I mean see 90:30 it's ridiculous, she looks like near 6ft in comparison. Surely it must be a mistake Dorothy McGuire only being 5'4.5", Nearer 5'7 surely?
Arch Stanton said on 26/Aug/13
Rob see 84 minutes. Click Here How does a 5'4.5" lady look that tall next to a 6'3 guy? It isn't a box trick either, the height difference is the same when they're walking along side by side and you can see there isn't any trickery.
Arch Stanton said on 26/Aug/13
Strange, in Gentleman's Agreement Dorothy McGuire listed at 5'4.5" comes within 5 inches of Peck's height in heels.
Arch Stanton said on 23/Aug/13
He can look anything from 6'2.5"-6'4". Really long legged slim guy, looks easily 6'3" in To Kill a Mockingbird.
Arch Stanton said on 29/Jul/13
Rob have you seen Roman Holiday? Such a charming film, love it, Audrey Hepburn is so cute in it!! I'd say it is the best Peck film I've seen to date followed by the Flannel Suit. I'd rank both as among the best films I've ever seen. In the film Peck is stood in line with a load of press people and he's easily the tallest guy there, taller than the bearded guy in it who is around 5'11" I think and he looked head and shoulders above many of the guys in the line and looked easily 6'3". He could actually look like a 6'4" guy in some of the scenes, I think it was obvius he was over 6'2" anyway...
Editor Rob
not for so long that I can remember much of it.
Arch Stanton said on 28/Jul/13
He really didn't look 6'3" in Night People. Incredibly boring film too! 12 O Clock high was really boring too. Both films are set in a military base with the same scene pretty much and endless dialogue. Man in the Grey Flannel Suit however was terrific from the 50s period and I'd rank that as one of the best films I've ever seen.

Next to Charlton Heston in The Big Country, the two guys are pretty close in height. My dad thought Peck looked a smidge taller but I thought Heston could look a little lankier, with a leaner frame than the blocky-shouldered Peck. Peck still looked about an inch taller than 6'2" David Warner in The Omen, though he had better posture despite being 25 years older than Warner.
Arch Stanton said on 3/Jul/13
Yes, I think 184-5 for Lee peak.
Sam said on 2/May/13
A relatively young Bernard Lee looked like a strong six footer next to 6'2" Joseph Cotten (maybe not even 2 inches difference) in The Third Man.
Arch Stanton said on 1/May/13
Yeah I think 6ft range was his peak, more 5'11" later on. I could buy 184cm next to Peck but I doubt he was ever a full 6'1".
Arch Stanton said on 30/Apr/13
1 hr 35 near the end of the film Bernard Lee looks 6 ft range I think in comparison. 184-85 is possible I think. Can you remember how he faired next to Roger Moore? There is a scene in Live and Let Die at the beginning when Moore makes coffee but can't remember how he looked in comparison. I'd guess he looked a bit shorter than Moore.
Editor Rob
Lee I think looked a few inches shorter than Moore, although he was older by then.
Arch Stanton said on 30/Apr/13
Urgh height is a strange thing pause at 30:23 and Bernard Lee has suddenly grown 3 inches and looks 6'2! Maybe he was 6'1" after all, I can't remember how he looked next to Roger Moore in Bond.

Watching Purple Plain right now. Peck does look a genuine full 6'3". How tall is Bernard Lee Rob? I see 185cm for him on the web which was surely a joke, he looks similar to Niven in height, more 5'11" range. Pause at 18:59 for instance.
Arch Stanton said on 28/Apr/13
The difference between Niven and Peck is about 3 inches I think, Niven I think looked near 6' but 5'11.5" I think could be a good guess for him. Maybe a little downgrade for Peck to 190?
Arch Stanton said on 28/Apr/13
Yeah I think 6'2.5-6'3" could have been nearer what he was. If he was 6'2.5" then Gotell could have been 6'2" flat, although he did look a bit more than inch taller than Quayle in Ice Cold in Alex. 6'3.5"-6'4" as Philippe says is just a little exaggerrated. I'll watch a few more of his movies tomorrow I think. Unlike Gary Cooper who I get a solid 6'3" impression of, if anybody could have been 6'3.5" it was him but my impression of Peck is somewhere around 190 but I'm not sure he was a solid 6'3" guy barefoot.

Pause at 57:58. Dean Jagger was listed at 6'2". They look the same height, if anything Jagger a whisker taller. Strange.
Editor Rob
peck has been called 6ft 2, 3 and 2.5...all back in 40's-50's, maybe he was one of those guys who was in between the 2.

I think that Peck was near 6'4 at his peak: slightly taller than 6'3 Heston in The big country; 2.5 to 3 inches taller than 6'1 Mitchum(Cape fear) and than 6'1 Moore(The sea wolwes);near 4 inches taller than his 6' friend David Niven (The guns of Navarone,The sea Wolves...);1 inch taller than 6'2.5 Matthau in Mirage ; etc...Therefore, Gregory Peck looks between 6'3.5 and 6'4 in most of his films, in spite of the official 6'3 of his biographies.

4 inches on Niven? 3 at the very most. Doesn't look over 6'3" to me. His proportions and face/hair are very similar to Goran Visnjic though who is 6'4", they have the same sort of face shape and hair. Strangely he looked the same height if not a tad shorter than Dean Jagger in Twelve of Clock High and he was listed at 6'2". But no way did Peck have 4 inches on David Niven.
Copnovelist195 said on 9/Nov/12
I think Peck was a solid 6ft3 at his peak. He appeared to be identical in height to 6ft3 Heston in The Big Country and cetainly shorter than 6ft6 Chuck Connors. In the Sea Wolves (1980) he is distinctly taller than Roger Moore, possibly by 3 inches.

Rob could Peck have had a slight edge on Heston height wise?
Editor Rob
it's a possibility, for every guy who says 6ft 3, a good amount might be a fraction shy, not many would say 6ft 2 3/4's or whatever.
jake, 1.82 m said on 22/Sep/11
He was 6ft3 for sure and is still one of my favourite actors. He had 2 inches on Mitchum in Cape Fear (1962).

Sam said on 21/Apr/11
He looks a solid 6'3" next to Charlton Heston, Sidney Poitier and Robert Mitchum (whom he had at least 2 inches on in Cape Fear). Another thing of note is his broad shoulders, Heston looked thin in comparison to me.

I don't think he was 6'3.5 peak. He was a solid 6'3.

I think he was 6'2 when he got older. I've seen him in a video next to Bill Clinton and they're about the same height.
Shadow2 said on 10/Nov/10
The one agreed reference for all celebrity heights is Gregory Peck at precisely 6'3" (never 6'2" or 6'4"). Thats why it was interesting to see him in a long scene in "Captain Newman MD" with apparently slightly taller Dick Sargent (the No2 Darrin in "Bewitched"). It was only when they face each other to say goodbye that Mr Peck finally stretches to his full height and just matches Sargent "eye to eye". It was a very close call!

High shoulders can often make somebody look taller than actually are. Me for example, I am only 5,9 1/2" yet some people think I am 5,10" or 5,11" because of high shoulders.

Gonzalo, Chuck Connors was taller than 6-5 and everyone look shorter than their listed height beside him. And yep, in most of Peck`s films he looked at least 6-3.
Gonzalo said on 4/Sep/08
I always thought Peck was 1`91 but it is true he looked clearly shorter than Chuck Connors who was listed 1`96 when he played baseball and basketball in the Celtics. Maybe Peck was shorter than 1`91 and Rob was right when he had Peck at 1`89 at first. But it is true he looks taller than 1`89 to me
adam said on 2/Sep/08
Well I believe you. If he really was at least 2 inches shorter (and posture, footwear and other things were equal) I`d say Price was a solid 6-5. Not only 6-4. That`s because Peck has always looked no less than 6-3 and usually even more.

Price 6-5 and Peck 6-3.
Frank2 said on 1/Sep/08
Yes, Peck was shorter than Price by at least two inches in KEYS TO THE KINGDOM. Rent the film and check it out or if you get the Fox Movie Channel, they run it from time to time. Price was very tall and slendor. I saw him a few of times, starting in the 1960s and then during the time he made his last film which was EDWARD SCISSORHANDS. Earlier he looked 6'4" and later he was stooped so It was obvious age had taken its toll.
adam said on 1/Sep/08
He said 183cm really? Well that
adam said on 1/Sep/08
Yes, he had broad shoulders and I heard that he was physically very strong. At 6-3 with broad shoulders and big hands I`d say he could have been easily a 200-pounder. Robert Mitchum was 6-1 and 200 pounds. Peck looked clearly taller and more massive in Cape Fear. I find it very hard to believe that the man was only around 190 by then. Im 6-2 and weigh about 195 and Im really pretty slender! I dont have long limbs though, so I have a long torso and short legs so that might explain something.. All in all, in my opinion Peck always looked a tall, big man.
Frank2 said on 31/Aug/08
Peck was thin back when he started acting in the 1940s. Back then he did weigh about 170 lbs. But he had broad shoulders. As he aged, he put on more weight, but unlike so many men where it all goes into the gut, he filled out all over. By the 1960s he probably weighed about 185 to 195 lbs.
Frank2 said on 19/Aug/08

Yes, a solid 6-3.

Peck: 6-3 to 6-3

Solid 6' 3", I'm looking at a photo with him now with my father. Real deal Hollywood legend.
Frank2 said on 18/Aug/08
Peck was most likely 6'3" although one biography lists him at 6'2". All I'm saying is in the film KEYS TO THE KINGDOM he's shorter by at least two inches than Vincent Price. I saw Price several times and he always looked to be 6'4".
adam said on 17/Aug/08
Peck was sure as hell a solid 6-3, Frank. Watch Cape Fear. Peck looks at least 2 inches taller than 6-1 Mitchum. He looks very tall in all of his movies. At least 6-3.

Price could have been more than 6-4. He could have been as tall as 6-5. Just saw a movie called "Haunted Palace". In that movie he looked clearly, very clearly taller than the 6-2 Lon Chaney Jr. No way there`s just 2 inches.

So I`d say that Peck was 6-3 to 6-3
Frank2 said on 8/Aug/08
I'm watching KEYS TO THE KINGDOM and Peck is a good two inches shorter than 6'4" Vincent Price. I'm now beginning to wonder if Peck wasn't 6'2". Or that Price was taller than 6'4". In THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, Charlton Heston was also two inches shorter than Price and like Peck, Heston's height was listed at 6'3".

in The Omen he was already a bit older (i think around 50+?), looked an easy 6'4 in shoes, i do agree he lost a lot of height once he reached 60+ and kept losing till the end.

easy 6'3 younger age, about 6'1.5 before he died imo.
adam said on 27/Jun/08
Well I doubt that John Wayne was 6-4. I`d believe Peck was a legit 6-3 and Wayne about the same height or maybe a bit less.
philippe said on 1/Jun/08
Perhaps Gregory Peck lost a part of his height as he aged, but at his peak he looks between 6'3.5" and 6'4".In a photo of 1969,he stands in front of President Lyndon B.Jonhson(6'3.5")and has the same height(when receiving the medal of freedom). In a photo of 1949 he looks the same height than 6'4" John Wayne(in a stage production for charity "what price glory" in Hollywood). And in several films(The guns of Navarone,The sea wolves)and photos he looks about 4 inches taller than his "6 feet" friend David Niven.
clark said on 8/Jan/08
Gregory Peck lost a lot of his height as he aged. Time magazine had a pic with him and Jimmy Smits, who is about 6'4, but towered over Peck. No human being can keep their original height when they are in the twilight years. Gregory Peck was of Irish decent, but he was also 1/4 Turkish. And a fabulous human being and actor.

Of course! Thanks to "reason" for lighting wise minds as philippe's, Fox's, Josh's and, let's be generous (Ilike him) Viper!
Gregory was of that sort of great and tall actors we miss currently so much!
He was brilliant, very clever and cultured! A Lord in a word; I miss them: Grant, Wayne, Cooper, Bogart, Mitchum, Cagney, Gable Douglas...too long list for those "yesteday", too short for those of today! Tom Welling is the for me, the only one having that "glint" and that presence but I doubt he ever become a star, a "movie star". Peck was one and was tall: not less than 6'3 I repeat.
philippe said on 7/Jul/07
I agree with Patrick and Josh:Peck looks near 6'4" at his peak:looking at the famous 1956 movie "Moby Dick"(Peck was just 40 years old), we see Peck standing beside character actor Friedrich Ledebur playing "Queequeg"(89th. mn) ,who we know earlier in the film he is 6'7"(see the 72nd. minute);Peck looks only between 2.5 or 3 inches shorter than the very tall Ledebur. So,Peck at his peak was actually 6'4".sure!

I ALWAYS saw him as being MINIMUM 6'3 and thought long he was 6'4; The fact is he had high shoulders what inclines to see him taller, maybe...Would tower over almost every other actor and looked taller, if my memory serves me right, than Chuck Heston; If he ever was 6'2 , that was after the 70ies; In th eOmen, he still is very tall; remember!

Pat said on 24/Feb/07
I walked past Gregory Peck in a hallway at Caesar's Palace about thirty years ago. He seemed very small to me. I was surprised. Now I am surprised to find that he was 6'3". I think this shows how deceiving all of this sort of thing can be. During the OJ trial I was surprised when he was refered to as big. I had seen him on streets of San Francisco and he had always seemed small. Speaking of the "Streets of Sanfrancisco" - Michael Douglas seemed like a child.

Conversely I shook Nixon's hand when I was in high school. I remember looking up at him. In fact I was probably at least three inches taller than him even then.

If I went by my own eye witness testimony I would believe that Peck (and OJ) were little guys and Nixon was a big guy. Fortunately I have this site to straighten me out.

I confirm that Peck looks more than 6'3",certainly near 6'4" at his peak.Indeed,in "The big country" he looks one inch taller than 6'3" Heston(especially in the second half of the film);in "The guns of Navarone" he looks 2'5" inch taller than 6'1.5"Quinn and much taller than 6'Niven;in "Cape fear" he looks more than 2 inches than 6'1.5"Mitchum;in "The sea wolves" he looks near 3 inches taller than 6'1"Moore and much taller than 6'Niven and 5.11 Mc Nee.Therefore ,the actual height of Gregory Peck at his peak was near 6'4" rather than 6'3".

Peck was 6'2.5" to 6'3". Here are a few photos supporting this premise:
The first is with the 6'3" Sidney Poitier, where they look exactly the same height.

The next two are with the 6'1.5" Brock Peters: one recent and one from the '60s. In both photos Peck towers over Peters.
http://www.homevideos.com/freezeframes918/mockingbird190.jpeg

I could see why his height is listed as 6'2, which is accuratly correct. Cause in almost all of his movies he weares lifts, even look in Moby Dick. But with his shoes he probably is close to 6'3. But without them, he's just on 6'2.
