were raised up in a Foreign country such as Canada. Simply because Asians where I am from are of + 176cm which is average.

There is a difference of only one inch in height between Sanada and Cruise, so he could easily look just as tall from certain angles. Hiroyuki also happens to be one of those few actors who can hold his own (as far as physical presense) despite being a shorter guy.
Dave said on 8/Oct/07
i thought he was fantastic is last sammurai also.... im a big fan of his. And also, in that movie he looked every bit as tall as tom cruise! rob?

thats the guy who played jackie chans brother right? anyways great movie!!!
Anonymous said on 24/Aug/07
If you check closely, Jackie's actually looking down on him a little. And this height would make sense since he's slightly shorter than Cruise in The Last Samurai.
Brah said on 15/Aug/07
I thought he and Jackie looked about the same height in Rush Hour 3? Must have been the camera angles.
