The original Exorcist is famous for terrifying the life out of people, but Exorcist III, with its description of the murder of the 12-year-old boy, is equally shocking. That poor lad…..

I watched George’s powerful performance in Exorcist 3 last night, and observed how his half-asleep daughter, Julie, came downstairs to the fridge! 😂👍🏼 She kissed her Dad goodnight and it struck me that George will have made a lovely father.

Then I checked online to see for myself. He had SEVEN children - FANTASTIQUE!

George looks so STRONG in ‘Firestarter’ and he’s a very adapt killing machine. No wonder I didn’t like him to start with, and he cons little Drew Barrymore’s Charlene appallingly.

⭐️ When you think about it, height loss in the 19th century at 50 wouldn’t have been unheard of at all as people were so badly off. Poor children had to ‘earn their keep’ by slaving away in workhouses - and then they only received a waterless porridge mixture to eat, with naff all protein. Not exactly a good start to their little lives…..

I thought last night that it might be interesting to find out how old the Dickensian Scrooge was meant to be, so I had a look today. He was approximately 50 years old, and in the 19th century, that was not as young as it is today!

I take that RIGHT BACK; George can indeed look scared in ‘A Christmas Carol’, as indeed would I if I saw the spirits Scrooge saw!

I always found the ghost of Jacob Marley to be the most frightening, both as described in the novel and in the film. Seeing a spook on one’s door knocker isn’t my idea of fun, and then it gets worse, as he appears burdened by hefty chains, and tells his former business partner that he doesn’t want him to suffer the same fate.

No matter what George endures in his scary films, eg ‘Exorcist 3’ and ‘The Changeling’, he never looks totally frightened. He can look alarmed, sure, but he gives the presence of someone you’d like to have around in a dodgy situation - a real tower of strength! As for the description ‘tower’, I’m watching my copy of ‘The Changeling’ and I have only seen one guy who’s taller than he is.

For someone born he his era, George was most certainly way above average.

I’d like to request a page for Ed Flanders. He’s considerably shorter than George in Exorcist 3 - I’d say by 4-4.5 inches, and looked kind of fragile.

He played Father Dyer, and was hilarious! He said, possibly to Father Morning regarding a member of his flock, “Jesus loves you; everyone else thinks you’re an @sshole!” 🤣

When George described the carp-in-the-bath story to Father Dyer, he’s smirking all over his face! George and Ed are like a comedy act together. Ed also starred in Salem’s Lot and plenty more besides.

Back in January 2017, I wrote a rather negative comment on George, as I’d judged him upon reading that he was prone to drunken rages. I can’t see this having been the case while he was working and besides, he isn’t here to defend himself anymore.

I’ve never seen him giving a poor performance, only intense and brilliant ones. Last night, I caught the end of The Changeling, in which he played a grieving family man. He is a righteous fellow, who is trying to get to the bottom of a child murder committed some 70 years previously, and his persistence pays off.

I most certainly like George now!

I’m watching George in The Changeling, a film which Jim recommended to me. I bought him a copy in a store which sells rare and dated films though to date, I’ve seen it just the once. When I saw that it was showing on the Talking Pictures channel, I thought that I must see it again.

After a tragic start, George moves into a house which a lady has warned him about, saying that it doesn’t want anybody to live there.

And so starts the plot….

I can see myself enjoying this more the second time around!

So far, I haven’t seen anyone taller than George. I give him a strong 6ft, in this case adding a quarter inch.

I loved George as Ebenezer Scrooge in 'A Christmas Carol', from 1984.

When the spirits have transformed him, it's a pleasure to see how he enjoys being a kind, humane person, getting high on being a decent man - before it's too late. What a deep and meaningful story Dickens wrote, with parabolic qualities that we can learn from to this day.

⭐ I adore the Christmas advert with a representation of Scrooge called EBANANA Scrooge!

This fantastic actor was also in Stephen King's 'Firestarter'. I think it was his falseness to the girl (Drew Barrymore) that contributed to my original dislike for him, not to mention reading about his boozing and bad temper, but my word, that temper comes in very handy in 'Exorcist III'!

I love the way George's William Kinderman relates to Father Dyer the story of smelling bad because his mother-in-law has a huge carp swimming about in his bath, due to the fact that ready-bought ones are iffy!

My maternal grandmother used to do the very same thing at Christmas, and my Mum hated it!

Let's change the site to "eveningheights.com" No way was he a bare 6' in his prime except perhaps after a long day of acting. He didn't take the best care of his health and by the Changelling had already lost height most likely. You can't trust an interview, he certainly was not skinny in 1960, maybe he was in high school or something :D He was clearly a towering presence in the Hustler which was filmed about that time and maybe by 2020s American standards he would be "skinny", but things are pretty skewed in Burgerland.

I think George gave a supreme and powerful performance in 'Exorcist III', taking over from the role of Lee J Cobb in the first Exorcist movie, as Lieutenant Kinderman. He was even likeable, and I didn't blame him one iota for punching Patient X (played by Jason Miller who was possessed by the evil Gemini killer's spirit, acted by Brad Dourif) when he described in vivid detail the murders of children.

No, this movie doesn't disappoint and opens up the whole Exorcist plot, but not nearly so well as the following one 'Exorcist - The Beginning', starring Stellan Skarsgard. For my money, it's one of George's greatest movies, but that's probably because I'm supporting what he's doing and I like him for that! His performance in 'Firestarter' was darn good too, but he was conniving and twisted - though he acted the part fantastically.

George was one of those men whose large build could make him look actually taller. I'm giving him a strong 6ft, which means I'm popping on an extra quarter-inch.

George makes a good Scrooge in 'A Christmas Carol'. If he's all of six foot, how tall is the Ghost of Christmas Past? He must be at least 6ft6.*

Nearly 4 years ago, I gave him 5ft11, but having recently seen 'Firestarter', I believe he was the full 6ft.

Ah! The spirit is showing him how his meanness has taken its toll on Bob Cratchet and his family, yet they're happy, aside from the fact that Tiny Tim is so ill.

The Ghost of Christmas Past is played by Michael Carter, who was in his 30s at the time, and I found his height to be 6ft4. I think he might have been wearing build ups for the part.

I could believe 6'1" on Scott. I just finished watching "A Christmas Carol" (1984) and there is a shot where Scott and David Warner (Bob Cratchit) are facing each other equidistant from the camera. Warner's hair was in the way but it looked no more than a one inch difference to me. Warner is listed as being 6'2" at peak.

Old comment I know, but Rampage you are right about people growing in their 20s. I recently read a study which found that peoples' sitting height increases by 14mm (0.55in) after skeletal maturity which I found very interesting because most people just assume you're completely done growing at 17-19 when in fact the spine is still growing in your early 20s even after the long bones have fused. Couple this with the fact that bone mass keeps increasing until age 30 and I'd say that if anything, a 30 year old could even measure a couple millimeters taller than they did at 21, unless they suffered a back injury or are very overweight. But yeah, no one is losing height in their early 20s that is crazy talk.

Scott was certainly not slender in 1964, when he made Dr. Strangelove. He was burly and paunchy in that one. He was also infamous for drunkenness and violent rage. If anyone came away with the impression that he was a nice man, well, Scott was a terrific actor and he was acting as he were nice.

That's a cool celeb to have had as an acquaintance. Glad to hear he was funny, maybe he saved his intensity for the film set.
I recall there's a seen in Patton where the Nazis are watching footage of Patton lead his troops and the baddies seem impressed because Patton is "more than six feet tall" or something to that effect.
A not very good comparison shot w/ Karl Malden, who was a solid 6'1" IMO, here Scott is closer to the camera & looks taller. I think Malden & Scott looked similar in height in the film.

He was a great actor. Really, I don't interest how tall was he but I love his work as actor...:) For his height...I saw last night the Robert Wise movie "Hindenburg" (1975) and he was 4-5cm taller than co-star Roy Thinnes who was in prime 5'10½" (1,79 m).
