British Actor, best remembered for TV series 'As Time Goes By' and films like Mrs Brown, Tomorrow Never Dies. Listed 178cm by agency. I think he did look that height in the 1990's, but early career possibly more.

@ Rob - He most certainly was. He did comedy and serious equally well. His 'Inspector Morse' episode was on last night - what a coincidence.
He even appeared in the final 'Blackadder Goes Forth' episode - that terribly upsetting one.
Geoffrey will be sadly missed. With heartfelt sympathy and prayers to his wife and children and all other family members, not forgetting all his friends.

I would give Palmer a flat 5’11” for his peak. In an episode of The Saint, I thought Palmer did look more 5’10” than 5’11” but that may have been because of uneven ground, Palmer’s relatively relaxed posture at the time and camera angles. In an episode of Fawlty Towers, Tomorrow Never Dies and As Time Goes By, Palmer does generally pass for 5’11”.

But when Geoffrey Palmer starred in an 'Inspector Morse' episode, he was as chilling as it's possible to get!
I haven't seen the 'Bond' movie with him in or the film 'Mrs Brown'. If his performance in 'Inspector Morse' was anything to go by, he would have made a cracking 'Bond villian'!

My favourite "grumpy" old man! I could've believed he was 6 feet, and he seems to have broad enough shoulders and good posture.
I feel he's an under-recognized, and maybe even under-appreciated actor, often one of those supporting stars who make the main stars look good.
One of my favourite scenes with him was from "Butterflies" when his 2 sons (1 of whom was Nicholas Lyndhurst) said something like "You're a good guy and you're really fun - even though your face doesn't always join in!"
But my favourite of his roles was a Lionel Hardcastle in "As Time Goes By".

Yeah I know what you mean Andy I can recall some films where he looked 5'11-'6 range. 5'11" is possible in his prime but if he was listed as 178cm I'd say that's likely legit. They're unlikely to downgrade him.

Spot on I'd say, he was roughly the same height accounting for footwear as that 5'10 actress who played the elderly woman with hearing problems in Fawlty Towers, He looked quite short next to John Cleese, but so would most people..

5'10" is definitely wrong. In Reginald Perrin in the 1970's he looked about 3 inches taller than Leonard Rossiter who I'd put at 5'9.5". I think an even 6'0 would be right

He looks 5'11 to me in stuff he's been in, such as Fawlty Towers where he played the doctor who checks out the dead guy in 'the kipper and the corpse' xD he looked about 5'11 - 6'0 during the 70s (when this was made)
